In today’s first reading, 1 Sam 3:3-10, 19, we hear the story of Samuel’s first encounter with the Lord. Scripture tells us that Samuel did not know it was God calling him; he thought it was Eli so he went to him. It was Eli who realized that it was the Lord calling Samuel and instructs him how to
answer. Even today, the Lord is always trying to get our attention, not necessarily speaking to us as in the times of Samuel, but in other subtle and not so subtle ways. How do we recognize the call of God? Who assists us in becoming aware of God’s call? How do we respond?
On Monday, January 19, the office will be closed in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Let us take time to remember this faith filled and inspiring preacher who heard and responded to the call of God.
May we always be open to finding God in everyone and everything we do. Have a great week!
In Christ,
Father Leo
Padre Leo

All women of our parish are invited to attend our Ladies Guild meeting on Saturday, January 24, at 9:00 am in the cafeteria. Following a continental breakfast and meeting, Kathy Morgan, our Youth Minister, will present “In Preparation for the Lenten Season”. The content will be similar to how our youth will experience their Lenten preparation. What a great way to support our Youth Program and begin to focus on our Lenten Journey.

Week at a Glance/Un Vistazo a la Semana
The Mass is a Celebration!
It is a chance to express our joy for the miracle of the risen Christ and the promise of everlasting life.
We show our joy through: ∗ The songs we sing ∗ The Sign of Peace ∗ Full participation in all other parts of the Mass. This expression of faith brings us closer to God and to our faith community. It is a sign of the true happiness that is God’s gift. We are filled with the Spirit of God and feel inner joy and peace. God’s presence fills our lives - in church, at work, at home, in school.
