SQL Server 2012 SPLA Benefits
7
Pay for the Power You Need: • Customers and partners pay for computing power• For datacenter scenarios, licensing better aligned to hardware
capacity
Unlimited Virtualization:• Service Providers now have unlimited virtualization rights on SQL
Server Enterprise Edition• Significant price savings from SQL Server Datacenter Edition
Edition Simplification:• Edition reduction simplifies SQL SKU lineup for Service Providers and
customers • Increased consistency with VL offerings• For Business Intelligence Edition, licensing aligned to user-based
access
Additional Transition Time:• Service Providers will be given additional time for transition to
SQL Server 2012• SQL Server 2008R2 will remain on Price List until Jan 2013

License by CoresHow to purchase SQL Server 2012 Core Licenses
1. Count the number of Cores in the server2. A minimum of 4 core licenses are required per physical processor3. Purchase the appropriate number of core licenses for the server4. Licenses are sold in packs-each pack includes 2 core licenses (2-core pack)
1. Cores will be priced at ¼ the cost of a SQL 2008 R2 Processor2. No price increase from SQL Server 2008 R2 for processors with 1-4 cores3. License more cores as compute capacity increases
