Good afternoon and welcome to The Royal British Legion Sta-

dium for this afternoons league clash against AFC Liverpool.

First all may I welcome AFC Liverpool’s management team

and all associated with the club. I hope you feel welcomed and have a safe journey

home.

Today will be the 4th time we’ll have met AFC Liverpool this season and so far the

previous 3 encounters have all been entertaining ones. Both sides were involved in

cup fixtures midweek with ourselves putting in a below par performance against

Glossop but Liverpool having a fantastic win against neighbours Bootle. We will be

looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s result with a positive performance. We have

12 games left this season and we are wanting to finish as strong as possible so that

we finish as high as possible in the league. We’ve got lots of points to play for and

some really entertaining fixtures ahead that everyone should be looking forward to.

We know from our previous encounters that AFC Liverpool are one of the best foot-

balling sides in this division and a team who I have plenty of respect for. They play

very attractive football and are one of the best passing sides I have seen in a long

time at this level of football.

I hope you enjoy the game and visit us again for our next home fixture….

NEXT HOME GAME

In our next home game at The Royal British Legion Stadium, we

host the league leaders in the first meeting between the two

sides this season. So make sure you come down for this top of

the table clash, which should be a very entertaining game. Can

you think of a better way to spend a Saturday?

BACUP & ROSSENDALE

GATE TAKE ALL THREE POINTS FROM BATTLING BACUP Squires Gate hosted Bacup & Rossendale Borough on Saturday afternoon, look-

ing to bounce back from their loss to Glossop two weeks ago. Gate came into the

game on the back of a week's rest after their away tie at Abbey Hey fell foul of the

weather last Saturday. Gate made one change to the team that lost vs Glossop

with Billy McKenna starting in place of Sean Holmes, who dropped to the bench.

It was Bacup who made the better start to the game, the team bottom of the

league looked on top early on, It took Gate a good ten minutes to get into the

game after looking sloppy and lack lustre early on. Gate's first chance fell when

Billy McKenna made a clever run to get in behind and was found by Harry Dunn,

but Mckenna's shot was poor and straight at the goal keeper. Gate's next chanc-

es was a carbon copy of the first but this time nobody could get on the end of

Alex McKendrick's cross back into the box. Bacup had a golden chance to open

the scoring shortly after, a quick freekick catching Gate napping but keeper Ben

Fletcher came to the rescue showing quick reflexes to keep the game level.

Bacup fought in the game though and didn't look like a relegation threatened

team. They made it very hard for Gate to play and had their own chances to win

the game. Harry Dunn had the last chance of the first half. From the goal kick he

took the ball down on his chest before

shooting first time but his shot went

over the bar.

Half Time: Squires Gate 0-0 Bacup &

Rossendale Borough.

Page 5: Squires Gate Vs AFC Liverpool

The second half provided a change of fortunes for

Gate, clearly the half time team talk worked, moti-

vating and encouraging Gate to improve in the sec-

ond half. Gate pilled on the pressure and it took until

the 55th minute for them to open the scoring. Billy

McKenna with a tame shot which somehow snuck in

at the near post, Bacup's goalkeeper will have to

take the blame for this one, he seemingly thought

the ball was going wide only to see it sneak past the

post. Gate showed incredible patience and concen-

tration after going one up and showed how to de-

fend a lead. Bacup had several chances to find an

equaliser but a combination of poor finishing and

good defending from the home teams defence allowed Gate to maintain their lead.

Gate also had their chances many of which saw them in 3 vs. 2 situations.

But Gate's front three of Buchan, Murphy and Dunn didn't have their scoring boots on

and struggled to finish easy chances. Gate's second of the game would come from two

of their substitutes Robbie Bromley finding the ball on the left hand side before driving

forward at the Bacup defence. His ball across the box found fellow sub Brett Ferguson

who's scuffed shot found its way into the bottom corner. The 2-0 win makes it 13 clean

sheets for Gate and gets them back on what is hopefully a winning run.

After the game Gate manager Dave McCann said: It was a very pleasing result. We

weren't at our best especially in the first 15 minutes but we eventually worked our way

into the game and got the result we deserved. Bacup caused us problems and could

have had a couple of goals if their finishing was better but I can say the same about us,

we could have been more clinical in front of goal. Games like today are never easy but

overall I was more than happy with the 3 points today.

SO NEAR BUT YET SO FAR AS GATE CRASH OUT THE CUP

Squires Gates hopes of cup success were crushed at the hands of Glossop

North End after a second half mauling.

Gate made one change to the team with Robbie Bromley starting up front in

place of Mark Buchan. Gate had the weekend off with no game this weekend.

Glossop on the other hand faced Dunston in the cup. The game went to extra

time after normal time ended 2-2.

It was the home side who had the first chance of the game the ball slipping un-

der Danny Penswicks foot before Ben Fletcher rescued his keeper in the one

on one situation. It was a frustrating first half for Gate who found themselves in

all the right places but looked for the pass instead of getting the shot away.

There wasn't much difference between the two sides with both having chances

to break the deadlock. Harry Dunn turned provider on the half hour but his ball

across the box couldn't find a Gate man. Gate struggled to clear the ball to-

wards the end of the first half and Sam Grimshaw found himself through on

goal to open the scoring. Gate will have been disappointed to have conceded

in the manner they did having matched there hosts up until that point.

HALF TIME Glossop 1-0 Squires Gate

Page 11: Squires Gate Vs AFC Liverpool

It would be fair to say that Gate col-

lapsed in the second half and came out

looking a completely different team.

More poor defending allowed Jason

Carey to tap in at the back post after the

ball was fired across the middle of the

box. Gate made it even more difficult for

them selves soon after, Danny Penswick

judged to have bought the last man

down inside the box, the result being a

sending off and a penalty to the home

side. Jason Carey stepped up from the

spot to put the home side 3-0 up and looking comfortable. Glossop had a cou-

ple of chances late on but Fletcher kept the score line respectable. The game

ended 3-0 to the home side and sees them through to the semi finals.

This result is a disappointing one for Gate but allows them to concentrate back

on the league. There next game comes at home to AFC Liverpool on Saturday.

NWCFL NEWSLETTER The weekend saw our clubs in both cup and league action, and not surprisingly the sea-

son's biggest crowd of 651 turned up at Surrey Street, for the FA Carlsberg Vase 5th

Round tie between Glossop North End and Dunston UTS.

The game ended tied at 2-2 after extra time, with Jason Carey and Tom Bailey on target

for the Hillmen, who now face a trip up to Gateshead for the replay next Saturday.

Six clubs were also in action in The Men United Cup Quarter Finals, with the away side

emerging victorious on each occasion while at the same time keeping a clean sheet.

Two goals from Josh Hamilton and one from Kieran Carraghan saw Bootle through to a 3

-0 win at West Didsbury & Chorlton, and the other two games both ended 2-0.

Extra time goals from Chris Thomson and Mark Keddie ensured victory for Runcorn

Town at AFC Liverpool, and after a Mark Ayres goal gave Atherton Collieries the lead on

the hour, an own goal sealed a first ever win for Cols at Colne.

In the Premier Division, with Glossop in FA Vase action, Runcorn Linnets extended their

lead at the top of the table to 18 points with a 2-0 win over Silsden, Freddie Potter and

Michael White on target in the opening 21 minutes.

Ashton Athletic remain in third place after a 1-1 draw at home to fourth placed 1874

Northwich. Michael Brandon gave 1874 the lead with 20 minutes to go, but Isaac

Kusaloska grabbed a last gasp equaliser for the Yellows.

Congleton Town were the day's highest scorers, with five different players getting on the

scoresheet in a 6-2 win at home to Maine Road

A first half goal from Danny Egan gave Winsford United a 1-0 win over Nelson,

Abbey Hey pulled further away from the relegation zone with a 3-0 win at Alsager Town,

and at the bottom end of the table, there were welcome wins for Barnoldswick Town and

Bacup & Rossendale Borough.

A hat trick from Thomas Henderson was the highlight of Barlick's 4-1 win over St Helens

Town, and two goals from Dom Marie gave Bacup & Rossendale Borough a very wel-

The League Management Committee can now issue a further statement with re-

gard to Stockport Sports.

The Club has failed to fulfil fixtures on three separate occasions this season,

which is in breach of League Rule 8.6 which states:

“Any Club without just cause, failing to fulfil an engagement to play a Competi-

tion match on the appointed date shall for each offence be liable to expulsion

from the Competition and/or such other disciplinary action the Board may deter-

mine".

The Club have also failed to comply with League Rule 2.3.1 by failing to comply

with the Management Committee instructions regarding confirmed notification

of venues for their remaining home fixtures by the 24th January 2015 deadline.

The Club had been notified of the implementation of League Rule 4.6, whereby

they would not be allowed to play or take part in the competition until the expiry

of 7 days from the day this instruction was complied with.

The Club also has considerable outstanding debt to the League, and have not

complied with the instruction issued on 29th January 2015, when they were

made aware of the requirement to settle the debt in full within 14 days.

Having sought confirmation from The Football Association of the procedure to

be adopted in these circumstances, the League Secretary has now issued 14

days notice to all member clubs that an Extraordinary General Meeting will be

held on Monday March 2nd 2015.

The agenda for the meeting is: "To expel Stockport Sports F.C. from membership

of the North West Counties Football League".

In the event that that member clubs vote in favour of Stockport Sports being ex-

pelled, their playing record will be expunged.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS v AFC LIVERPOOL

Tuesday 27th August 2013

Squires Gate 1-1 AFC Liverpool

The visitors went into the game on the back of an 8-0 win against

Wigan Robin Park the week before. The reds came into the

game full of confidence but surprisingly it was Squires Gate who

opened the scoring as Max Landless chipped the keeper and

then tapped in on 29 minutes. On the hour mark, it was level as

Paul Brown made it 1-1. It was a great result for the hosts but the

visitors must have felt it was points dropped.

Wednesday 19th March 2014

AFC Liverpool 2-1 Squires Gate

Another close game between the sides, as Gate will feel

they deserved a point from this game. During the first half,

the visitors were riding their luck, but managed to see the

game through to half time without conceding. After 63

minutes, AFC Liverpool took the lead as Neville Pickton

scored from 30 yards out and then the game could have

gone either way until the sucker punch on the 89th minute

when the reds doubled their lead. Gate were awarded for all

their pressure in stoppage time as Daniel Penswick netted

when the home side couldn’t clear.

Saturday 24th January 2015

AFC Liverpool 0-0 Squires Gate

In this top of the table clash, it was the third meeting be-

tween both sides having met in the vase and cup already. In

what was hyped up to be a very entertaining game, it was

the away side who had the first chance on the 15th minute

when Dunn’s cross from the left found Alex Murphy at the

back post but his header didn’t test the keeper. There were

many chances for both side but neither side could break the

deadlock, and the result reflected on why both sides were in

the top 6.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides this season, as the records are

equal, winning one each and drawing the other.

Page 26: Squires Gate Vs AFC Liverpool

AFC Liverpool was formed in 2008, by Liverpool FC fans, who had becoming increasingly frustrated at the cost and difficulty in

obtaining tickets for the Premiership. The supposed ‘39th game’ in which Premier League fixtures would be played in differ-

ent parts of the world proved to be the final straw, highlighting that top flight football is now more concerned about money

than its fans.

A website was created and, with the response being positive, work began to move to the next stage and create a steering

group to make the club a reality.

At the beginning of March 2008 AFC Liverpool was officially formed and it was made clear that the club was not in any way a

response to the ownership issue at Anfield or a protest against Liverpool Football Club, more a reaction to issues at the top

end of football in general.

By May, AFC Liverpool had appointed its first manager in Derek Goulding. The following month the club arranged a ground-

share with Prescot Cables and had been accepted into the North West Counties Football League.

The club’s first game was a 1-1 draw in a friendly with St Helens Town on 16th July 2008 and they began their inaugural

league season extremely well, beating Darwen 5-0 in their first competitive game and going on a run of ten wins in the first

eleven games.

However they failed to keep this momentum going, and the club eventually finished fourth in the league. The season did

prove fruitful though as a victory in the final of the First Division Trophy over Padiham at Ashton Athletic provided the club’s

first piece of silverware.

2009/10 began with three successive victories but after this the season became very indifferent. After a 5-2 home defeat to

Atherton Collieries on Easter Monday, Derek Goulding left the club and ex assistant and goalkeeping coach Paul Moore was

appointed caretaker Manager.

Under Moore’s stewardship AFC had a strong end to the 2009/10 campaign, winning five out of their last seven league games

to climb to fifth in the league and also retaining the First Division Trophy, coming from behind to beat Cheadle Town 2-1 in

the final at Flixton. In doing so, AFC Liverpool became the first club not only to win the Trophy twice but also successfully

defend it.

2010/11 also began in promising fashion with the Reds going on a ten game unbeaten run after an opening day loss at AFC

Darwen. However despite amassing their highest ever points total promotion never looked probable due to the form of

would be Champions AFC Blackpool and second placed Runcorn Town, resulting in a fourth placed finish, missing out on third

by goal difference.

There was disappointment too in the First Division Trophy when they reached the final for a third consecutive time only to

lose to Atherton Collieries 3-2 in extra time. In the FA Vase, steady progress was made to the third round, where their dreams

of Wembley were dashed by a defeat at Whitley Bay, who would go on to claim a third successive triumph.

However at the League AGM in July 2011 there was a surprise when Rossendale were expelled from the league and Formby

were demoted to the First Division. Holker Old Boys, who finished third on goal difference, declined an invitation to take up a

place in the Premier Division, meaning that AFC Liverpool were invited to take the place and the club accepted the chance

that was offered to them.

The 2011/12 season started badly in terms of results but not performances for AFC Liverpool as they had to wait until No-

vember for their first League victory, which came about in the form of a 7-0 demolition of Winsford United

From that point, AFC Liverpool, who had been rooted to the foot of the table, began the steady climb out of danger, ulti-

mately finishing in nineteenth place, sixteen points clear of the relegation places.

2012/13 saw AFC Liverpool consolidate their position in the North West Counties Premier Division with an eleventh placed

finish, accumulating sixty points in the process. As the season progressed, manager Paul Moore built a core squad of players,

which played some of the most exciting, attractive football in the league and post Christmas, won fifteen and drew five of

twenty eight games, including a defeat of eventual Premier Division champions Padiham on their home patch.

The performances were rewarded in the final game of the season as the Reds beat recently crowned champions of the Evo-

Stik NPL First Division North, Skelmersdale United, 3-0 in the Liverpool Senior Cup semi final to book an all North West Coun-

ties clash with Bootle in the final.

Last season the Reds started the campaign at a pace, topping the early tables. They fell just short of being the youngest club

to claim the Liverpool Senior Cup, losing the final on penalties, and remained among the league's pacesetters until November

and December when six points taken from eight games saw them drop away. Paul Moore's side remained consistent post

Christmas though and the club eventually achieved their highest league finish, ending up seventh with a total of seventy

point
