ASSISTANT'S GRADE EXAMINATION

PurposeThe aim of the Assistants' Grade Examination is to recruit candidates for various Indian Government positions:

1. Grade IV Assistant of the General Cadre of the Indian Foreign Services B

2. Grade II Cypher Assistant of Cypher Cadre of Indian Foreign Service Branch B

3. Assistants' Grade of the Railway Board Secretariat Service

4. Assistants' Grade of the Central Secretariat Service

EligibilityDegree from a recognized University or equivalent At least 20 years old and not more than 24 years old on the first day of August in the year before the exam. The upper age limit may be relaxed for people of respect of backward caste, tribe etc. The upper age limit is also relaxed to 30 years in respect of LDCs/UDCs, Stenographers Grade 'D' and Grade III

with not less than 3 years continuous and regular service in various departments/offices of Government of India.

Preliminary ExaminationThe Preliminary examination is designed to for test takers to prove they are capable of taking the Main Examination. The total score is out of 300 marks which consists of the following subjects:

1. Reasoning Ability - 75 marks (75 Questions)

2. General Awareness - 75 marks (75 Questions)

3. Arithmetic - 75 marks (75 Questions)

4. Language Paper - 75 marks (75 Questions)

Type: The papers in all the subjects will be of objective type. Language: Question papers will be set both in English and Hindi.

Part (IV) Language paper will be of qualifying nature and the marks secured by the candidates in this part will not be counted for the preparation of the list of candidates to be called for the main examination. The aggregate marks secured in Part (I), (II) and (III) will be taken for preparation of the list of candidates to be called for Main Examination.

The Commission has the discretion to fix minimum qualifying standard in any of the four parts of the Preliminary Examination.

Syllabus for Preliminary ExaminationThis is of multiple choice questions type.

1. Reasoning Ability Syllabus

Questions in the Test of Reasoning Ability will be Non-Verbal and Verbal both. Of the 75 items, 25 items will be of Non-Verbal based on Classification, Analogy and Series, etc. The remaining 50 items will be of Verbal Type based on Letter/Number series, Letter/Number/Word Analogy, Number/Letter/Word Classification, Coding and Decoding, Problem Solving/Finding the Rule, Spatial Orientation/Special Visualization, Statement Conclusion/Syllogistic Reasoning.

2. General Awareness Syllabus

Questions in this test will aim at measuring knowledge of current events besides knowledge of General Science/Social Science and their application to the society. This test will also include questions on Sports, Culture, History, Geography, General Polity, etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

3. Arithmetic Syllabus

This test will include questions on problems relating to Number Systems, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Estimation, Use of Tables and Graphs, Mensuration, Time and Distance, Ratio and Time etc.

5. Language Test

Questions in this test will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks (using Verbs, Prepositions, Articles, etc.), vocabulary, spellings, sequence of sentences in a paragraph, sequence of words in a sentence, cloze passage and comprehension passages, etc. Synonyms and antonyms will be asked in the context of the given passage.

Main ExaminationMain exam is of conventional type (300 Marks) and will consist of the following papers:

Paper I: Language Comprehension (3 hours)

1. General English - 50 Marks

2. Communication/Writing Skills - 150 Marks

General English: In addition to the testing of candidates understanding of the English Language and its correct usage, his writing ability would also be tested. A question on paragraph writing/report writing etc. may also be included.

Communication/Writing Skills: In addition to the testing of candidate's ability to understand correct English/Hindi Language, his comprehension and writing ability would also be tested. Questions on Precise, Short Essay, Letter Writing etc., would also be included.

Paper II: Arithmetic (2 hours)

The Maximum Marks are 100. The question papers for the Main Examination will be of Conventional (Essay) Type.

Paper II: Arithmetic Syllabus: Simplifications involving Decimal Fractions, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Average, Profit and Loss, Discount, Simple and Compound Interest, Graphical Representation of Data, Reading of Linear Graphs and Tabulation of Data.

In Paper I, Part (a) of Main Examination will be compulsory for all the candidates. However, this will be of a qualifying nature. The marks secured in this part will not be counted for preparation of the final selection list. The Commission have the discretion to fix a qualifying standard in this part.

Candidates will have the option to answer Paper I Part (b) (Communication/Writing Skill) and Paper II (Arithmetic) either in Hindi or in English.

Scripts of Paper I Part (b) (Communication/Writing Skill) and Paper II (Arithmetic) will be evaluated of only those candidates who secure minimum qualifying standard in Part (a) of Paper I of the Main Examination.

The notification for this LIC Officers' examination commences in the month of April, generally. The examination generally is conducted in the month of June.

 

Eligibility

 

18 to 25 years on the 1st August of the year of examination. Upper age limit relaxable for scheduled castes/scheduled tribes, etc.

Educational Qualification - Matriculation or equivalent.

 

Exam pattern of Clerks Grade Examination

 

The Clerks Grade Examination conducted by SSC comprises of the following exam pattern. The examination shall consist of two parts. Part I, Written Examination and Part II, Typewriting Test for those candidates who attain such minimum standards in the written test as may be fixed by the commission in their discretion.

Written Examination

The subjects of written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks for each subject will be as follows:

1. General Intelligence and Clerical Aptitude - For 50 Marks

2. English Language - For 50 Marks

3. Numerical Aptitude - For 50 Marks

4. General Awareness - For 50 Marks

Duration of each test will be 2 hrs.

The questions in all the four tests will be Objective - Multiple Choice TypeCandidates will be required to qualify in each of the tests separately.

Type Writing Test

Only those candidates who qualify in the written examination will be eligible for type writing test. It shall consist of one paper of 'Running Matter' of 10 minutes duration.

Syllabus of General Intelligence and Clerical Aptitude

It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualisation, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision-making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate's ability to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.

Clerical Aptitude is designed to test candidate's perceptual accuracy and aptitude. This is the ability to notice similarities and differences between pairs of names and numbers. Questions in clerical aptitude will also assess in addition to perceptual accuracy and aptitude, ability to handle office routine work, like filing, abbreviating, indexing etc.

English Language Syllabus

Questions in this test will be set to assess the knowledge of English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms etc. There will also be questions on comprehension of a passage.

Numerical Aptitude Syllabus

Questions will be designed to test the ability of arithmetical computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions and relationship between numbers. The questions would be based on arithmetical concepts and relationship between numbers and not on complicated arithmetical computation.

General Awareness Syllabus

Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate's general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test the knowledge of current affairs and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. An elementary knowledge of computers will also be ascertained. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries, especially those information which are related to history, geography, culture, economic scenario, polity and scientific research.

Only those candidates who qualify in all the four tests would be eligible to be considered for being called for the 'typewriting test'. The commission will have full discretion to fix the minimum qualifying marks in each of the four tests.

Typewriting Test Syllabus

It shall consist of one paper of 'Running Matter' of 10 minutes duration. The type-writing test will be a qualifying test only. Only such candidates as qualify in the type writing test with a speed of not less than 30 words per minute in English or not less than 25 words per minute in Hindi will be eligible for being recommended for appointment as Lower Division Clerks in the Central Secretariat and its attached/subordinate offices etc.

DELHI POLICE SUB-INSPECTORS' EXAM

Purpose

The aim of the District Savings Officers Examination is to recruit candidates for the posts in the office of the National Savings Commissioner.

PurposeThe Staff Selection Commission of India conducts every year, the Income Tax / Central Excise Inspectors' Examination to recruit the following personnel to appoint in the under mentioned Indian Government offices/services:

Examination Plan:The examination will be conducted in two parts:

    A. Part I Written Examination: 300 marks    B. Part II Skill Test.

A. Part I: Written Examination:

The Examination will consist of two Papers I and II. Paper I will be Objective Type Multiple Choice whereas Paper II will be of Conventional Type.

Paper I consists of Part A - General English & Part B - General Awareness. Both are 100 marks each. Paper II - Arithmetic is also of 100 marks. Both papers are 2 hours duration.

Paper II (Conventional Paper) will be evaluated in respect of only those candidates who qualify in Paper I at the minimum standard which may be decided by the Commission at its discretion.

B. Part II: SKILL TEST

Data Entry Speed of 8000 Key Depressions per hour (appropriate to the text) on computer. This Data Entry Speed/Skill Test would be of

qualifying nature. Candidates allowed to take this test will have to qualify the test at the prescribed speed on Computer, to be provided by the Commission or agency authorized by the Commission to conduct such skill test at the Centre/venue so notified.

NOTE I:

The Skill Test will be conducted by an agency duly authorized by the Commission for the purpose, under the supervision and control of Commission.

NOTE II:

Only those candidates who secure in the written examination the minimum qualifying marks as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will only be eligible to appear in the SKILL TEST. The SKILL TEST will be held at the Commission’s Regional Offices or other Centres as may be decided by the Commission.

Paper II (Conventional): Arithmetic:

questions on analogies, similarities, and differences, space visualization problem solving analysis judgment, decision making

visual memory discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning verbal and figure classification

arithmetical number series non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidates' ability to

deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.

2. General Awareness: Questions will be aimed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its

application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day

observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include

questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, economic scene,

General polity and scientific research.

3. Numerical Ability: The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the

candidate. The scope of the test will be the computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions and relationship between

numbers, decimals and fractions, and relationships between numbers, It will test sense of order of magnitude, estimation or

prediction for the solution to real life problems and knowledge of alternative computation procedure to find answers.

Paper- II GENERAL ENGLISH:

The candidates will be mainly tested in the following areas:-

1. Simple and plain use of English Language and clarity of expression.

Purpose

The aim of the Stenographers' Examination is to select candidates for the following positions:

There is a single paper for both the subjects of the Objective multiple Choice Type questions. Candidates are required to qualify in each of the two subjects separately.

The Commission has full discretion to fix the minimum qualifying marks in either or both the subjects. Only such candidates who attain, in each of the two subjects of the Written Examination, a minimum standard, as may be fixed by the Commission in their discretion, are eligible to take the Shorthand Test (Part II of the Examination).

The candidates will have option to answer the language test either in Hindi or in English. The candidates who opt for Hindi medium in shorthand are required to take the language test in Hindi only and candidates opting for English shorthand are required to take the language test in English.

Standard of the Examination:

The standard of the questions is approximately that of the Matriculation Examination of an Indian University.

TRANSMISSION EXECUTIVES EXAMINATION

PurposeThis examination is held once a year generally in the month of May for recruitment to the posts of Transmission Executives in All-India Radio/Doordarshan.

Important DatesThe blank application forms and other particulars are published in the Employment News in the month of January. The last date for the submission of application is usually 4th week of February.

Eligibility

Educational Qualifications:

Essential:

1. Degree of a recognized University or equivalent qualification or a Diploma from  National School of Drama, New Delhi or

Diploma from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune or a Diploma in Sound Broadcasting.

2. Proficiency in the language relevant to the vacancy.

Desirable:

1. Acquaintance with the culture, traditions and literature of the area concerned.

2. Knowledge of National and International Affairs.

3. Record of literacy or dramatic or debating or musical achievements or publications on literacy or scientific subjects.

4. Knowledge of other languages of the area concerned.

Age

18 to 30 years on the first January of the year of examination. Upper age limit relaxable for Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Physically Handicapped, etc.

Examination Plan

PART I-Written Examination. 400 marks

PART II-Personality Test. 100 marks

The Written Examination consist of the following tests:

1. General Intelligence

2. English Language

3. General Awareness with special reference to the cultural heritage of India 100 200

Note:

The questions are Objective Type each having four alternative responses.

Candidates would have to attain minimum qualifying marks, as may be fixed by the Commission in their discretion, separately in respect of the three tests and also in the aggregate of the three tests taken together.
