Litchfield High School May 22, 2020
The 2019 LHS Golf team enjoyed a solid season, going 8-8 in the Berkshire League, good for a 5th place finish. The team also won the coveted Ted Alex Sportsmanship Award for the 9th time over the past 13 seasons.
Of the five varsity positions in 2019, three were consistently occupied by a rotation of four graduated (2019) seniors: Carson Mello, Tripp Melk, Jimmy Kelleher and Chris Tieman. The underclassmen who filled in the other two varsity spots were juniors David O’Hara and Evan Fischthal along with our number one varsity golfer, sophomore Quinn Morse.
The 2020 team had realistic hopes and expectations to win the BL Golf Championship in 2020.
Spring Sports Senior Highlight
BRENDAN WILSON
~1st year varsity letter winner ~
Brendan joined the team as a junior and brought a positive, hard working attitude to the team each day. Brendan’s rhythmic swing helped him show flashes of good scoring. Having the perfect attitude to make golf
an enjoyable, life-long sport, Brendan was a great asset to our team and will be missed by his coaches
and teammates.
EDWARD DEMERS
~1st year varsity letter winner ~
Ed was a four year golfer at LHS. He never missed a practice or match over his first three seasons
displaying our model of consistency. Well-liked by all and very easy to get along with. Ed improved his
game each year and was a pleasure to coach. He was a flexible teammate who would always do what was
necessary for anyone.
DAVID O’HARA ~3 year varsity letter winner ~
Dave was on track to complete four successful years of LHS varsity golf. A highly intelligent player, David also represented LHS as the CIAC Male Scholar Athlete. David’s leadership,
respect for the game, and ability to be a great teammate to all helped to
further set the standard for future LHS golfers.
EVAN FISCHTHAL ~2 year varsity letter winner ~
Evan became a part of the LHS golf program as a junior and played in a few varsity contests. As the season
progressed, it was obvious that Evan was falling in love with this great game. His overall athletic abilities and internal competitive nature helped him quickly improve into what would have been an outstanding senior season. He had the potential to become a BL Golf All Star
in his final season.
