    Unidirectional Sphere Type

Smith MeterTM Bidirectional Provers are stationary orportable displacement-type meter proving devices. Whenconnected in series with a meter, the number of meter pulsesgenerated during the displacement of the prover-calibrated (wa-ter drawn) volume yields accurate meter factor.

FeaturesPrecisely Calibrated Volume - Traceable to NIST.Highly Compatible Materials of Construction - Foruse on a wide range of products.Unique Transfer Valve Design - It has only two mov-ing parts: the main valve and the transfer hemisphere.Local or Remote Control - Instrument duplication iseliminated.

    Principle of Operation

With the prover in the idle state, flow passes through themeter and through the prover. The spheroid is held in thereceiving chamber by the main prover valve. Whenproving is initiated, the main valve is opened. Thespheroid drops to the transfer hemisphere. With the mainvalve open, the transfer hemisphere blocks flow acrossthe main valve. After the main valve closes, the transferhemisphere releases the spheroid into the flow stream. As the spheroid passes the first detector switch, the meterprover counter (totalizer) is triggered to totalize meterpulses until the second detector switch is triggered. Thenumber of pulses accumulated on the prover counterwhile the spheroid moves between the detector switchesis compared to the calibrated volume of the proversection to obtain meter factor. After the spheroid passes

the second detector switch, it drops back into thereceiving chamber ready for another proving run.

CalibrationProver calibration is accomplished using water drawequipment and procedures in accordance with the APIManual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, Chap-ters 4 and 12 and volumetric measures that are trace-able to and certified by the National Institute of Stan-dards and Technology.Prover volume accuracy is certified within 0.02% per thepreceding standards.

    Water Draw System

Equipment Used: Various size test measures certified by NIST. Pump with capacity of 50 gpm. Water Sump. Three Hoses. Test Stand. One certified thermometer. Three standard thermometers. Two certified pressure gauges.

  • Applications

The Smith MeterTM Unidirectional Prover may be used tocalibrate positive displacement or turbine meters in virtu-ally any application including loading rack installations, pipelines, barge loading/unloading systems, etc. Theseprovers may be used on most liquid petroleum productssuch as LPG, gasolines, and crude oils which have vary-ing viscosities and lubricating qualities.
