Spy manufactures premium injected Trident Polarized lenses. Trident lenses diffuse glare through the use of a highly advanced polarizing filter layered within the injected lens, allowing incredible clarity, even in the harshest conditions.

Trident polarized lenses effectively eliminate more than 99% of blinding glare. Spy’s polarized lenses may cost you more, but our injected lenses will outlast and out-perform a typical polarized lens every day of the week (and twice on Sunday!).

Polarized lenses act like slatted window blinds—when light hits a reflective surface it bounces back and upward – the “blinds” in our Trident lenses block that glare, yet still let in the ambient light. This allows you to see clearly and stave off eye fatigue.

Traditional spherical lenses have a consistent vertical and horizontal curve in the lens. If the edge of the lens were to continue around back to itself, it would form a spherical shape.

sphericalA Toric lens has different horizontal and vertical base curves—meaning that the vertical curvature is different than the horizontal curvature. This creates a unique appearance that is very wearable and gives high-wrap frames a modern look and feel.

6-, 8-, or 9-base?

Many Spy sunglasses are available in 6-, 8-, or 9-Base. Base curve refers to the amount of “wrap” that a lens has, which in turn affects the curvature of the frame. A flatter lens—such as a 6-Base—will create a much flatter, squared frame shape, whereas a higher base number will cause a sleek, wraparound fit.

Fashion-wise, a 6-Base sunglass will have a more scholarly, boxy look, and the 9-Base will naturally be more suited toward active endeavors.

Spy’s ARC® (Accurate Radius Curvature) lenses are used throughout our series to provide optically correct, distortion-free vision. ARC® lenses become thinner as they move away from the optical center of the lens, which eliminates distortion and allows true clarity. All Spy Optic lenses are Optical Class 1 quality.
