THE PROBLEM

• Separate information repositories for

procedures

• Difficult or no search capabilities (navigation

only)

• No linkage of related procedures

• Difficult to request changes and update

information

• Any design or functionality changes

required IT involvement

• Not enough support to create a taxonomy or

have it loaded into the term store.

THE APPROACH

• Navigation: Provide home/index pages allowing those that resist change to navigate

• Content: Move from documents into web pages

• Consistency: Use of CSS, content editor web part and consistent page structure

• Content changes: Provide ‘recent changes’ information

• Search: Enterprise wiki pages and metadata

• Feedback: Provide simple change request and feedback forms

• Measure: Search metrics

How is this going to work without a

taxonomy?

• Created a descriptive paragraph at top of page about the page content

Page 12: Spsnj 2014 Search without a Taxonomy

EXAMPLE 4 – CONSISTENT PAGES

• CSS is your friend!

• Break up existing documents

o Overviews

o Procedures

o Key terms

• Use anchor tags for long pages

Page 13: Spsnj 2014 Search without a Taxonomy

EXAMPLE 5 – RECENT CHANGES

All updates

• Created a view of all recent changes

• Created a view and link for recent changes by each process using the metadata navigation

feature

• Link button placed on all home pages

Process specific updates

Page 14: Spsnj 2014 Search without a Taxonomy

EXAMPLE 6 – CHANGE REQUESTS AND FEEDBACK

Feedback Form

• Created a new, simplified process for requesting changes

o More accountability for approvers

• Created and promoted easy feedback loop

o Important to respond quickly to feedback
