Your support on Austin's collection of donations was greatly appreciated by the staff at the Shelter. Everything that was brought in was of great need as they were running low on supplies. Great job everyone! O’CHIESE FIRST NATIONS On October 21 st , Allan Littlejohn, the band manager of the O’Chiese First Nation, came to share his knowledge of the historical way of life of the Saulteaux people with the Grade 7 and 8 classes of Spruce View School. Students are learning about the contributions of First Nations to the Canadian identity pre-Confederation and we welcomed the learning opportunity to have a local expert share about a regional First Nation group. Students interviewed Mr. Littlejohn about traditional First Nations shelter, diet, and cultural celebrations, and also about how life has changed on the O’Chiese First Nation and what life is like in the modern context. Spruce View School thanks Mr. Littlejohn for coming to speak to these classes on one of his days off, and provide insight into the First Nation perspective UPCOMING PROGRAMS ❖ Grade 9’s will be starting the Heroes Program on October 29. ❖ The Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre will be facilitating the Take Charge Program on October 29 for grades 8-12. ❖ The Red Cross will be facilitating the Healthy Youth Relationships Program (grades 7-10) and Bully and Harassment Prevention Program (grades 6-10) on November 2 & 26.
