Make sure ...

• TV/VCR power must be turned on.• Confirm that the antenna connections are correct.

• The cable convener box must be turned on if yourTV/VCR is connected directly to it. (See NOTES:)

• The channel is properly set in advance.

NOTES:

• Auto clock setting only needs to be set once. But itcan be done again if the clock's time has becomeincorrect for some reason.

• If the TV/VCR is connected directly to a cableconvener box or satellite box, the local PBS stationmust be selected on the cable box itself, and the

TV/VCR must be set to the output channel of thecable convener box or satellite box (usually chan-nel 3 or 4), to be able to set up or correct the clockautomatically.

If you do not know what your local PBS station is,then follow "Manual Clock Settings".The TV/VCR cannot control the channels of thecable convener box or satellite box.

CLOSED CAPTION PROBLEM

My TV/VCR is showing captionsthat are misspelled.

My TV/VCR will not show ihe textin its entirety or there is a delay ofwhat is being said.

My captions are scrambled withwhite boxes on the 'IV screen.

My program guide listed a TV showas being closed captioned but noneof the captions were displayed.

My prerecorded video tape does notshow any captions. The tape boxmentions it being closed captioned. My TV screen shows a black boxon certain channels.

POSSIBLE REMEDY

• You are watching a live broadcast and spelling errors made by the Iclosed captioning production company may pass through uncorrected.A prerecorded program will not show any misspelled words becauseof the normal time available for editing the captions.

i • Captions that are delayed a few seconds behind the actual dialogueare common for live broadcast. Most captioning production companiescan display a dialogue to a maximum of 220 words per minute. If adialogue exceeds that rate, selective editing is used to insure that thecaptions remain up-to-date with the current TV screen dialogue.

• Interference caused by building, power lines, thunderstorms, etc.may cause scrambled or incomplete captions to appear.

• Broadcasters may at times use a time compression process to speedup the actual program so that additional advertising time can begiven. Since the decoder cannot read the compressed information, captions will be lost.

• The video tape was either an illegal copy or the tape duplicatingcompany accidentally left out the captioning signals during thecopying process.

• You are in the TEXT mode. Select CAPTION mode to CAPTION[OFF].
