so well, as this did in Tucson, we know that our weekend wasvery well spent.
Still, it does take a lot ofwork and sometimes sacri-fices to make things runsmoothly and to give ourmembers something of greatquality to make it all worthit. I’d like to thank all thevolunteers who contributedto making our Januaryweekend successful. Thereare a lot of people workingtirelessly behind the scenesto make it all happen.
I’d also like to thank SandyAnderson and Diana Thomp-son for their amazing workshops. I learned a lot personally andhave been applying the material into my practice. We are veryfortunate to be able to bring quality presenters to our mem-bers. See this issue of the newsletter for information on KellyLott’s classes this spring in Phoenix. I can’t wait to attendthese classes as well.
During our meeting in January, we were able to honor our50-year member, Rose Martin, from Tucson. National Presi-dent Jeff Smoot recorded a video for us to play at the meetingto congratulate Rose. Thank you, Jeff! If you didn’t see thevideo, it is on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AMTAArizona) and our website (www.azamta.org). Rose istruly an inspiration. Thank you, Rose, for taking the time tocome to our meeting. It was an honor to meet you!
We also welcomed some new members at our meeting andI met some current massage students in one of the workshops.I was impressed with their enthusiasm and their involvementas well. When I sat back and looked at the spectrum ofexperience in the room, I was in awe. Every single one of usbrings something to the table and it is in working togetherand inspiring each other that we all accomplish great things.I’m proud to be a tiny part in what makes up AMTA-Arizona.I hope you know that you’re appreciated as a member, atherapist, and a part of our community!
We’ll see you in April!Warmest regards,
Michelle Cordero,AMTA Arizona Chapter President
appy New Year, AMTA-ArizonaMembers! By the time you read this,2016 will be well under way. I do
hope your resolutions and goals for 2016 aregoing well for you.
The other day, my husband had a bit of acase of the Monday Blues and in an effort tocheer him up, I told him to think of Mondaysas mini-New Year’s Days. People always seempretty excited about the start of a new year.It brings with it a feeling of hope, anticipationand excitement for things to come. What ifwe treat the start of each new week the sameway? Doesn’t that make Mondays a little morebearable? (In case you’re wondering, yes, I amthat person who is a bit too chipper in themornings!)
In the massage world, the weekends mightnot feel the same way to us therapists sincemany of us work on the weekends. Some of us,
like those whojoined us inTucson inJanuary, sacrifice our
weekend play time for continuing our educa-tion. However, when the weekend activities go

you do it’s not really work right. I attended Arizona School of
Massage Therapy (ASMT) in Phoenix,Arizona. And WOW I learned so muchI wish I had done this 30 years ago. Ihad no idea how many modalities therewere and how much good a massagereally does. What is one of your favoritememories from massage school?I really enjoyed all of it but I have toadmit my favorite of all was getting aLomi Lomi massage. What population do you focus on asyour clientele...and why?I don’t have a set population now sinceI’m just starting out. My youngest clientis 8 years old and my oldest is 85 years

(continued from page 1)My greatest joy is seeing my clientshappy through therapeutic massage andthe ability to help someone get rid ofpain or assist them through healthissues. If you could do anything other thanmassage, what would it be...and why?I would enjoy working with the publicas a customer service representative, always assisting and helping others.
2013 my husband Rich was diagnosedwith stage 4 lung cancer. Sadly myRich passed away a year later onJanuary 5, 2014. As a result I now hadto decide if I was going to go back toworking construction to be able tosupport my grandson and myself, or goback to school. I didn’t want a day careto raise my grandson, so back to schoolit was. I had owned a massage tablesince 2006 and had given massagesas a hobby. I really enjoyed helpingothers feel better by massaging them.So I decided to go to school and getlicensed as a massage therapist. I figuredI could make a decent living and workmy own hours. Besides if you like what
LMT Profiles: Rosie Deal(continued from page 1) old. I would like to continue to learn
more on Cranial Sacral Therapy andLymphatic massage. I would like to beable to help my clients that suffer fromMigraines, Fibromyalgia and otherrelated pain. You attended your first AMTA-AZChapter Membership meeting inJanuary. What caught your attentionabout attending this meeting...andwhat part of the meeting did you likethe best?
Honestly I didn’t even know aboutthese meeting until I went to theNational Convention in Pittsburgh lastSeptember. I met Michelle Cordero anda few others. Michelle told me aboutthe meetings.
The fact that there was a free classreally got my attention especially a footmassage class. I was really lookingforward to the Thai foot massage andthe whiplash class too. I’m glad to say Iwas not disappointed, in fact I was gladI went. I had a great time, learned a lot,and got to meet some great people.
What is one “pearl of wisdom” you’dlike to impart to your fellow massagetherapists? To my fellow colleagues, “Become abeacon of light to others through yourtherapeutic touch and respecting thedignity of each others’ potential.”
