3. The second 6 months of the 2020 year (Jul - Dec) will be due on 10th Sep 2020and will expire on 10th March 2021.
Due to COVID-19 forced closures this year players have missed out on severalweeks of their affiliation playing benefits and so the Board has decided to roll overthis year's affiliations into next year. Whether you have already paid affiliation thisyear or have still to pay for it, the following changes apply:
4. Seasonal affiliation fees are still being discussed and will depend on the fixturesseason in your region. More to come on that in the next few weeks.
2. The 2020 (Jan - June) 6 month affiliation plan now expires on 10th Sep 2020,instead of the original 30th June 2020 expiry.
5. We have introduced a remote player affiliation option, this is a discountedaffiliation option for players who play at a location that is at least 300kms from theEastern Sea Board. We hope that this encourages players from remote areas in QLDto also affiliate and be covered by player insurance.6. A monthly affiliation option is also available (at $10 per month excl. GST)
1. The 2020 12 month player affiliation now expires on March 10th 2021, instead ofthe original 31st Dec 2020 expiry date.

The Squash Queensland Board and Colette Sultana in particular have been very busy in the lock
down period. Two important initiatives that have been established are the junior region
representative meetings and the court owner/managers/club meetings. Both have been
fantastic meetings to have information flowing in both directions between the Squash
Queensland Board and the people doing the hard yards in the clubs and centres.
Colette Sultana has been instrumental getting information flowing and I dare say instrumental
in arranging the meetings. It was also great to have the Squash Queensland President Jonathan
James in the meetings.

REPRESENTATIVE SQUASH
It seems we can expect some changes in Queensland in the coming years. I have heard some
great ideas to support grass roots squash, such as having Queensland's most accomplished
players who are now coaches providing support to other coaches to establish and support
development of squash across Queensland.
NR JUNIOR TOURNAMENTS
Squash Queensland also announced they will be working with Squash Australia on a national &
state promotion and media campaign and they are looking for volunteers. If anyone is
interested in volunteering some assistance with manning the QLD social media pages or have
other skills in promotion and media please contact Colette Sultana.
At the other end of the spectrum I have also heard of an idea to develop a Queensland elite
junior squad that would be supported to travel interstate and internationally. I've heard about
plans to seek sponsorships and the importance of chasing grants has also been highlighted.
The 2020 Trans-Tasman Test Match is set to be held at Cararra on the Gold Coast in December.
The team has not yet been selected.
All this is very positive and exciting news.

Affiliation is compulsory for all juniors to compete in the NR Junior tournaments and in the
State and National Championships. Juniors must have full affiliation to play for the Northern
Redbacks. Affiliation status will be checked prior to all 2020 season NR Junior tournaments and
the Queensland Junior Championships.
QLD JUNIOR RANKINGS
Affiliation fees: $73 for a full 1 year; or $44 for seasonal (6 months).
Getting organised for the 2021 QJC is a very big job. We are currently designing the
championship shirt and it will be made available on SportyHQ. We are also seeking sponsors.
I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who is proficient with social media and would like to
take charge of this for the QJC? Please think about how you can help and please contact me
immediately with your ideas.
seedings according to the QLD seedings list, setting the draws, match scheduling and being at
the championships to run the individual and team events.
Please remember affiliation comes with all sorts of benefits – especially personal insurance
with participating in the game or related activity, such as fundraising.
The State junior rankings and associated combined seedings will be relied upon by the
Northern Region tournament hosts to set draws. Timely appeals will be essential. The appeal
process in the policy provides for an internal review (like the old policy to give the rankers a
chance to affirm or change their mind), and if the appellant remains aggrieved by that review
decision, the appeal must be decided by an independent decision maker.
AFFILIATION WITH Q SQUASH
Since January 2020, the QLD Junior rankings have been updated by the Q Squash
Administrator. So far this is working very well and reducing the burden on the NR to apply the
actual ranking policy after junior tournaments. We have had no tournaments and therefore no
updates to the rankings.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions Queensland Squash has extended the 2020 affiliation
periods.
Please note players living in Mackay, Townsville, Ingham and Cairns and all areas in between
along the coast are not considered remote and do not qualify for the Remote Member
Registration.

Cairns Squash will again apply for a grant with the Cairns Regional Council for $13 000 for the

Additional item is Bi-Law Number 28.

Help is required to identify suitable grants and applications to be written. There are many
things that can be purchased with grant funding and this money can make a big difference to
the NR. I'd like grant applications to run coaching clinics, purchase equipment and uniforms
etc. However, if you have any ideas or you can help with identifying grants and writing
applications please contact me.
The next meeting is to be held at the 2020 Smithfield Dental Cairns NR Junior Closed

Squash Queensland have announced they are currently trialling Club Locker which is an
internet based program that provides similar functions to SportyHQ. This trial is to understand
which system, Club Locker or SportyHQ is the more suited to everyone's needs.
I have been wondering if we have any young players or anyone in the NR considering hitting
the court in the capacity as a coach. If anyone is interested to do their Level 1 In coaching
please let me know so we can support your development.

DEVELOPMENT
Introducing new juniors to squash is not aboutadopting one particular strategy but a goodstrategy can work.
Cairns Squash has been doing a great deal ofwork in many areas and no one particularstrategy has brought in an influx of juniors, instead we keep plodding away at all methodsof raising awareness of squash in Cairns andthis seems to be paying dividends.
Cairns Biggest Sign on: a fun demonstrationand participation by kids and flyers handed outalong with a monitor playing squashconstantly.
Bunnings BBQ: Not only a great fundraiserbut also a great marketing tool for Squash.
Cairns Festival Parade: 1000 Brochureshanded out to young children with a signwritten car and 30 players following behind.
CAIRNS JUNIORS
Northern Region Squash BACKSRED
All these things do add up, stimulatediscussion, create awareness and haveparents signing their kids up to come and trysquash.
Social Media: Posting results and activitiesdisplayed on Cairns Facebook Page andInstagram
The most important thing once you have “gotthem to the courts” make sure that there is afun program that the kids are introduced to and
PSA Tournament: Not only is this a fabulousspectacle for all those that attend we get hugemedia exposure in newspapers and on the TVnews, so valuable for putting squash intopeoples homes.
Cazaly's Raffle: Similar to Bunnings butselling tickets to all members on a Friday nightbringing in not only valuable fundraising dollarsbut also giving us great exposure.
