During our PRAY FORTY experience, we are committed as a

congregation to growing closer to God our Father, walking closer to Christ our Brother, and paying closer attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit (who’s been compared by some in the Christian tradition to a wise and helpful Mother). In this passage from Max Lucado’s Inspirational Reader, he reminds us that your prayers and mine rise to God as a sweet, pleasing offering:

Even if you stammer or stumble, even if what you have to say impresses no one, it impresses God—and he

listens. He listens to the painful plea of the elderly in the rest home. He listens to the gruff confession of the death-row inmate. When the alcoholic begs for mercy, when

the spouse seeks guidance, when the businessman steps off the street into the chapel, God listens.

Intently. Carefully. The prayers are honored as precious jewels. Purified and empowered, the words rise in a delightful fragrance to our Lord...Your words do not

God listens. And God delights in our offerings.

I remember as a child when I finally received my mother’s permission to cook breakfast like I’d seen her do a thousand times. I was an early riser and would muddle and mess in the kitchen, burning toast and under-cooking eggs, making bacon that was limp and lifeless, and brewing coffee that was either thick as tar or thin as thread. My parents would roll over in bed and smile as I came shoving through their door with my inedible creations. Mom would blink good-naturedly and take sips of my awful brew. Dad would sit up bravely and ingest mouth-fulls of my runny eggs. Both of my parents accepted my gifts as the offering of love they were.

Praying, reading his word, and showing love and caring to all the people in my life were a few thoughts I had. How can you be faithful?

I’m a little more experienced now, and I still get up early and attempt nearly every morning to offer gifts that will please the Parent who loves me--in prayer. Some mornings, my prayer efforts may seem as shapeless and unappealing as undercooked eggs. But my Parent in heaven hears me approaching, calling out what I have to offer, and God smiles. What gifts of speech or silence do you have for God today? How could you respond to God’s grace in a way that might bring a smile to God’s face?

WHY DO WE SING? Some of you may remember the King Family who had their own variety show on TV in the 1960s. The family included around 40 members ranging in age from 7 months to 78 years. They were talented and their show was popular and entertaining. I grew up in a family like that. My mother had 13 siblings who in turn produced numer-ous progeny. In other words, we are a large brood. The Stepp family has always been known for good cooking and good music. We try to have a reunion every June and after enjoying a table full of gastronomic delights, the guitars come out of the cases and we sing for literally hours on end. Now you know why I delight in ‘Naner Puddin’ and all kinds of music. With such a heritage I was excited when I had the opportunity to study piano and voice. I didn’t have to be asked to practice then. I was most satisfied to play for hours for my own enjoyment. Oswald Chambers wrote, “The one aim of the call of God is the satisfaction of God, not a call to do something for Him.” In other words, it is easier to be more devoted to our service to God than to God Himself. But service without devotion lacks fire and pas-sion. It is like playing the piano because your mom makes you practice, not because you delight to play. Augustine wrote in his Confessions, “Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee”. He understood passion; a passion that is fed and fulfilled only by the presence of God. Worship is a weekly family reunion where we express our passion for the presence of God. He is our delight, and we are deeply satisfied in Him. That is why we sing. Grace, Terry Lowe

MUSIC MINISTRIES OPPORTUNITIES We are looking for artists who have hearts for God and will use their gifting in the Min-istry of Music and Worship. Consider these opportunities. PRAISE TEAM: Our Praise Team provides leadership in the 8:45 a.m. modern Wor-ship Service each Sunday. It is comprised of church members and regular attendees age sixteen and up. The Team meets for rehearsal each Tuesday evening at 7:00. Rehearsal preparation is required for participation. An audition is required for membership. CHANCEL CHOIR: Our Chancel Choir provides leadership in the 11:15 a.m. classic Worship Service each Sunday. It is comprised of Church members and regular at-tendees age sixteen and up. The Choir meets for rehearsal each Wednesday evening at 7:00. Rehearsal preparation is required for participation. The Choir is open for mem-bership. HANDBELL CHOIR: Our Handbell Choir provides seasonal leadership for worship and other events. It is comprised of Church members and regular attendees age fourteen and up. Rehearsal preparation is required for participation. No experience is necessary but it is helpful if there is some basic ability to read music. Rehearsal schedule is yet to be determined. ORCHESTRA: What’s this? We have an orchestra? Well not yet, but we would like to! We are currently recruiting instrumentalists to begin an orchestra to provide leader-ship in the 11:15 a.m. classic Worship Service. Membership will be open to church members and regular attendees age fourteen and up. Rehearsal preparation will be re-quired for participation. Rehearsal schedule is yet to be determined. Save the Date for The Victorian Tea: Saturday, April 28

We are inviting ladies of all ages to join us for our 3rd annual Victorian Tea on

Saturday, April 28 from 3:00-4:30. Come enjoy an elegant afternoon with

tempting tea sandwiches, scones, delicious desserts,

and games with prizes. Hats and gloves are

optional, but fun!

Treat your favorite mother, daughter, granddaughter

or friend. Simply purchase a ticket in the narthex

and bring your own teacup! Tickets are $10 for

adults and $5 for ages 3-8. All proceeds will benefit

St. Andrews Parish UMC's Food Pantry and Crisis

Ministry meals.

Donations will also be gratefully received. Tickets may be purchased before

and after each church service beginning in April.

United Methodist Women

SAPUMW has been very active in 2012. We appreciated Pastor Chris

Barrett’s installation of the officers for 2012 during the January meetings of

the Joy and Genesis Circles. We are grateful for the support for our Soup

Sales for Super Bowl Sunday, for many individuals purchased the seven

varieties offered. District officer training then occurred on January 14, 2012,

at the North Charleston United Methodist Church. Cindy Walden, Liz

Criswell, Libby Franklin, Linda Kettrey, and Letha Henry attended the

informative day. In addition, the St. Valentine’s Supper Club was

successfully held with an excellent meal, entertainment, and attendance on

February 10. Following that, the UMW provided refreshments at the Citadel

for the John Wesley Foundation on February 13, and we are now looking

forward to providing the Lenten Luncheon at John Wesley UM Church on

March 7.

The UMW welcomes new members and encourages

ladies to join the UMW, a group of caring ladies

dedicated to serving and honoring Christ. The Joy Circle

meets the second Tuesday of the month at 10:00 am, and

the Genesis Circle meets on the second Thursday of the

month at 7:00 pm.

Family Night EVERY Month!

We kicked off 2012 with a Spaghetti

Supper in January hosted by Gladys

Bledsoe, followed by the St. Valentine’s

Day Supper Club hosted by the United

Methodist Women in February. Coming

up March 21st, the United Methodist Men

will prepare a St. Patrick’s Day dinner.

The dinners are $5 per person ($2 for

children age 6 and under) and is payable

at the door. We DO need to know how

many to expect, so please be sure to turn

in a reservation form (found in the pew

registration pads), or just email, or call

the church office with the family name

and the number attending.

New for First Sunday Fellowship

—Share: a favorite recipe, a

purchased goody, or a fruit tray! We have been enjoying the wonderful fellowship and treats on the first Sunday every month now for several years. Many of you have graciously offered to provide an item for our table. The First

Sunday Fellowship Team is asking our wonderful congregation to share a favorite recipe, purchase a baked goodie, or prepare a fruit tray. We know what fabulous bakers and entertainers we have out there! If you would like to share something, a sign up for each month of the coming year will be posted on the refrigerator in the kitchen and during the fellowship time. Items will need to be at the church by 10:00 on the morning you are signed up to participate.

I’ve been overwhelmed by the love, support and prayers from the St.

Andrews Parish family! Thank you for all you’ve done for me during

the illness and death of my father on January 28, especially for allowing

me to spend time with him and our family during his final days. Once

again you have shown yourself to be a loving, caring congregation as

you showered me with words of comfort and condolence through your

calls, emails, cards, and visits. You have been a blessing to me and my

family throughout this whole experience.

Beth Moore at Coliseum! Many of the women at St. Andrews have enjoyed the

Bible studies of Beth Moore. We now have an

opportunity to see her in person. She is scheduled to be

at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night and

Saturday morning on August 24 and 25. Reserved

seating is only available to groups of 50 or more. Groups of 50 or more also

receive a discount of $5 on the $65 tickets.

A sign up list is posted on the bulletin board outside of Carol's office. You

would need to write a check for your ticket to Linda Kettrey by March 1st.

Please ask friends from outside our church if they would like to attend, so

that we may take advantage of having a group of at least 50. For more

Christmas Jar Mission Project Anyone interested in the Christmas Jar Mission Project may pick up a jar

with instructions on the small table by the doors to the sanctuary. This is a

church-wide mission for each family to do individually at home. If you have
