We have four seventh grade academies for the 2008-2009 school year. Lighthouse is our intervention academy where students learn the same curriculum as the students in the other 7 th grade academies, but they receive various supports as needed by the students. The other three academies – Meridian, Galaxy, and Discovery are the same except the Discovery Academy has one class of Algebra 1 with 36 students. These 36 students in Algebra 1 meet specific eligibility requirements. The remaining 110 students within Discovery are a mix of high, average, and low in their math and language arts abilities, as are the other academies. All teachers have been trained in differentiated instruction which enables them to challenge students who are able as well as support the students who need it by implementing different activities. In addition, all students will learn the same grade level standards for English language arts, science and social studies regardless of academy placement.
