Our snowbirds are back and now the cottagers will be heading out for their escape. Always lots happening in our home. Your New Board: The board members and roles for this year will be: Marg Arland-President, George Attridge-Vice President, Ron Ptasiuk- Secretary /Treasurer, Michael Holmes-Director, Kathleen Hryciuk-Harrison- Director. Business Update: Our condominium fees continue to be the lowest in the Barrie area. Your Board focus for 2012 is on the value we receive for every dollar we spend. Annually we validate our mission to ensure the principals are still sound. Our mission continues to be focused on: Owners’ Peaceful Enjoyment of all Facilities, Cleanliness of the Building, Strong Social Environment, Protecting Property Value, and Communication (thoughtful, timely and professional). Communication is the area where we will place greater emphasis this year. Performance Audit: To date, over 66% of the items have been corrected and signed off. We continue to work with the builder to resolve the outstanding issues. Interior Design Project: This year’s portion of the design project should be completed by June. There has been a lot of very positive feedback. Next year we will budget to tackle the lobby and determine if we can afford to do some of the individual floor hallways/and or lighting. This will be an ongoing project as we want to enhance the look of our building to maintain and increase the value of our property. Welcoming Committee: A Welcome Package is being prepared to be delivered to all new residents of 37 Nautica. The objective of this package is to have everyone joining our community feel welcome and understand Condo living. A “Welcoming Committee” will be created, with volunteers to deliver these packages when there is a new resident. PLEASE EMAIL MARG ARLAND AT [email protected] IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING ON THIS COMMITTEE. Watch Your Pets: Please be very careful with your pets on the balcony. There has been a very sad situation where a cat fell from a balcony and died. NOTES FROM THE BOARD

The waterfront is coming alive with all the spring and summer activities. Our snowbirds are back and now the cottagers will be heading out for their escape. Always lots happening in our home.

Your New Board: The board members and roles for this year will be: Marg Arland-President, George Attridge-Vice President, Ron Ptasiuk-Secretary /Treasurer, Michael Holmes-Director, Kathleen Hryciuk-Harrison-Director.

Performance Audit: To date, over 66% of the items have been corrected and signed off. We continue to work with the builder to resolve the outstanding issues.

Interior Design Project: This year’s portion of the design project should be completed by June. There has been a lot of very positive feedback. This will be an ongoing project as we want to enhance the look of our building to maintain and increase the value of our property.

Security Guards Role: Please be reminded that this is NOT a high-security building. We do not have a concierge stopping all visitors and delivery persons. Many people politely hold the door open for others, letting strangers in. Vehicles follow others into the garage; changing the timing for the opening of the doors could cause damage to both vehicles and/or the doors themselves.

The Board wishes to remind everyone to take all the precautions as if you lived in a single family home. Lock your doors, and do not leave valuables in sight.

Site Personnel are ready to assist you at all hours with security issues. However, in an emergency - fire or other immediate dangers, PLEASE contact 911 before calling the Site Personnel. Barrie's Emergency Services are trained to respond to life-threatening situations - and the staff is pleased to support, coordinate or assist where required. In after hours situations - particularly noise and disturbances - please contact the staff on duty (located on the 2nd level Podium and by phone at 705 333 -8885). Personnel will immediately investigate your concerns, document, and provide feedback to the Property Manager in case of corrective action. Your follow-up with Management is important so that they may get additional information – i.e. previous occurrences, etc.

Jodi and Peter Kohal along with members of their family celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary at Happy Hour in May. Congratulations on your many years together.

ACTIVITIES BEING PLANNED:

Entertainment at Happy Hour: Mark your calendars for Friday, June 15th as it will be a fun night of entertainment by North of Fifty! The musical duo, Al Beardsall and Lloyd Preston, present a wide variety of musical selections touching across several genres. Both fellows are from this area (Al - Elmvale; Lloyd - Midhurst). They play at dances and provide musical entertainment for all occasions. Retirement has offered them greater freedom and flexibility to perform. Quite often they are found entertaining audiences of their same age/musical tastes. Their repertoire includes standards, sing-a-longs, old tyme fiddle, jazz, country, novelty pieces and comedy. They particularly enjoy interaction with an audience. Lloyd plays fiddle, saxophone, piano and Al handles vocals, bass and piano. Their cumulative musical experience exceeds one hundred years - they must be old!! Sharing music is the name of their game! Get ready and enjoy!!!!

Second Annual Nautica Golf Tournament: Come and enjoy a round of golf on Saturday, June 16th, at Pine View Golf Club. Cost will be $45 per person and will include golf followed by a "cold" buffet dinner in the Ellen Room. Non golfers can sign up for dinner only at $8.00 per person. Sign-up sheet is now available on the bulletin board in the podium.

English Tea: Sunday June 24th at 3:00 p.m. The sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board in the podium on May 27th. It promises to be a wonderful afternoon … put on your best bonnet and join us.

MISCELLANEOUS:

BULLETIN BOARD: The bulletin board in the podium area is for the sole use of the Social Committee

and their activities.

HAPPY HOUR: The Social Committee will provide snacks at Happy Hour consisting of chips, nuts, pretzels, etc. If anyone wishes to provide hors d’oeuvres, please feel free to do so.

NAUTICA RESIDENTS DIRECTORY: The directory for the Nautica residents has been prepared and distributed. Inclusion in the directory is voluntary and is distributed only to those who have contributed their names and contact information. For further information, please contact the newsletter editor, [email protected]

FUNDS FOR SOCIAL COMMITTEE: Thanks to all the volunteers for their help with managing the bottle returns during the winter months. Please continue to contribute your Beer, Liquor and Wine bottles in the bins provided. These funds will be used to provide snacks for Happy Hour and to off-set costs for special events. To volunteer for future months, please contact Nancy by e-mail at [email protected] . The Social Committee will provide gas cards to those who volunteer to return the bottles.

Thank you to Nancy Pakulak and the Committee (pictured here at Happy Hour) – Colleen Attridge, Marion Cassell, Deanna Clark, Jean Cornett, Joan Gelinas, Sharon Hill, Maureen Holmes, Valerie Holst, Jodi Kohal, Lois Lea, Sandy Pestill, Kathleen White, and Jean Wright – for their work in planning and arranging all these activities for the Nautica residents.
