From Fr. Steve…..

The Church remains open for prayer and that is what is very important at a time like this. This is a very serious situation and we need to change our way of being in the world for the time being. Some have said perhaps for thirty days, howev-er things seem to change daily. The Health Care profession-als are recommending we avoid contact with others and self isolate ourselves.

CANCELLATIONS!!

1. The Sugar on Snow brunch has been cancelled at this time. After speaking with the committee, it was decided that the donations that went toward this brunch, would be donated to the Good Sa-maritan Food Pantry.

2. The Lenten Mission has also been decided to be cancelled at this time.

3. The André Brothers and St. Catherine of Siena Scripture Sisters are suspending their gatherings until further notice.

4. Religious Education, including RCIA, classes are suspended until further notice.

5. St. André’s BINGO Fundraiser has also been cancelled at this time until further notice.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Please take note that effective immediately all weekday and weekend Masses are suspended. All the Mass Intentions that have been scheduled during this time, will be rescheduled to a later date once Masses are resumed.

The local clergy will continue to say and record Mass even in the event that we can’t gather. St. André's Mass is recorded and aired on Channel 30 for Time Warner/Spectrum customers on Sunday at 9am, and Thursdays at 7pm and 9pm.

The other alternative for people that have Dish Network is Mass on EWTN - channel 261, and Directv on EWTN - channel 370.

A LETTER FROM OUR BISHOP

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: In light of more recent developments concerning the Coronavirus and its effect on the most vulnerable of our faith family, particu-larly our elderly, all public Masses in the Diocese of Ogdensburg beginning Wednesday, March 18 are suspended until further no-tice. We will keep you informed as to when they will resume. During this time period, all the faithful are dispensed from their Sunday obligation to participate at Mass. This difficult decision for me to ask people not to gather for the Holy Eucharist is made in consideration of strong recommenda-tions from public health officials and after consultation with my vicars and some Deans. Care and concern for everyone’s health (spiritual, emotional and physical), especially elderly persons, those with underlying health issues, our clergy and liturgical min-isters necessitates this extraordinary measure.

Until public Masses are reinstated, priests are encouraged to offer Mass in private. As Catholics, caring for our spiritual and sacra-mental lives is most important. Therefore, our priests will contin-ue to be available for sacramental emergencies while maintaining the necessary public health precautions. At the pastor’s discretion, churches may remain open for private prayer. Public devotions such as the Stations of the Cross should be suspended. However, the faithful are encouraged to make those devotions in private. If a church is open, pastors will ensure that there is a thorough daily cleaning of all surfaces and that so-cial distancing (at least six feet) is maintained.

Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals raise particular concerns. The-se celebrations may proceed but attendance should be limited to immediate family and all public health precautions must be ob-served. Of course, in the case of emergency, Baptism and the Anointing of the Sick should be conferred. The individual recep-tion of the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) may continue to be offered. We are not in a situation that requires general absolution.

Although public Masses are cancelled, your parish will continue to face its financial obligations to employees and others. Please help your parish out by mailing your offering or by online contri-butions. Your pastor will strive to meet payroll and other essen-tial parish bills during this time. Your continued support of your parish is urgently needed and gratefully received at this difficult time. At the pastor’s discretion, parish offices may remain open with essential staff. Pastors will ensure regular thorough cleaning of the office space and appropriate social distancing for the bene-fit of all. For any questions, please contact your pastor.

We continue to pray for our diocesan family. We pray for healing for those already afflicted with the virus. May our Blessed Moth-er intercede with her Son, for those who are hurting, the vulnera-ble and the fearful. May our response to this crisis, be strength-ened through prayer and sacrifice as our Lenten journey contin-ues. I’m so grateful for your prayerful support. Faithfully yours in Christ, Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley Bishop of Ogdensburg

PRAYER TO THE VIRGIN MARY FOR PROTECTION

O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’

pain, with steadfast faith. You, Our Lady of New York, know what we need.

We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did a Cana of Galilee,

joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us:

He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross,

to the joy of Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection,

O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas - we who are put to the test -

and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

A Prayer for Healing

Hear the humble prayer of your people, God our Father, as we implore your mercy. Bring healing to all who have suffered physical, emotional, or sexual abuse at the hands of your ministers and restore them to fullness of life. Forgive your Church for the immense evil that has been committed and the great harm that has been done. Grant the grace of true repentance to all who have broken sacred trust, destroyed precious innocence, and failed to protect your beloved children entrusted to their pastoral care. Reconcile us to one another and never allow us be parted from you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

“The Lord heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

"There are three kinds of giving: grudge giving says, I have to; duty giving says, I ought to; thanksgiving says, I want to. The first comes from constraint; the second from a sense of obligation; the third from a full heart." Rev. Robert Rodenmayer

Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Steven Murray to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encour-aged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or en-tering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).

Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made—for example, the wedding reception.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
