It will be only any inhuman person who will not feel the pain of the family of the deceased police personnel who lost his life in Palhalan but at the same time police has no moral or legal right to punish the common masses just to give an outlet to its anger.” Stating that the state has to be governed by the rule of law, Rashid said, “no law permits any government to inflict terror on its people.” “How come life of a soldier who gets handsome salary can be more precious than that of a common man as right to live is the fundamental right of every human being on earth,” he said. Shaikh-Ul-Aalam (RA) International Cultural Centre in offing Condemns arrest of TeH activists Srinagar, Oct 20: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday accused the armed forces of turning Pal- halan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district into a “con- centration camp.” “Since last five years, the armed forces and Task Force have virtually converted Palhallan into a concentration camp and whenev- er anything untoward happens, the people in Palhallan are punished for none of their fault. The supply lines for water and electricity are snapped, and even they are not permitted to purchase food items for themselves nor they are allowed for farming or to look after their orchards,” Geelani said. Paying tributes to people of Palhallan for their devotion and conviction for Islam and freedom movement, Geelani said, “we are closely monitoring the situation and in no case would leave them alone.” “Hurriyat has decided that in case the curfew restric- tions are not lifted we will call a state wide protest against this. The suppressive mea- sures and continuous imposi- tion of curfew has developed a serious situation in Palhallan. Continuous imposition has created a tense situation in Palhalan,” he said demanding immediate lifting of curfew restrictions from the area. Geelani who is also chair- man of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) strongly condemned arrest of its activists and demanded their immediate release. “Since 2010, Palhallan is continuously being made target by armed forces and our workers are being harassed and arrested,” he said. He strongly condemned the detention of various TeH members including Abdul Gani Bhat, district president Baram- ulla and Amir Hamza secretary Department of Dawah He said Mir Hafiz Ullah, dis- trict president Islamabad, Muham- mad Shaban Dar, district President Kulgam and Muhammad Yousuf Falahi district President Shop- ian have also been “unlawfully detained. Geelani alleged that the resi- dences of Abdullah Nasir presi- dent, Tehsil Pattan and Showkat Ahmad (Kulgam) are continu- ously being raided, though they were recently released from jails. He said district president Kulgam is presently serving deten- tion in Kathua jail. “However his residence was raided by armed troops and his family members were harassed during the raid,” he said. He strongly condemned the alleged police excesses in Baram- ulla Commenting over the “continuous crackdown” against the party workers, Geelani termed it as “sheer frustration” of authorities. Home Ministry of India with its forces and police is trying to scare us of their might and arbitrary powers, and they wish that we should surrender and give up our struggle. They are living in a fool’s paradise. Such repressive measures won’t deter us from pursuing the freedom struggle,” Geelani said. “Tehreek-e-Hurriyat is not an underground organiza- tion, nor any of its activities are hidden from the public eye. By denying a political space, the authorities are playing a dangerous game,” he said. ALTAF BABA Baramulla, Oct 20: After continu- ous restrictions for past four days, life returned to normal in Palhallan area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Sunday. Authorities had enforced restrictions in the area after a police vehicle came under heavy stone pelting from a group of youth resulting in death of its driver last week. Deputy Com- missioner Baram- ulla Khawja Ghulam Ahmad visited the area on Sunday and interacted with the business community and senior citizens. Sources said the delegation urged the DC that the common people of the area should not be target- ed by enforcing strict restrictions. "If some youths are involved in stone pelting that does not mean that the entire population should be targeted. From the past four days, the locals are confined to their homes following the strict restrictions. Such restrictions only add to woes of the common people," the delegation told the DC. The DC said that the interaction was “aimed to restore the peace” in the area. “And the people of the area can play important role in this regard. There are some youth who are bent upon to disturb peace in the area by way of resorting to un-necessary stone pelting. The glaring example is the inci- dent on Eid, which left one cop dead" the DC told Greater Kash- mir.
