Through the hard work of the CCW organization at St. Andrew’s Parish this past year, we were able to do many good works for our church, school, and community. This organization works to enrich the parish life of the women and families of St. Andrew. Through our Spring and Fall raffles and bake sales, we were able to give a monetary donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation which is a childhood Cancer Research Foundation. We also made monetary donations to the Bishop Blanchette Scholarship Fund and the 8th Grade Graduation Trip. The following monetary donations were also made: St. Andrews Blood Drive for carafes for coffee and food for the blood donors St. Andrews School for repair of school alarms and other needed repairs St. Andrew School Athletic Department to purchase needed athletic equipment New stove, new fans, electric roasting pans, and a new coffee maker for the kitchen in addition to new
tables for the Parish Hall Seven blue industrial protection pads for the support poles in the Parish Hall A monetary donation to the parish Through your continued support we can do many wonderful things for our parish, school, and community. We would like to welcome new members with new ideas, and anyone who would like to work together and support each other with our Christian values. To all the women 18 and over of the parish, please feel free to join us at our first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 19th at 6:00 PM in the Parish Hall.
Our sincere appreciation is sent to all. Without your help this worthwhile service organization could not exist.

In today’s Gospel we hear how Jesus “makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” In living the Gospel we must open our ears to hear, recognize and do our best to help those who are poor and suffering. Today, September 9th, the church recognizes the feast of Blessed Frederick Ozanam, the founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Join us as we celebrate and continue the work he began and which continues throughout the world today. Our Society here at St. Andrew is sponsoring a “Friends of the Poor Walk” on Saturday, September 29th from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on the church grounds. We encourage all to take a little time to walk with us and/or to support this effort to
promote awareness of the needs of the suffering and raise funds to broaden our work. Details are forthcoming. Again, thank you for your generosity in last week’s collection for the poor. It amounted to $2023.00.

HEALING OF THE CHURCH In light of the disconcerting news in the Church these last few weeks, Father Maciej and Father Jesus have decided to have a Holy Hour for the healing of our Church. During these trying times, many are questioning their faith. But the reason to stay Catholic is because of Christ and His love for all of us. Join the parish and bring your friends on Friday, September 21 at 7:00 PM to pray for the Church, its members and healing.

CLOUD OF WITNESSES The Saints Renew the Church
St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most well-known saints in the Catholic Church. His influence and example even spill out beyond the borders of Catholicism. Who was Francis? Why does his life still inspire and touch so many people? What can he teach us about holiness? Director of Adult Faith Formation, Michael Lewandowski, will tell Francis' story and cover many aspects of the saint's life including his dramatic conversion, love of poverty, affinity with creation, his rigorous self-discipline and sacrificial spirit, the encounter with the wolf of Gubbio, the founding of the Poor Clares, and his holy stigmata.

WE NEED YOU!!
When our phone rings, will you answer it? Somewhere in the world, a lost soul is dialing our toll-free number hoping to find help. Will you answer that call? If God is calling you to help others, consider becoming a phone counselor for The Upper Room Crisis Hotline. We are a faith-based hotline in the Catholic tradition providing counseling and referral assistance to anyone struggling to find her or her way back to God. We help everyone regardless of their faith or background. To be a phone counselor, you don’t need experience in mental health or phone work, although it is helpful. What you will need is a love for people and a strong desire to help the lonely, frightened, and confused. We provide all the training. If this ministry touches your heart, please call Sr. Mary Frances Seeley at 815-341-9124, or email [email protected] with questions. Our next training session begins September 11th. You can also check us out at catholichotline.org.
Thank you and God Bless!

Catechetical Sunday, September 16, 2018
Each year the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops selects a Sunday in September for parishes, in the U.S., to celebrate the sharing of our faith. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists or Catholic school teachers will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry—”Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ.” Parents are truly the primary catechists of their children. They prepare the soil and plant the first seeds of faith. On Catechetical Sunday, we not only highlight the work of catechists in parishes and schools, but we also commend parents and guardians and encourage them to take seriously their role of making their Catholic households a place where faith is passed on to the next generation.—“Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ.”

St. Andrew the Apostle We Care Food Pantry
The St. Andrew We Care Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 10:00 am. until 12:30 p.m. for any eligible family in Romeoville in need of food assistance.
Our pantry is open only to Romeoville residents so proof of residency and an ID must be shown upon sign-in each week. If you are a parishioner of St. Andrew and you find yourself in need of food assistance, you are more than welcome to come to the We Care Food Pantry also. Proof of residency is a utility bill with your name and address on it plus your Driver’s License or State of Illinois ID. That must be brought in each time you come for food assistance.
The Pantry is located at 219 Arlington. For further information, please contact Shirley Grzenia at (630) 945-1317. This is the new phone number to call for food pantry inquiries and assistance. Thank you and God Bless. Crisis Pregnancy Waterleaf 1-888-4-HOPE-4-1 Birthright 1-800-550-4900
