SUNDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2018
25th Sunday of the Year - Year B
In the Gospel today (Mk 9:30-37) we have the second
prediction of the Passion. Jesus tells his apostles that
he will suffer bitter humiliation and death and says
that true greatness shows itself in service towards
the weaker members of the community.
But once again the disciples do not understand.
Instead, motivated by selfish ambition, they get
involved in an argument as to which of them is the
greatest. This kind of ambition is condemned by
Jesus and by St James (second reading). Greatness in
the church is found in diakonia, service and only
there.

Parish Pastoral
Council Matters!
Almost two years ago on the
27th of October 2016 the first
meeting of the Pastoral Parish
Council took place .The purpose
of the new four parish council is
to involve the laity in
partnership with the Parish
Team to support our developing
parish cluster.
The PPC attempts to build up the
cluster parish as a community
of faith supporting our parish
team in developing the spiritual
and pastoral life of the parishes.
To co-ordinate the work of other
groups in the cluster. To
encourage all parishioners to use
their gifts and be active in the
whole parish. It also reaches out
to establish effective links with
other parishes and churches
locally but most importantly, to
reflect and represent the
interests of the parish.
In preparation for taking on the
responsibility of representing
the parishes, the PPC had a
formation session to share our
understanding of the role of
laity and to identify needs for
the council to move forward. The
agreed focus has been the
development of a
communications strategy to
create a common identity for
the four parishes and to
encourage more activities
together rather than as separate
parishes. The council also
wanted to encourage greater
participation by men in
parishes. In October 2017 the
PPC reviewed what had been
achieved and what needed to be
done. A parish wish list was
created to address the needs of
all groups within our cluster
such as: broadening our
understanding of other belief
systems; pastoral care group;
promotion of social justice;
mens’activities and more!
Membership of the council is
open to the whole parish and
should reflect the demographic
make-up of the parish. The
council should ideally be
twenty members including the
parish team. Members should be
confirmed Catholics, active in
the parish and be persons of
faith, hope and charity. There
are recommended time
guidelines for membership to
enable growth and involvement
of people committed to
involvement of the laity in the
decision making and future
planning of parish activity.
Anyone who is interested in
representing their parish, please
make yourself known to
anyone in the parish team.
Each of us is an important
member of the Church and each
of us can contribute through
our gifts to our parish
community.

Parish Pastoral Council

nam przekraczanie Prawa.
czekającej Go męce i śmierci krzyżowej.
Ks. Piotr
