Foreshadowing and SuspenseReview
“Rikki-tikki-tavi”
Suspense
• When you feel growing tension and excitement as you reador watch a movie, that feeling is called suspense.
Writers may build suspense by using foreshadowing, clues or
hints about what will happen later.
Foreshadowing can come from the setting details or from a character’s unusual statement or strong warning.
Individual Work
Girls1) Record 5 clues that
suggest Rikki-tikki will win his battle with the snakes.
Example: The first line describes “the great war that Rikki-tikki-tavi fought single-handed.”
Boys1) Record 5 clues that
suggest Rikki-tikki will lose his battle with the snakes
Example: Line 86 describes “Darzee and his wife cowered down.” This shows them being very afraid of Nag, possibly for good reason.
