Instruments
Prepared Trumpet in C
+kazoo, plastic mouth siren, piece of aluminium foil and a heavy bag filled with stones/metal objects.
Tenor Trombone (with F attachment)
+ a heavy bag filled with stones/metal objects.
Electric Guitar
+ spring drum connected to the lowest 2 strings, amplifier (with overdrive), jack cable, volume pedal, pick, bottle neck, metal stick and bow (preferably a cello one) and a heavy bag filled with stones/metal objects.
Violoncello
+ spring drum connected to the IV string, bottle neck, metal stick and a heavy bag filled with stones/metal objects.
Percussion 1
Marimba, big timpani (32”), 2 toms (high-‐medium + low), 2 bongos (high + low), 2 not suspended cymbals (little + big), 2 super-‐ball sticks, slide whistle, megaphone (with hand-‐microphone and alarm incorporated)
and a heavy bag filled with stones/metal objects.
Percussion 2

Trumpet in C -‐ Preparation of the trumpet:
Remove the 1st, 2nd and 3rd slide tubes out of the trumpet, and place the next objects on the extreme of the opened tubes (as in the picture):

2nd valve tube: A mouth siren (toy plastic one)
3rd valve tube: A piece of aluminium foil around the tube

Harmonics gliss.
Trombone -‐ Always with a pixie and a plunger mute.
-‐ Transposer tube (F attachment) always opened. When the F valve trigger is activated the sound comes out from the opened tube and not from the trombone bell. Pitches when F trigger is activated are expected to be approximate, and the exact tuning is not important.
Depress F valve trigger.
Plunger mute symbols: opened/ half-‐opened/ closed.
Air sounds with consonants. The two different positions mean two different air colours (two different consonants, for instance a high [s] and a low [f]) The gliss. line only means a transition between both sounds, the trombone slide doesn´t have to be moved in this moment.

Electric Guitar -‐The electric guitar is NOT connected to the amplifier (just at the very end of the piece), but an amplifier (with overdrive), a jack cable and a volume pedal (both connected to the amplifier) are needed for the piece. The amplifier should be configured in order to have the maximum possible noise out of it. A jack plug should be connected to the amplifier and the other plug should be free to produce electric buzzing noise when touching to it. The volume of both noises (amplifier itself and jack electric noise) should be controlled by a volume pedal. Another option is to have two different amplifiers, one just connected to the volume pedal and the other connected to the jack cable (and to the volume pedal), and control both noises independently.
-‐A spring-‐drum should be partially connected to the e-‐guitar: Connect the extreme of the spring to the 5th and 6th string beside the bridge (see picture), in order to get a natural amplification of these two strings. The spring should not touch anything else than the e-‐guitar strings to avoid the distortion of the sound. The body of the spring-‐drum should be securely mounted and placed beside the guitarist before the concert starts.

Detune the indicted string between ( ) as much as you can during the duration of the line.
Violoncello IV string detuned always ~1 octave down. Notation on the IV string is always written an octave up.
A spring -‐drum should be connected to the IV string. Connect the extreme of the spring to the IV string beside the bridge, in order to get a natural amplification of this string (see e-‐guitar picture). The body of the spring-‐drum should be securely mounted and placed beside the cellist before the concert starts.

Without tone, no specific pitch intended/ Bowing on the body of the instrument (preferably on a bout) producing a quasi breathing sound.
“Seagull gliss.” (same as a artifical harmonic glissando but keeping the same distance between the 2 playing fingers throughout the glissando)
pizzicatto/ Bartok pizz./ Nail pizz./ Pizzicatto tremolo (similar as the guitar rasgueado technique)
Jété technique. Number of beats according to the duration of the note.
Rattling sound 1: Bend the lowest string outside the fingerboard at the indicated position to make a dense percussive rattling sound when bowed, trying always to get the most percussive and noisy sound. This technique works always better and faster bowing up.
Rattling sound 2: To reach this ppp rattling sound, push the III. string to the right until it touches slightly the IV. string, while bowing on this IV. string.
Percussion Hard stick/ soft-‐medium stick/ brush stick/ super-‐ball/ opposite side of the stick.
Gliss. along the marimba or vibraphone bars (diatonic gliss.) / percussive and rattling gliss. along the marimba or vibraphone tubes. The pitches indicating the distance of the gliss. are always approximate, the exact distance from one pitch to another is not important.
Let the stick bounce free after hitting the instrument. Number of beats according to the duration of the note.
Breath in/out (for the ACME mouth siren)
A symbol using super-‐ball sticks means rubbing on the instrument and not a roll. Vibraphone always with the motor on (~3-‐4 beats/second)
Piano Preparation:
~3 big plastic/metal rulers close to the dampers covering the whole piano register, except the highest octave.
A piece of big adhesive tape (duct tape or any strong one) stuck on the highest octave.
White keys gliss./Black keys gliss./White keys rattling percussive gliss./Black keys rattling percussive gliss. The pitches indicating the distance of the gliss. are always approximate, the exact distance from one pitch to another is not important.
Nails/Flesh of the fingers (For the rattling percussive gliss.)
Depress the keys with a fast movement from the beginning of the palm (close to the wrist) to the whole hand.

Megaphones (for percussion and piano players) -‐The megaphones should have a hand-‐microphone with an ON/OFF switch incorporated, an alarm switch and the possibility to turn up-‐down the volume (see picture). If the maximum volume of the megaphone is too loud, a piece of foam (of a pillow, for instance) can be placed inside the megaphone bell and it´ll work as a mute.

Turn the megaphone volume up/down to the minimum/maximum power.
Switch the hand-‐microphone ON/OFF
Switch the Alarm button ON/OFF
Place the hand-‐microphone close to the mouth.
Mouth actions with the hand microphone:
Produce a [SCH] consonant with different pitches (but not singing, just by opening/closing the mouth)
Produce “click” sounds with your tongue. Also with different pitches by opening/closing the mouth.
Blow directly to the hand microphone within a distance of 5 cm between your mouth and the hand microphone.
Rub softly the hand microphone on your clothes, producing a soft noise.
Produce a rattling percussive sound with the nails along the front side of the hand microphone.
Place the hand microphone inside the megaphone bell. As a result, a very high and loud frequency will come out. If this sound is too loud you can turn the volume in this moment to a middle position.
(For the pianist) Make a fast gliss. with the front side of the hand microphone along the white keys of the piano keyboard.
(For the percussion 2 player) Place the hand microphone within a distance of ~3 cm between the hand mic. and the mouth siren.
Feet sounds
Feet sounds clef.
Stamp a foot roughly on the floor.
Hit softly the floor with the feet, but without lifting them. The white symbol: with the toe/the black one: with the heel.
Left foot/Right foot.
Lighting The three first movements of the piece should be preferably played with spot lights on each musician, or in any case the stage lighting (beside the musicians) should be set as darkest as possible.
When the 4th movement starts, all lights should preferably be switched off suddenly (exactly when the trombone player lets fall a bag to the floor), remaining in total darkness until the end of the piece. For this movement the musicians should play then preferably by heart, or at least with the less possible amount of light on the whole stage (for instance just with soft stand lights for the musicians, enough to read the score).
