May is the month of Mary, our Mother. Our parish Respect Life organization will be collecting items to help Birthright, Guiding Star Ministries, and Our Lady’s House. All of these places assist young needy women who chose to give birth and life to their babies. The

items needed are diapers, wipes, lotions, clothes, formula, blankets and nonperishable baby food items. Please no open, breakable or out of date items. These donations will be collected during the month of May and can be left in the designated bins in the lobby of the Church. Thank you for your work of mercy.

There will be a Respect Life Meeting on Sunday, April 29, following the 10:00 AM Mass. The meeting will take place in the Lower Level of the Rectory. All are invited.

PAGE 4 – 0139 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

FROM THE PASTOR Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The days are going so quickly, and now we are on the brink of May. I hope that we will enjoy some spring-like weather, for we know that Spring seems to be a short season. The month of May brings some happy occasions, beginning next Saturday, when our Parish celebrates First Holy Communion. Please pray for the 83 children who will receive Our Eucharistic Lord for the first time, as well as for their families. May all of us renew our love for Jesus in the Eucharist! May also is the month of Our Lady. Saint Albert the Great Parish will celebrate our annual May Procession on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 P.M. All are

invited as we honor Our Blessed Mother. During the month of May, again in the narthex, we will set up a “shrine” to Mary, Undoer of Knots. So many people are experiencing trials, heartbreak, temptation and anxiety. All of this, we can – and should – bring to Our Blessed Mother who cares for us and intercedes for her children with unspeakable tenderness and astonishing persistence. Pope Francis reminds us: “But we know one thing: nothing is impossible for God’s mercy! Even the most tangled knots are loosened by his grace. And Mary, whose ‘yes’ opened the door for God to undo the knot of the ancient disobedience, is the Mother who patiently and lovingly brings us to God, so that he can untangle the knots of our soul by his fatherly mercy” (Pope Francis, Sermon on Mary, Undoer of Knots, January 7, 2016). As we did two years ago, people will be able to tie their intentions around the image of Our Lady and we will pray for one another’s intentions as we entrust them to Our Lady.

God bless you! Sincerely yours in Christ, Monsignor Duncan

Life Resurrected: A Catholic Based Support Group for those who have lost someone to suicide. We invite you to our meeting on Thurs., May 10, from 7-8:30 PM at St. Albert the Great Rectory. For info, please call Cathy at 267-994-8328 or email [email protected]

EVENING OF REFLECTION ON THE FEMININE GENIUS On Monday, May 14, our parish will host an evening of reflection at 7 PM on Pope Saint John Paul II’s 1995 Letter to Women and the theology of the Feminine Genius. This talk will

focus on the unique gifts and strengths of women in the Church and world! Our speaker will be Meghan Cokeley, the Director of the Office for the New Evangelization for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Don’t miss out on this inspiring good news!

Saint Albert the Great Shrine - Friends for the Future: Since there was room on the new shrine, we included a new category, “Friends for the Future.” Since the blessing of the statue on November 14, a number of parishioners have asked to be included in this category on the shrine. We ask a donation of $1,000, which will be placed in a special fund designated for the future needs of our church/sanctuary. There are 17 spaces still available. For more information, please contact the Rectory.

Men's Spirituality Group Following on the heels of our parish participation in Rise - A 30 Day Challenge, which took place over Lent for men, we have formed a new men's spirituality group. The group meet's on Friday mornings from 6:45 - 7:45 PM in the rectory basement (enter via the door next to the garage). The group gathers for prayer, refreshments, and discussion of what it means to live our Catholic faith as men, fathers, brothers, sons, and husbands. We are currently discussing the Apostolic Exhortation, Into the Breach, written by Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted, bishop of Phoenix, AZ. While this work is of value to all men of every age, it is an excellent follow-up for those men who participated in Rise during Lent. The document can be obtained online at http://saintalthegreat.org/news/forward-into-the-breach.pdf and contains a study guide making it easy for men unable to gather on Friday mornings to work independently. For more information about the group, contact Dennis M. Mueller at [email protected] or 215-947-3641. MAY PROCESSION – Our annual May Procession will be on Thursday, May 17, at 7 PM. Please come and join us as we give honor to our Blessed Mother and implore her powerful intercession.

FROM MRS. KOONS, SCHOOL PRESIDENT Every other year, the All Catholic choir and band members perform at the Kimmel

Center and it is a beautiful event. One of the most touching parts of the show is when the children from Our Lady of Confidence School, a school for children with special needs, perform. We are so proud to be in an archdiocese that has a school like this. We are also proud of all of our students who tried out and were chosen to perform. Congratulations to our singers—Danielle Durante, Ciara Garvey, Quincey Kilbride, Maggie Phillips, Isabella Walls, and Siena Webb. Congratulations also to our band members—CJ Kearney, guitar; Sean McShea, clarinet; Justin Moore, percussion; Maggie Rose Pokrywka, flute; Juliana Stein, baritone; and Jacob Stevens, clarinet. Of course, we must also congratulate Mr. Sonny Facenda, our band leader and instrumental instructor, and to Mrs. Karen Youngers, our music teacher and voice instructor, for continuing to do a wonderful job with our students. Remember to save the dates: June 1, 3:30 – 5:30 – A get together for all of our high school and college aged alumni on the field; and June 3, 10:00 Mass – Distinguished Alumni Award Presentation to Dr. Mark C. Reed – Class of 1988 SATG PLEASE Spread the Word!

Throughout the weekends in May, lottery tickets will be available in the main entrance of Church to help support the

work of “Our Lady’s House,” located in Glenside. Their mission consists of providing residence for homeless, pregnant women, and preparing them to return to society fully functioning. If your lottery ticket matches the PA lottery evening number, you win $50 during the week or $100 on the weekends. The ticket cost is $10.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Here in the United States there is a great need for

evangelization and sharing the message of Christ and the beauty of the Church. The Church at home needs to be strengthened and fortified. Soon, as a diocese, we will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal (CHMA), which supports the neediest dioceses in the United States. This appeal makes the most basic faith programs possible and shares the gospel message with our brothers and sisters in dioceses where Church communities are scattered and struggling.

The Diocese of Pueblo’s terrain, very mountainous and lonely, has shaped the attitude of pastors and parishioners alike—they tend to be highly independent. This has served them well, since only 44 priests and 45 deacons are available to serve the needs of over 64,000 Catholics. The diocese is primarily rural, covering the entire southern half of the state of Colorado, and the priest shortage is felt very strongly there. But with your support of CHMA, the Diocese of Pueblo offers lay ministry training programs. This training will provide ministers to serve the most isolated parishes and offer spiritual support for Catholics in the diocese.

Your support of this appeal makes a difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters right here in the United States. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the appeal this year. Thank you for strengthening the Church at home.

Gratefully and with best wishes in Jesus Christ, + Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.

Archbishop of Philadelphia

Please join us for the Family Mass next Sunday, May 6, at the 10 AM Mass. Also, refreshments will be available in the parish auditorium immediately following the 8 and 10 AM Masses.
