“A Resident Owned & Directed Community”
Dan’s $.02 for May 2020
I would like to thank all residents for your help in keeping our communi-ty safe and healthy during the Coronavirus Pandemic. I understand it has been stressful for the last few months and confining for the last month and a half for us all, but know that we all will get through this if we con-tinue practice safe distancing while taking care of ourselves and others in our community.
In that vein, your 9 member SCI Board of Directors and the SCI managers met for the April monthly meeting via a conference call . A draft of the meeting minutes will be available in the Springlake office for residents who wish to read them. Hopefully this will not be the new norm in the
future-please stay tuned.
A couple of other items: Check out managers Samantha and Jamie’s Scoop article about; how residents can identify in an emergency a hidden key for EMTs and how to obtain address signs from the fire department (also the fire department can help you install the address sign). And be on the lookout for information at the whale watching platform, oops, I mean wildlife and turtle watching platform, for information and pictures about our feathered, furry and Western Painted Turtle friends.
Again please stay safe and healthy and continue to practice safe distancing as we go about our
daily lives. Dan

Money Matters
MONEY MATTERS COVID-19 VIRUS (BAD)
Money does not matter to this virus. It does not care if you have several billion dollars or no money at all. It will
find you, if you let it. Stay home and go wash your hands.
The virus is so bad it won’t let us go out in public. It makes us stay home and read a book all the way thru,
sit down with popcorn and watch an old movie, (one we have been wanting to see for a long time), get the old
picture albums out of the closet and re-live many happy times of our past, call an old friend, family, or neighbor and make sure they are OK and catch up on what they
have been up to, try a new recipe, if all else fails,
organize your pantry. Actually, the virus might be doing us a favor, if we fol-
low the health guidelines given to us. The SCI BOD’s and onsite MANAGERS, are here to help
you get thru this difficult crisis. If you feel you need help or need something, give one of us a call.
NOW!! GO WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!
The Springlake Picnic normally held in July will be cancelled this year because of the threat of the
Corona Virus to its residents, volunteers and the many vendors needed to put it together. Down payments were required for many of the needed supplies and
would be lost if we were to cancel later.
Thank you to Mike Poukkala and his crew for doing this research for us in preparation for the Picnic.
Picnic cancelled for 2020

Shout Out! You’ve got to eat your veggies
My granddaughter couldn’t get her kindergarten age son to eat vegetables. She decided to plant a garden to entice him. She asked what he would like to plant. He answered pickles please, and I like dill and sweet too. Sent in by Jan Robirts.
Thanks Jan for sending to the Scoop.
Big shout out to Theresa Trotter and Deborah Chaffee for making masks for our residents. IF, you would like a hand made mask please call the office and we will porch deliver. Thanks again Theresa and Deborah!

Hi Edie, we all love you in Springlake
What to do in a Quarantine? Party of course
Mike and Colleen Poukkula wanted to celebrate their memorable anniversary on 4/20/2020, they were married 20 years before on 4/20/2000. But with Covid-19 rules in effect they would have to do some maneuvering on their place to see how it was going to work. How about a curbside or driveway party since it was going to be a nice day in the neighborhood. Several friends and neighbors stopped by to say hi and happy anniversary. There was a few laughs and shared stories of days gone by and their vision of a party came true. Mike said that they were having a barbecue later to complete the party time on their 20th Anniversary. Happy Anniversary Mike & Colleen
Hi, my name is P.D. I stay with my two Aunts, JUNE and Bonnie when I’m up your way in Springlake. I went and seen Edie today at her new home in McMinnville and thought everyone would like to see her latest picture and to give you a message from her. I try to go see her every week. She looks good but frail as always. She wanted me to “tell all hello and that she misses everyone and the dogs too”. Hope you enjoy her photo. If you ever have any mes-sages or photos to send her just email me and I’ll see to it that she gets your message. Stay safe and healthy.

Spring is for the Birds
Check Your Garage but be careful looking up!
“Birds of a Feather flock together”, especially this time of the year. Al and Wanda noticed that a bird was wanting to get in their garage a lot of the time when going to and from the garage. “Always look up” someone once said and in so doing they noticed that a Robin had made a nest above the garage opener. This cannot contin-ue and they had to remove the nest and evict the Robin from the garage door opener. And another message is, always close the moonroof when parking in the garage, so that meant that the job wasn’t complete when Al re-moved the nest, had to clean out the car also. So when you drive by and notice that their garage door is closed, they are not being unsocial just protecting the car and garage from the Robin’s family tendencies.

DRIVERS NEED TO BE AWARE OF THEIR SURROUNDINGS With the Covid-19 “Stay at Home” in place and nicer weather approaching it means people have cabin fever and starting move along our streets. It is an important time for drivers to be cautious of outside surroundings such as neighbors walking, biking, jogging and walking their pets. Please follow the posted 10mph speed limit within the Springlake community and STOP at all posted STOP signs. Recently one of our community members was nearly hit by a driver not paying attention. The number one complaint in the office is people speeding. Please slow down, Stay off your cell phones, and pay attention the road.
DOG WASTE Complaints have been received from residents of the community regarding dog waste on the grounds. There has been an increased volume of dog waste that has been found on the common areas owned by the SCI as well as on the private front and side lawns of residents who do not own dogs. If you are a dog owner, please be re-spectful of your neighbors’ property as well as the common grounds of SCI. In case you are not aware, Springlake Community Inc. Rules and Regulation requires that pet owners pick up after their pets and properly dispose of their waste. Furthermore, animal fecal matter serves as a food source for rats and will encourage a rat infestation if it accumulates on the grounds of the community. A rat infestation, once it is established is a health hazard in itself and is very difficult to completely extinguish. All dog owners are urged to abide by the rules and regulations so that the unsightly and unhealthy appearance of dog waste on the grounds can be elimi-nated. If you observe a dog walker not picking up after the dog’s waste, please report it to Springlake Office im-mediately and if possible, please take a photo of the person and the dog with a cell phone or camera as the pho-to may be very useful in identifying the violator. All residents are asked to take pride in the community by ad-hering to the community rules. If all pet owners within the community practice proper pet waste disposal as mentioned above, the eyesore and health hazard created by pet waste on the community grounds can be elimi-nated. The Board and management thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
ARE YOU PLANNING AN EXTERIOR CHANGE? It’s as Easy as A B C Ask the Architectural Design Committee (ADC) if your intended change or construction is within guidelines by submitting the request form found at the office or online on our Springlake website at www.springlakeinc.com and goto the tab “residents only” type in password and then scroll down to find “documents” Be approved. The ADC has 45 days after receipt of your request to provide their decision by annotating and sign-ing the request form. Commence with your project. Call before you dig: Oregon Utility Notification Center (OUNC) Call: 1-800-332-2344 (or 811)
LOT INSPECTIONS From time to time, at reasonable times, SCI makes random inspection of member’s lots and homes (exterior on-ly) for compliance with SCI Rules and Regulations. This is to inform you that we will start making these inspec-tions starting in June. You will be notified by mail of the dates and time frame to expect your inspection.
LANDSCAPING Speaking of cabin fever and with spring arriving and the weather warming up, it’s a great time to start working on your home’s landscaping. Spring weeds are poking through and our plants are starting to grow again. This cleanup activity will make your home, yard and neighborhood look more attractive. Thank you for your hard work, and we look forward to seeing great looking landscapes again this spring!
Reminders from the office.
