STUDY FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION for 2017 Applications open 31 st March and close at 5pm 28 th April 2017 Study Fellowship applications are available to support scientist’s working on the Royal North Shore Hospital campus in either research, diagnostic or therapeutic fields to undertake short-term (3 weeks to 5 months) scientific training in an overseas institution starting in 2017. Eligibility To be eligible for these awards, you must have been working as a scientist on the RNSH campus for at least one year, return to the RNSH after the award, and be a current financial member of the Scientific Staff Council for a minimum period of 6 months. Membership is annual and runs for the financial year. Ineligibility Previous recipients of an International or Australasian Travel or Study awards are ineligible to apply for the same award for a period of two years after conferral – e.g., if awarded the SSC international award in 2016 then you are ineligible to apply for another international award in 2017, but will be eligible in 2018. Ineligibility

Conditions of Fellowship

The recipient will be required to provide a brief written report on the benefit received from the award and proof of all costs paid for by the awardee (original receipts for expenses must be in the name of the recipient) before reimbursement. Retrospective applications will only be considered by the Award Assessment committee in exceptional circumstances. The committee reserves the right not to award these fellowships if no suitable applications are received. The funds must be used to attend the meeting the applicant applied to go to unless exceptional circumstances that are made known to, and approved by, the SSC Executive. The Study Fellowship must begin in the year of award. All claims (with original receipts) must be submitted within 3 months of your return. Receipts for Domestic travel must have the GST component clearly listed.

STUDY FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONThe following attachments and information are required:

A letter of nomination or support from your head of department, supervisor or professional referee This letter must indicate that you have been working as a scientist at the RNSH campus for at

least one year and that you are returning to work at this campus for at least 6 months following the event for which funding is requested.

This letter must state the source of the direct research costs associated with this fellowship if applicable.

The person providing the letter of support cannot be an applicant for the same award in the same round of applications.

A letter of invitation from the proposed supervisor / collaborator / course organiser at the host institution where the study fellowship will be undertaken This letter must be on the official letterhead of the institution, briefly state the reason for the

visit, and include the intended dates that the applicant will be at the institution.

Your CV/Résumé (maximum 3 pages) This should include your current position(s) and department with date of commencement;

qualification; publication list and/or professional activities; recent honorary service to the scientific or lay community as a scientist (e.g. departmental safety officer, executive member of ethics or other campus committees); conferences attended and travel funding received in the last 2 years. Greater mark weighting is given to community service undertaken on the RNSH campus.

An itinerary detailing the costs requested The fellowship must commence in the same year that you successfully applied for the award. This fellowship covers the costs of travel to and from the host institution, accommodation while

training is being undertaken at the host institution, and course registration costs (if applicable) up to a maximum of $6000 (AUD).

The costs of accommodation in transit (ie, to and from the host institution), taxi fares, gratuities, meals and research related consumables are NOT covered by this fellowship.

The above information and completed application form (Sections 1-8) must be combined into a single pdf named:SSC_Year_STUDY_Name (eg, SSC_2017_STUDY_Brown)

Applications that do not include all of the above required attachments and information or that do not comply with the stated requirements will not be considered. Hand written applications will not be considered. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
