Analysis of Film Trailer Websites

Mamma Mia’s website is linked to the universal studio site; not an individual website. It is a

very simplistic design showing links to other universal films, based at the top. It’s not very

imaginative compared to other websites I have looked at; however as its part of a huge

production company I think that’s their selling point. Compared to the 4.3.2.1 website which

emphasises the importance of the name; the main characters; which popular film its

producers have made and suits the genre and storyline. It is a very stylish young website

with links and pictures reflecting this. It plays soundtracks which are for young adults which

highlights this is their target audience. It shows it is for both genders; by showing the

characters and settings, along with the trailer, competitions etc and other media products

attached to the film e.g. twitter. In comparison with Mamma Mia; which is more of a

promotional website, which has a continual colour scheme with Universal Studios so it

shows it has a diverse target audience. It has links to other films from this production

company; so makes the films expectations higher and more professional.

As 4.3.2.1 is aimed at young adults it uses a range of media products and interactive

features for the audience. With pictures from the film, its trailer, music from the film and its

music videos, hyperlinks to social network sites such as face book and twitter which are

renowned teenage websites. You can download wallpapers, music from the film and links to

where to purchase the film. This is a very persuasive promotional website; due to its depth

and range of media features. Put side by side; the website for Mamma Mia similarly has

hyperlinks to face book, twitter etc to find out more about the movie. The trailer and also

videos of behind the scenes and making the movie which gives the audience feel they have

more access to the movie. As its part of the Universal Studio it has the links attached to the

main website which explains blu- ray etc as this is a big part in modern film production which

Mamma Mia is available on. 4.3.2.1 Doesn’t invite the audience to submit an e-mail address

unlike Mamma Mia. This website asks you to supply them with your e-mail address and the

country you live in. The purpose of this is so Universal Studios have direct contact with the

audience. So when new movies are about to be released they can use it to enhance their

marketing campaign on similar films or if they are within the target market.
