It give us great pleasure to launch the first

Region 1 Youth e-magazine and website entitled "Divine Whispers". These "Divine Whispers..." are just that, Whispers from the Divine to His

beloved Youth. Over the many weeks and months, the Editorial team have worked

tirelessly, to bring you this special e-magazine. We are very fortunate in Region 1 as we have a

gold mine of young talent. We are truly indebted to our Regional elders for giving us

their continual support and guidance in reaching new heights of leadership and character

development.

The goal and mission of this Youth e-magazine is to reach out to all our fellow Youth in

Region 1. Devotion to God, Service to Mankind and Character Development are the goals of this labour of love, as Swami has said that "Youth

alone can transform Youth."

At the 1st World Youth Conference Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba promised that,

"...I will do everything possible for the betterment of the young, for Youth are the

Golden Age." Therefore for refining society, Swami has chosen the Youth as his instruments

and ambassadors to take His sacred mission forward and to all corners of the globe. Youths carry Swami's hopes and aspirations for

the future. Indeed the future of the world rests upon the shoulders of our Youth and its

happiness in their hands.

I hope you enjoy these Divine Whispers; Whispers of Love, Whispers of

Reflection and Whispers of Guidance.

“There are two kinds of study: Inward looking and outward looking. The stuff that you learn by rote and disgorge into your answer paper is the outward looking study. On the other hand, taking your studies into your heart, feeling its fullness and experiencing its bliss is the inward looking study. These have been differentiated by the terms: Education and "Educare". Your aim should be for acquiring "Educare" and not mere education.” - Baba

Youth are NOT

Tomorrows Leaders… !!!!

Swami gave me the opportunity to work with youth over the last fifteen to sixteen years. Children who were seven, eight years of age during the time I became an active worker at Merton, are now grown into Young Adults/ Youth. Most of them are highly qualified with various expertises behind their names. Several of them are still very active in Sai Seva. Efforts of parents who spent their precious time to bring-up these children in Sai environment is now paying up. In Region 1, we now have nearly 70 active youth who are working with different projects. Spiritual, IT, Medical, Audio, Filming, and other professional knowledge are brought to a juncture through the efforts of these youngsters. It is about time these youngsters lead the Sai Organisation. They are not tomorrow’s leaders; they are today’s

leaders. If we are to ensure that there is continuity in the Sai Activities globally, then today’s organisation Heads must think seriously of handing over responsibilities to our youngsters today.

Tomorrow will be too late. I was able to experience the actual meaning of these words through the efforts of our Youth. When I plan projects my first concern used to be - Finance. Where do I get the money from for the project delivery? Do we need to employ any professional experts to

complement the scope of work? Do we need money for expenses etc? Recent experiences have shown that we have resources and expertise in every discipline from the youth team. Technologically and professionally, we are well ahead of other Voluntary Service Organisations. Recent projects have given me the strength to make decisions without making finance as the core element. Although finance is an essential element, our Youth have made me realise that any project with the right team and motivation will automatically bring all the essential elements necessary for completion in time. This unique condition is only possible in an environment of Love and Respect. Now when I plan projects, I do not worry about Finance. I confidently say, “Yes” to projects as we have a core Youth/Adult team who are positive contributors towards effective planning who always will make suggestions activate. Swami has given the Region, the right team of regional wing convenors, a strong youth team and some very supportive chairpersons. Together we always make successful decisions. Currently there are several youth projects in Region 1 co-ordinated by the youth. Internal or external projects are managed with high technical integrity. Adult integration is seen as experience sharing. Youth technological knowledge with adult experience is making some technical projects very successful. Sometimes better than the similar scope of work in business environment where several times more financial support was involved. The main motivators seem to be love and respect between adults and youth - results

of Sathya Sai Education. Values embedded into these youngsters through the programme are now resulting into action. Therefore, my personal belief is that Youth must be made Leaders of Centres/ Groups now. Regions must promote active Youth to take over. Traditional Chairpersons and other Family titleholders must respectfully nominate youngsters to take over responsibilities in Sai Centres. Youth must lead today. Tomorrow is too late. Sai Ram. Thank you Lord for dirty hands that touch my stove and fridge; for sticky little fingers that try to build a bridge. For careless hands that go astray In search of something new; for hands to hold and show the way as mothers often do. For precious little hands in which great faith so abounds; For silly little hands that reach to touch a mother's frown. And thank you for your guiding hand that leads me to the light; that lifts me when I stumble and points me to the right. As little hands reach out to me to show them what to do, I'm steadied, reassured and loved as I reach up to You. By Judith Peitsch

LLLLiving in a world full of jealousy, turmoil and hate I Smile, because I know that Swami’s standing by my side. When people lie, deceit or try to hurt me, I sometimes stand agape but, I Smile, because I know that Swami’s standing by my side. When obstacles come like torrents of rain, When there seem to be no solutions, No cures for my pain, I Smile, because I know that Swami’s standing by my side. BBBBut when I’m surrounded by negativity twenty – four hours each day Arguments, cursing, people who have gone astray And entangled in worldly issues which I’m forced to abide, Then it becomes difficult to concentrate or even to smile, And I forget that Swami’s standing by my side. SSSSo there I was at my lowest and ready to give in

When suddenly! My mind had gone blank! I was unable to think. FFFForgetting where I was and who I am A melodious tune began playing in my heart, ‘Don’t Quit! Remember, Swami’s standing by your side, I am with you all of the way’. WWWWith those words I wept in shame, For I forgot the power of Bhagawan Due to things that were mundane. BBBBut sure enough with those sweet words I was energized! My Faith in Swami was restored and retained, So gritting my teeth I raised my head and started again. NNNNow I am ready to climb any mountain To jump any hurdle that should stand in my way Of obtaining Moksha, For that alone I pray And I Smile, because I know that Swami’s standing by my side. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was born in London on April 21 1926, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, (subsequently King George VI and Queen Elizabeth). This was also the same Year our beloved Bhagavan who was born to Parents of Eshwarama and Peda Venkapa Raju.

Five weeks later, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was christened in the chapel of Buckingham Palace and was named Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. Her Majesty's coronation took place in Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953 after the death of her father.

Princess Elizabeth had her early education at home. After her father succeeded to the throne in 1936, she became heiress presumptive, and her

studies were extended to include lessons on constitutional history and law.

At a very young age, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s public engagements grew in number and frequency. This was also a main factor for Swami, as soon as he was manifesting his leelas of love, comfort and kindness towards people, the demand for Him to attend public engagements increased.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has proved to be highly adaptable and able monarch. Her reign has overseen great change in Britain and the world as a whole. Britain has surrendered its empire and granted independence to the countries it once ruled.

I was inspired to begin selfless service by quotes such as, “First you must grapple with the fact that duty is God and start doing your duty.” (Baba) Through the Sai organisation, I began getting involved in seva projects, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and still to today. Before I knew it, Swami had transformed and improved my life a hundred fold. I found my self-confidence soar to new heights, my ambition to accomplish tasks greater than ever before. It was as if Swami had upgraded my engine. After four years of being a Sai devotee, Swami graciously gave me the opportunity to visit him in 1999 for the first time. Words cannot express what I felt when I first saw Swami during Dharshan. For the first time in my life, I had seen God in human form. I was amazed. When Swami looked into my eyes, I felt him look straight through me. My soul felt that it had found its creator, its home. What bliss. This, I feel, is when my life really began. Within the first week after my return to London, through Swami’s grace, I began a new job earning more than ever before. Moreover, my supervisor was also a Sai devotee, and I enjoyed my work. From here on, both my career and academic development has improved. Both are due to Swami’s grace. Swami has showed me that, “Work is Worship.” (Baba). It is a sheer joy to know that because of Swami, I feel like a new person who has more to offer to society. I am a much calmer, focused, confident, ambitious and content person than six years ago. Swami’s one-to-one’s with me have been a gift to me. I count my blessings more so than ever before, and thank God for all he has done. Thank you and Sai Ram. Pepe Ghumra – Brixton Sai Centre

A: Once in an interview Swami asked me “who is your best friend?” to which I replied “You and only You” he proceeded to tell us all that that God should be your Best Friend. He gave one of his analogies, “In a dessert there is a tank filled with water, animals from far and wide come to drink water. However when there is no water in the tank, no animals come. Likewise, when you have money, name and fame, people will want to associate themselves with you so that they can get something from you, when you are down on your luck, no one wants to know you. You must make sure that you do not pick up their bad habits, I try and remember at all times that Swami is within everyone, therefore we should be loving and kind all the time. speech has never provoked agitation in others. This is a quality that is lacking in many of our leaders today. How do you do it? A: Gosh ! I am honoured you think so. As Swami’s Youth we should always be careful of our thoughts, words and deeds, as we should be setting an example for others to follow. We are Swami’s ambassadors and our actions will portray Swami’s name in the world. I try and see the good in all, sometimes it is difficult but I pray hard to Swami that he gives me the patience, love and understanding to work with difficult people. We should remember that none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes and we all belong to one Sai Family. Thank you Shitubhai for the taking the time to answer these questions.

Students! He who condemns himself day and night as petty and weak can never accomplish anything. He who thinks that he is luckless and low thereby becomes luckless and low. Instead, when you cultivate the awareness that you are a spark of God, that you have as your reality Divinity Itself, you can become really Divine, and you can have command over all powers. "As you feel, so you become" (Yad bhaavam, thad bhavathi). It is how you feel that matters most. That is the basis for all that you are. Have faith in the Atma, the Self. This is a must for man. In its absence, man is being reduced to a monster, revelling in vice and wickedness. Your forefathers achieved prosperity, peace and joy and succeeded in attaining their goals through that faith alone. When people lose that faith, they are certain to fall. For that faith is the very breath of life. When there is no breath, man becomes a corpse (Savam). With the breath of that faith, he becomes Divine (Sivam), the same as Siva Himself. Faith in the Self is the expression of the Siva Principle in man; that faith can endow man with all forms of power and render him full and complete (Poorna.) For the Atma, by its very nature, is self-sufficient and full. No other Sadhana is needed to realise that state.

Purity too is our nature; self-sufficiency (Paripoornathaa) is also the nature of the self. Impurity and insufficiency are alien to man. Students should not ignore or forget this fact. Real education must arouse this faith and infuse the awareness of this fullness in every activity. This is the essential aim, the core of the right type of education. There is one other truth that we have to keep in mind, more than every other. For Bharathiyas, religion means experience, nothing less. Our position is that no achievement is worthwhile unless one earns it by one's own efforts. Everything valuable must be cultivated by oneself. Divine Grace awaits individual striving and sadhana. The doctrines and directives of religion have to be assimilated by means of actual experience. It is not enough if one learns to repeat them parrot-like. The Truth has to be identified; this is the very first step. The sooner we understand the Truth the sooner will religious conflicts and credal dissensions disappear. The Paraath-para (Beyond the Beyond), the Omniself, is nearer than the nearest; other entities are all, though near, really far away. Become aware of this fact. Then alone can the knots in which the heart is entangled be loosened. http://www.askbaba.net/vidyavahini/vidya52.html

“Embodiments of Love! Young men and women! Future citizens of the world! When one's wealth is lost, it can be acquired again. If one friend is lost, another can be got. If the wife passes one can marry again. If land is lost, it can be acquired again. But if time is lost it cannot be got back. In this vast cosmos and among the myriad species, man is the highest and noblest being. He is sublime. He is full of good traits. If a man loses these attributes of humanness, they cannot be easily regained.”

7Love God, Love the World – Youth Conference, Prashanti - Nilayam

The Conference's theme was 'The Practice of arma. You see the parade of Nations and opening addresses Indulal Shah who asks "What is Youth" and expounds upon e Eternal Youth and asks for less organisation and more nsformation. Leslie Can speaks about the responsibility of uth. Swami, addressing the Youth, tells them that Time is not be wasted and that no one is using the gifts of God. He dwells upon the debts owed to society and says that gratitude should be expressed by giving selfless service. Amongst the many subjects covered, He asks that one works with the Spirit of Forgiveness and that one should destroy the Ego and work with Goodness in preference to seeking Greatness. The translation, filming and subtitles are excellent on this 90 minute video. This video tape was professionally recorded and edited using commercial equipment. As a result, the videos are some of the best images and sounds of Sathya Sai Baba ever seen.

The Early Years !!!!

A rare and powerful early film containing many historic moments in the Sai Story, and showing Swami at different ages in His life; striding briskly about in His 30s, radiating youth and beauty in His 40s as He

gives discourses. We see the famous Abishek miracle where He produces clouds of vibhuti from a small upturned vase, Swami presiding at the inauguration of the Anantapur College, a remarriage ceremony of Walter and Elsie Cowan (after Swami raised him from the dead in Madras) the housewarming ceremony of Diana Baskin and her fist husband Joel, Swami producing a mala and other holy objects from the Chitravathi sands at night. We hear the Story of Shirdi Sai with scenes of the shrine at Shirdi. We see the dedication of the Dharmakshetra building at Bombay, scenes from the early summer courses, the Birthday celebrations of 1964, a sacred thread ceremony and finally Baba producing two linghams from His throat at Mahashivaratri time in Prasanthi. Four films in one: 1) Advent of the Avatar, 2) The Endless Stream, 3) The Early Years, 4) Darshan (110 minutes)
