THANKS
We would like to thank all the Dancers both Class and Club Level who participated in the Dance for the benefit of the Friends of the Handicapped. It was held at North Penn High School on Sunday, March 16. The proceeds from this amounted to almost $1,100. This amount will be matched by a Foundation. Our Special Thank You to all the Callers and Cuers who donate their time — without their help this would be impossible. Also to our very capable Co-Chairmen, Ken and Marie Hartley and Gary and Nancy Strouse. Their help was invaluable.
This money will be used by the Friends of the Handicapped to purchase a special wheelchair for a little boy — these chairs are prescription and cost about $800. Our plans for next year are to hold this dance at Souderton High School where they have two separate gyms on different levels -wooden floors, too. The date is tentatively set for March 29, 1981. Further details will be forthcoming. Thanks everyone.
Dot and Cliff Kehrle

CHAIRMAN'S CORNER
As we write this the snow lays on the ground, but as you read it the flowers are blooming and summer is around the corner. Behind us is the very successful "Dance for the Handicapped", capably chaired by Cliff and Dot Kehrle with Ken and Marie Hartley and Gary and Nancy Strouse as assistants. This was our most successful and we look forward to next year with anticipation. The Federation has held elections with the same officers that guided us thru 1979 repeating for 1980 and we wish them our best and feel assured they will continue with the super job they have been doing.
We look forward to the summer dances June 1st — July 13th — August 1st and the summer picnic August 10th with fellowship for all. This is the most important time for our new graduates to be welcomed into our clubs and urged to continue their dancing. Many of us will be vacationing and camping at many varied locations where we may be dancing and enjoying ourselves. Please keep your clubs and district in mind as you meet new friends and perhaps learn new innovations that could help us to better our dancing world
Many of us at times are notcompletely happy with situations at club, district and
federation functions. Your constructive criticism is welcomed surely, however one does not like to hear strictly negative comments without any offer of a solution. There is not any monetary compensation for any of the work people do and many times they only receive the "bitters" and not much of the "sweets". The few words "great dance" or "we enjoyed ourselves" go a long way at the end of an affair when folks are tired after knocking themselves out trying to please you.
The Editors of this publication are still awaiting their first letter from our members with articles to be shared, ideas, suggestions or offers of help. This publication is meant to inform and help you as our members, and we feel that there are many good ideas and many helping hands, that if put into action could be enjoyed by many.
Due to the inactivity of the computer we do not have a more recent Special

NEW DISTRICT OFFICERS
We are happy to have former officers back as part of our District Staff. Naturally we are referring to Bill and Erma Molin — they are returning as second Vice Chairmen. They did a great job as Treasurers and we're sure they will keep up their fine reputation.
NEW MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMEN
Now that the Breischs and Poultons have assumed the duties of Housing for the 1981 Square Dance Convention they asked off their present duties. Therefore we have super replacements for them. Ken and Marie Hartley along with Bob and Dolores Watkins will take care of membership. Best Wishes to all of you and Thanks
Breischs and Poultons for your great job.
Keep This Date Quaker 8's have already made
the arrangements for their Dinner Dance for 1981. It will be April 11, 1981
and will be at Milford Fire Hall.
CHAIRMAN'S CORNER CONT.
Events listing that was published in our last issue. We hope to have an up to date one for our next issue. There have been approximately ten new items listed by our district for 1980 and 1981.
One of our district clubs, the "Cull Q's" of Emmaus, has a unique idea for clubs with temporary monetary problems. Their members are loaning the club, interest free, money to continue operations over the slow season. For further information on this novel idea you can contact their presidents Rick and Penny Reichenbach.
Bill and Sylvia Belam
March Weekend (March 21, 22, and 23rd) 8+ squares spent the weekend at the Holiday Inn in Bartonsville, Pa., for the first March Weekend, hosted by the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Bachelors 'N' Bachelorettes. Ted Knauss was on squares, with Mary and Pete McGee on Rounds. Visitors came as far away as the state of Conn., Gettysburg and York, Pa. as well as friends from our home area clubs.
A special visitor on Sunday apparently did not get the message regarding "appropriate square dance attire". How about it Jake?
Thank you for support given to us to make this weekend the huge success it was. We hope everyone is planning to be with us again for the fourth weekend of March 1981. Mark it on your calendar, March 27, 28, and 29, 1981.
Jane Younkin, Lewis Jewell, Pat Sandt and L. Richard Woodyatt (General Chairman).

The rest of the afternoon was spent enjoying a delightful Fox Trot clinic, conducted by Joyce and Rick McGlynn. At our next meeting we will have a Disco Clinic taught by George and Elaine Potts. Our business meetings are very informative and should be of interest to all round dancers. During our dance program everyone is invited to join in the dances that are shown and cued, and we are very fortunate to have top round dance leaders conducting our workshops and clinics. Delaware Valley Dancers don't miss this wonderful opportunity to express your views, find out what's happening in the Round Dance circles and learn and benefit from our own Delaware Valley leaders. ROUND THE SQUARES CONT.
Grand Spin Squares invite new graduates, dropouts and experienced dancers to join them for workshops on Monday evenings, May through August.
Tic Toc Rounds will hold their Annual Club Dinner at Beaver House, Stroudsburg on May 9th at 7 p.m.
The Strollers' Anniversary Dance with. Mary Lindner of California had to be postponed until Saturday, May 24, because Lindner suffered a mild concussion in an accident several days before the previously set March 1 date. The afternoon workshop and evening dance will attract 26 squares. The special tribute to the Spanglers, who cue the rounds for the Strollers, was moved up to April 18. Sam Procopio's special tribute was "fan badges" which have attracted more than 50 prior to the dance.
Schuylkill Promenades would like to wish each Mother and Father a Happy Mothers and Fathers Day respectively. Jody Gervel also tells a contingent of 21 people stole the Banner from the Swing-Thru Club of Lititz in January.
Quaker 8's will have a Covered Dish on June 21st at St. Isadore's School. This will start at 7 p.m. with workshop from 8 to 8:30 and dancing to follow from 8 to 11 p.m.
T-Bow Twirlers are having Alan Ingram and Mary McGee as a Ticket Dance on May 10th. The tickets are limited so hurry if you are interested.
Plymouth Rounders will not be dancing during May and June so Elaine Potts tells us.
Yellow Rockers will be camping at Applachian Campground on May 16-17 and 18. They also have a Camping Weekend at Otter Lake on June 13-14 and 15.

ROUNDALAB
One hundred and forty Round Dance Leaders from twenty three states and two Canadian Provinces met in San Diego, California last October for the annual ROUNDALAB (The International Asso-ciation of Round Dance Teachers, Inc.) Convention. There was a strong feeling of togetherness and purpose as leaders with diversified backgrounds and experience gathered together for the betterment of the entire profession. A recommended cue sheet format was adopted for a one year trial period. Phases One and Two of Round Dancing were readied for presentation to the Callerlab Convention in March. Other Phases — Three, Four, Five and Six, were explored and tentatively established. Various types of an Education Program were demonstrated and discussed. An Educational Committee was established.
Wayne Wylie who has served as the Roundalab Chairman since its inception was awarded a certificate from Bob Osgood of the American Square Dance
Society in recognition of "services rendered to Square Dancing as Chairman of the International Association of Round Dance Teachers". Jack Chaffee of Arizona was elected chairman. Also serving on the Board of Directors are Bruce and Roberta Bird (KS), Edith Capon (TN), Darlene Chaffee (AZ), Iry and Betty Easterday (MD), Dave and Shirley Fleck (OH), Hermon and Betty Lorritsma (CA), Frank and Ruth Lanning (KS), Clancy and Betty Mueller (IN) ), Bud and Shirley Parrott (OR), Corky and Paulette Pell (TX), Charlie and Bettye Proctor (TX), Doc and Peg Tirrell (NJ), and Wayne and Norma Wylie (AZ). Charlie Capon is the Executive Secretary. The fourth annual meeting of Roundalab will be in Philadelphia, Pa_, October 26 thru 28, 1980.
Doc and Peg Tirrell
Federation Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 8th at the Sheraton in

SQUARE DANCING NATIONAL FOLK DANCE
WE HAVE AN IDEA WE NEED YOUR HELP
WHY?
We want Square Dancing to be Our National Folk Dance and our Congress will not act unless we show the "Dancer Power" Plan.
On Saturday night, June 28, 1980, our goal is to have "besides the 29th National at Memphis" a MINI National Square Dance in every Congressional District in every State. We will call these dances, THE NATIONAL FOLK DANCE+ SQUARE DANCE+. We will invite each Congressman to attend the Dance in his District and at this Dance he will be presented with a Petition asking his support and co-sponsorship of HJR 60. Please designate a dance or dances in your area as Mini-Nationals, as part of this effort.
We want every Dancer in every club to get as many signatures as possible!
This iswhereDancer Power can show its (Continued On Page 14)

SQUARE DANCING NATIONAL FOLK DANCE
force. Each District or group of Districts can send a telegram to the Chairman of the 29th National, at the Cook Convention Center, Memphis, Tn., So tie can announce to the World, during the Parade of States, just how much Dancer Power each state has to support Square Dancing as our National Folk Dance.
We realize that only with the enthusiastic support and imagination of every Association, Federation, Council, Club, Caller and individal Dancer can we accomplish this Giant Task.
Here's How . . . We ask you, who represent organized
Square Dancing in your area, to spread the word on this and act as an extensior of our committee to assist with the collection of signatures and with the organizing of Dances in your area. Our Committee has been working toward this goal for over ten years and we feel that if everyone puts forth that Extra Little Effort; we can create a show of Dancer Power that will
focus the attention of our Law-Makers on this issue.
There are estimated to be Six Million active Square Dancers today and with the drop out rate at 20 to 30 percent, we have the potential of Thirty Million or more signatures. Can you imagine the tremendous impact this will make in an ELECTION YEAR?
We will award the individual Dancer and the Club and the Association (Federation) or Council, with the most signatures; one of the Pens used to sign the final Bill. Your organization can give awards as you see fit, ie. Admission to a Dance or Festival so long as it complies with our accepted ethics.
If you plan to assist in this worthwhile project, and we are sure you will; please let us know as soon as possible, and keep us posted periodically on the progress in your area. We are a small group with limited funds and helpers; but we will attempt, so far as possible to communicate directly. Failing this, we will enlist the aid of our most widely read National Square Dance Publications.

ALL ABOARD THE 19th IN 80!
To bring you up to date, we recently met with Mr. Harry Griffin, Sheraton Hotel manager. We were assured temperatures in the lower levels would be greatly improved. We are planning to rotate the dancing so that all levels will be able to dance on wood floors several times a day.
The dance program this year looks like a winner. Eight of our staff callers will be calling up through the challenge level and we have not forgotten the mainstream dancers. There will be mainstream dancing continuously throughout the convention. This year there will be contra dancing for the beginner and the experienced contra dancer. Another new feature will be early bird dancing on Thursday afternoon. The caller clinic will present the expertise of Jerry Helt. We have an extensive education program planned. This will be detailed in a future release.
As of January 15 there are still plenty of rooms in the Sheraton Hotel. During past conventions the hotel has always sold out early. Now is the time to register!
Avoid disappointment! Last year the entire convention was sold out a month before convention time. Don't miss the chance to attend the greatest square dance event in the Delaware Valley.
For information and registration blanks contact Rich and Doris Kell, 287 Dogwood Lane, Clarksboro, N.J. 08020. Phone — 609-423-0599.
