Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Princess Sophia, Countess of Wessex visited Havelock Road Gurdwara to personally hand over the license on Thursday 6 th December 2018. During the visit the Royal couple, paid their respects to Guru Sahib, helped in the Langar, watched a gatka demonstration and met the youngsters who will be taking part in the DoE scheme. Youngsters can now earn the award by learning Kirtan, Santhiya, doing seva and sports like Gatka. The full visit can be watched on the Gurdwara facbook page. PARK AVENUE LAND PURCHASE PUBLIC MEETING An Executive Committee meeting, open to all the Sangat and media was held on the 1 st of Dec at Havelock Road. In the meeting the General Secretary made all the legal documents, bank records, emails available for review in relation to the recent land purchases. Over 30 attendees came, and were able to understood the transactions and the need for the Gurdwara to purchase the land to secure the Sabha’s future at Park Avenue. If anyone was unable to attend, they are welcome to contact the General Secretary. We sincerely hope Maharaaj blesses us all with wisdom to work for the common good of our community. SHAHEEDI SMAGAM During the month of Poh, we remember the sacrifices of the Chaar Sahibzade and the countless Sikhs in Anandpur Sahib and Chamkaur Sahib. Smagams and programs were held at both Gurdwaras. A film showing of the Chaar Sahibzade was held at SGSSS Park Avenue attended by hundreds of families. At SGSSS Havelock Road a week long Simran Smagam was held, with an Akhand Path completed by the Punjabi School children. The Smagams were attended by Panth Parsid Raagi, Kavishari, Dhadi Jathe and Kathavachaks such as Giani Sukhdev Singh (Head Katha Vachak from Sri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib), Bhai Sarabjit Singh Laddi (Hazoori Raagi Darbar Sahib) Bhai Sahib Singh Ji (Hazoori Raagi Darbar Sahib), Giani Jaswant Singh Ji (Kathavachak Manji Sahib, Amritsar). A new Sahibzade exhibition has been permanently installed at SGSSS Park Avenue Gurdwara. SHAHEEDI OF SRI GURU TEGH BAHADHUR SAHIB JI On 12 th of Dec we marked the Shaheedi of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, who sacrificed themselves for the Hindu faith. Our 9 th master was a true believer in human rights and freedom of religion. Kirtan Smagam took place at SGSSS Park Avenue by Bhai Gurkirat Singh Ji (Hazoori Raagi Sri Darbar Sahib) and Bhai Kamaljit Singh Ji (Hazoori Raagi Sri Darbar Sahib).

SHAHEEDI OF KARTAR SINGH SARABHA

On the 9th of Dec we remembered the Shaheedi of Kartar Singh Sarabha. Kartar Singh Sarabha was a Sikh revolutionary who was among the most famous and reputed martyrs of Punjab.

He was 17 years old when he became a member of Ghadar Party, then came up as a leading luminary member and started the fight for an independent India. He was one of the most active members of the movement. He returned to India in 1914 to fight for India’s independence. On November 16th, 1915, Kartar Singh Sarabha was hanged at the tender age of 19.

SGSSS SANGEET CENTRE CAMP

SGSSS Sangeet Centre children from age 3 to 16 years old participated in a one day camp at SGSSS Havelock Road 24th December 2018. The theme of the camp was related to the Shaheedi of the Chaar Sahibzadeh the children took part in Gurbani Jaaps, Kirtan, speeches, poetry, quizzes and arts and crafts related to the Shaheedi of the Chaar Sahibzadeh. All attendees were presented with gifts and winners of the speech and poetry were presented with prizes.

SGSSS Sangeet Centre camp was organised by Guneet Kaur Matta and in the future we will be organising more camps for our children and parents.

NEW YEARS

Like all years, thousands of Sangta saw the start of the new year at SGSSS Park Ave and Havelock Road. Kirtan Diwans were held till midnight.

The Sikh New Year begins on 14th of March 2019 where we will be celebrating the beginning of the month of ‘Cheth’.

NEW SCREENS

Wi-Fi has now been installed in Havelock Road Gurdwara, which has enabled new projectors and screens to be installed. The system will provide a better experience to Sangat who visit SGSSS Havelock Road Gurdwara.

The live broadcast system has been restarted at Park Avenue Gurdwara, follow us on YouTube to watch all the programs live.

Sevadars were working through the nights to get wifi installed in the Gurdwara and new projector system.
