Principal’s Message

Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi has

a legacy of academic and professional excellence and has been a

pioneer in undergraduate management education since 1987. We

constantly strive to meet the growing needs of the industry with

innovative methods of classroom teaching and ample corporate

exposure. The faculty, the staff, the students and the alumni work

together to create an environment wherein every student has the

opportunity to develop skills in his or her specific area of interest.

Each one of our students, I believe, has transformed from a mere 10+2

school pass out into a mature individual and given the right

opportunity, they hold the potential to further transform themselves

into astute thought leaders of tomorrow. With this, I welcome our

friends from the corporate world and the industry to take part in this

final stage of their transformation and invite you to our campus for

placements for the batch of 2011-12. I also thank each one of you for

the unflinching support and constant patronage that you have provided

to SSCBS in the past. We look forward to experiencing the same

synergy in the future

classroom teaching with corporate exposure by way of summer

training, case studies, simulations and projects.

The faculty at CBS caters to the students' individual needs by providing

ready assistance to them in their academic, research and career

problems. Each year we try to raise the bar set by us as we move to

more innovative and unconventional ways of teaching as learning

supplements, besides retaining the core strength of dedicated class

room teaching.

At CBS, the faculty teaches by the ideals of practical learning

supplemented by a strong theoretical knowledge of subjects.

9

The CBS

Difference

We constantly endeavour to create opportunities for skill development

in different areas of interest, and to cater to the diverse needs of our

students. Apart from possessing a clear understanding of the

fundamentals of management as well as a considerable degree of

corporate exposure, our students are resourceful, versatile and

enthusiastic. It is this marked difference that has helped the college set

new benchmarks every placement season.

CBS was the first college under the

University of Delhi to offer an

undergraduate management education,

and that spirit of innovation still drives

us today. What sets CBS apart from

various other colleges is our recognition

of the fact that every student is different.

We strive to identify and cultivate that

difference.

Apart from placements, the college

places a strong emphasis on

entrepreneurship and was the first

college in the University of Delhi to have

an on-campus Incubation Centre that has

given birth to multiple startups, three of

which are currently generating annual

revenues worth over 5 lakhs each.

Our students are not only entrepreneurial

in nature, but innovative as well and one

of the students at the undergraduate level

even has a patent pending in his name.

10

Extracurricular Activities

At CBS, we take our Extra Curricular Activities very seriously and

testimony to that fact is the sheer number of societies we have and the diverse areas in which they operate. CBS offers a competitive

environment, where students can pursue their visions and interests.

Various organizational and extra-curricular experiences help the

students in leveraging the gains of the structured program. Events are organized and handled independently by students as a necessary

supplement to classroom teaching. These events act as exercises in multitasking, time management and sharpening organizational,

leadership, and coordination skills

11

Events & Achievements

The college possesses a vibrant environment and offers a platform for

some of the brightest minds across the country to pursue and further

their interests in a variety of fields. These events are organized on a

fairly large scale and provide a platform for students to showcase and

exhibit their managerial skills, which are getting polished with every

year of study.

Adelanto Students from CBS organized the first

full-fledged corporate simulation in the

Delhi University, providing the

students with an opportunity to

experience the boardroom culture,

crisis resolution, corporate

communication and step in the shoes of corporate honchos.

Crescendo Crescendo, the Annual Cultural Festival

of CBS, aims to bring things to a fever

pitch and to extract the highest levels of

performance from all those involved in

it. This year too, Crescendo came out as

one of the best fests of DU.

Convergence The annual flagship national business convention of

the college - 'Convergence', brings together the top

brass of several big business houses and scores of

students from across the spectrum mulling over the

most contentious issues pertaining to business and

economics.

12

Manthan It was designed to reach out to the

masses giving a message of hope,

revival and awakening among the

youth of the country. This is

generally a 15-20 day event during

which street plays are performed at

public places by various colleges of

the University of Delhi, S.I.F.E. SSCBS

S.I.F.E. SSCBS was awarded

the 3rd prize and the

People’s Choice Award and

a cash prize of 11,000 USD at

the Dell Social Innovation

Competition. Other notable

from MIT, Harvard Business

School, Princeton, and Yale

& Stanford. S.I.F.E. SSCBS

will also be representing

India at the S.I.F.E world cup

in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia in

October 2011.

TEDxUniversityofDelhi The first TEDx event to ever take

place in the University of Delhi

building on the string of successful

TEDx talks across the globe. The

theme of the event was: Creating A

Dent in the Universe. Some of the

speakers who spoke at the event

(Founder, Naukri.com), Rajiv

Laxman (Co-host, MTV Roadies),

Ashish Rajpal (CEO, iDiscoveri) and

Mahesh Murthy (CEO, Pinstorm) to

name a few.

13

We conduct the annual placement and internship process according to

a policy that is evolved each year, based on past experiences, in order

to optimize the benefits to the recruiters as well as the students.

We offer recruiters a number of opportunities to interact with and

explore the best of students who fit perfectly in their organization.

In order to achieve our goal of ‘career development' we help students

explore options through personal counseling and support, alumni

mentoring and networking opportunities, assistance in resume

building and presentation, conducting mock interviews and providing

current industry information

We at CDC believe in the ideals of hard work and performance.

The Career Development

Centre (CDC), the

Placement Cell of the

college serves as an

interface between the

students and the

recruiters.

CDC offers a host of

services in the areas of

placements, internships

and live projects.

Recruiting

At CBS

The Career Development Centre provides

assistance to recruiters throughout the

hiring process. We are committed to

working closely with you to find a CBS

recruitment strategy that matches your

organization's requirements. Identical

opportunities to hire CBSites are provided

twice a year on our campus in Delhi. We

recommend mixing and matching the

following recruitment methods according to your precise needs.

Post a Job Description

At any time during the year, descriptions of

career opportunities (full-time positions or

internships) can be posted on our user-

friendly website. Viewed by aspiring CBSites,

the site makes it possible for participants to

directly respond to you.

On-Campus Recruitment If you wish to build your corporate brand

image and increase awareness of the career

opportunities on offer, on-campus recruitment

is the best approach. This usually consists of a

one-hour presentation followed by employer-student interaction.

Internships & Live Projects The students have to undergo compulsory summer internships at the

end of the 2nd and 4th semesters. This presents a unique opportunity

to interact with the students through a first-hand experience prior to

final placements. Many such internships result in Pre Placement Offers

and companies also transform into regular recruiters.

order to be able to map the

class profile and share

information and experiences.

Recruiters are welcome to

engage in mutually beneficial

interactions with the students Seminars and

Workshops Towards the end of supplementing

experts to hold seminars and

workshops or conduct session on

subjects of their expertise.

for companies on specific project

based jobs. Internships Under the BBS & BFIA program the

students undertake 6-8 weeks

internships after semesters II & IV. Placements A majority of the students opt for

placements, while a few of them pursue

higher education immediately upon

graduation.

19

STAGE I - PRE PLACEMENT TALK (PPT)

All companies that wish to recruit students from BBS/BFIA/B.Sc./PGDCA may visit

the campus to conduct an interactive session with the students to disseminate

information about the company, the profiles offered and (respective)

compensation, and other material information; and to acquaint the

students/prospective candidates with the company's business, history, employee

culture, etc. This will also be an opportunity for the company to endorse/promote

itself to the students. All the companies are required to provide details about the

job profile(s) and compensation package to the placement cell to move to Stage

II.

STAGE II - CAMPUS RANKING AND SLOTTING

Once the students are acquainted with the profiles being offered by all the

recruiters, they will be asked to rank the companies on the basis of their

individual preferences. The preferences of the students with respect to the

companies will be statistically cumulated to arrive at the Campus Ranking and

will be the basis for Slotting the companies into groups of four. The Slot Results

will be indicated to the recruiters 10 days prior to the commencement of the

Placement Process.

STAGE III - THE PLACEMENT PROCESS

The Placement Season will be scheduled according to the slots. The Placement

Process will be guided by the following rules:

1. The results of all 4 companies of a slot will be announced simultaneously.

2. A student may apply to all companies in a slot, but he/she may only accept one

offer. In the event that a student receives multiple offers, he/she will have to

make an on-the-spot decision with respect to the companies making offers to

him/her.

3. A student may apply to all the slots until he/she has been made at least one

offer. A student who has received an offer is entitled to apply to a maximum of one more company provided he/she has ranked it higher.
