NOV. 24, 2019 FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING ARCHDIOCESE ANNOUNCEMENTS Prayer Chain Phone # 694-4771 Readings:2 Samuel 5:13, Psalm 122:15 Colossians 1:12, Luke 23:3543 Week by week the Liturgy has been preparing us for the revelation to be made on this, the last Sunday of the Church year. Jesus, we have been shown, is truly the Chosen One, the Messiah of God, the King of the Jews. Ironically, in to- days Gospel we hear these names on the lips of those who dont believe in Him—Israels rulers, the soldiers, and a criminal dying alongside Him. They can only see the scan- dal of a bloodied figure nailed to a cross. They scorn Him in words and gestures foretold in Israels Scriptures (see Psalm 22:79; 69:2122; Wisdom 2:1820). If He is truly King, God will rescue Him, they taunt. But He did not come to save Himself, but to save them—and us. The good thief shows us how we are to accept the salva- tion He offers us. He confesses his sins, acknowledges he deserves to die for them. And He calls on the name of Je- sus, seeking His mercy and forgiveness. By his faith he is saved. Jesus remembershim—as God has always re- membered His people, visiting them with His saving deeds, numbering them among His chosen heirs (see Psalm 106:45). By the blood of His cross, Jesus reveals His Kingship— not by saving His life, but by offering it as a ransom for ours. He transfers us to the Kingdom of His beloved Son,as todays Epistle tells us. His Kingdom is the Church, the new Jerusalem and House of David that we sing of in todays Psalm. By their covenant with David in todays First Reading, Israels tribes are made one bone and fleshwith their king. By the new covenant made in His blood, Christ becomes one flesh with the people of His Kingdom—the head of His body, the Church (see Ephesians 5:2332). We celebrate and renew this covenant in every Eucharist, giving thanks for our redemption, hoping for the day when we too will be with Him in Paradise.—Scott Hahn Copyright © 2019 The St. Paul Center for Biblical Theol- ogy, All rights reserved. www.stpaulcenter.com CLARE HOUSE—. ARCHDIOCESE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Readings:2 Samuel 5:1–3, Psalm 122:1–5 Colossians 1:12–, Luke 23:35–43 Week by week the Liturgy has been preparing us for the revelation to be made on this, the last Sunday of the Church year. Jesus, we have been shown, is truly the Chosen One, the Messiah of God, the King of the Jews. Ironically, in to-day’s Gospel we hear these names on the lips of those who don’t believe in Him—Israel’s rulers, the soldiers, and a criminal dying alongside Him. If He is truly King, God will rescue Him, they taunt. But He did not come to save Himself, but to save them—and us.

The good thief shows us how we are to accept the salva-tion He offers us. He confesses his sins, acknowledges he deserves to die for them. And He calls on the name of Je-sus, seeking His mercy and forgiveness. By his faith he is saved. Jesus “remembers” him—as God has always re-membered His people, visiting them with His saving deeds, numbering them among His chosen heirs (see Psalm 106:4–5).

By the blood of His cross, Jesus reveals His Kingship—not by saving His life, but by offering it as a ransom for ours. He transfers us to “the Kingdom of His beloved Son,” as today’s Epistle tells us. His Kingdom is the Church, the new Jerusalem and House of David that we sing of in today’s Psalm. By their covenant with David in today’s First Reading, Israel’s tribes are made one “bone and flesh” with their king. By the new covenant made in His blood, Christ becomes one flesh with the people of His Kingdom—the head of His body, the Church (see Ephesians 5:23–32).

We celebrate and renew this covenant in every Eucharist, giving thanks for our redemption, hoping for the day when we too will be with Him in Paradise.—Scott Hahn

KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS —The Knights of Co-lumbus Keep Christ in Christmas sales has started and will continue until the 2nd weekend of Advent. If you need reli-gious cards or advent candles please stop by the KCIC table in the Narthex.

First, THANK YOU to those who have already contributed to the One Bread, One Body Archdiocesan Annual Appeal. The monies from this appeal go to particular programs, not administration costs. These include rural outreach, youth and young adult ministries, vocations, Hispanic, native and multi-cultural ministries and other programs. As members of the larger church in Alaska, these are important initiatives for us to support.

If you have not contributed to the annual appeal I earnestly, ask that you contribute some amount to it. Your support not only goes towards reaching our annual goal of $102,980 but is also a way of unifying our local parish family at St. Andrew. Currently 21% of the parish families have paid 72% of our goal. This leaves 79% of our families to make up the remaining 28%.

To this end, we will have a second collection next weekend, November 30/December 1 to cover this difference. The amount doesn’t need to be large but your contribution is important.
