STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY Each year donors help the Y provide more than $4 million in local assistance and charitable programming
throughout our region. Thousands of adults, children, and families rely on these donations for access to
afterschool child care, summer camp, swim lessons, youth sports, healthy food markets, and programs that
improve health and well-being.
YOUR GIFT GOES LOCAL When you make a tax-deductible donation to the Y, you will give the youngest and neediest among us a strong
foundation, help those who would otherwise remain strangers forge friendships, and make it possible for more
people to build community.
Every dollar you donate to the Y has a lasting impact on our neighbors. The Y invests100% of donations in local charitable services and programs. For example, your gift will: Expand our mobile healthy food program to reach more people in the most vulnerable communities
Help children and teens develop self-confidence, character, values, and leadership skills
Support health equity, address chronic diseases, and build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all

HOW YOUR GIFT CHANGES LIVES IN OUR COMMUNITY NURTURING YOUTH POTENTIAL Andrea is a single mom who works multiple part-time jobs. Last summer her son, David, went to camp with the help of a Y scholarship. He made new friends and memories. Camp transforms a child’s life, prevents summer learning loss, and builds self-confidence. ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD Cheri just made her first charitable gift. When she was between jobs and having trouble putting food on the table, she visited the Y’s mobile market and received free fruits and vegetables. Cheri knows firsthand that the Y is always there for all. WELL-BEING FOR ALL Markus cares for his grandmother, Charlotte. He took her to the Y so he could have time to breathe, but worried she might be lonely. Charlotte surprised him by opening up, becoming more cheerful, and taking classes with new friends. Markus is less stressed knowing his grandmother is finding community.

The YMCA of WNC Piranhas is a year-round YMCA competitive swim team for kids ages 6-18. We are sanctioned by both the YMCA and USA Swimming leagues. This means that Piranha swimmers compete in both YMCA and USA competitions. We believe that being a part of these two leagues gives our swimmers the opportunity to compete at the best level for their abilities. Our team’s structure is based on the Y’s mission and four core values. We divide into seven different practice groups that are based on age and ability level and are designed by the coaches to help all swimmers to develop and to be challenged, regardless of ability. There is a place for every level of swimmer to be challenged and to flourish.

Who is a Leader? Everyone is a Leader—we all have something to contribute to our
community. At the Y, we are committed to helping you share your passions with those around you.
What is Leaders Club? Leaders Club is a place where teens from across Western North
Carolina can come to share their passions with the world. Interested in the environment? Work
together to clean out a local river or creek. Interested in art? Design and paint a mural with your
friends. If you can dream it, we can do it.
Who can join? Leaders Club is for students ages 13-18. Meetings take place during the
school year at the Reuter Family YMCA. Members and non-members can contact Y staff Ragan Story
to check out our next meeting at 828-251-5910 or [email protected]
What do you do? Our philosophy is simple: we take the ideas (and ideals) of our members
and make them reality. You design a community service project somewhere that we are needed and
wanted, and Leaders Club will make it happen. Whether we are cleaning out the French Broad River in
canoes, coaching a soccer team, mentoring a kindergartener, or helping out at the dog shelter, we
are always serving the needs of those around us.

A member must be age 18+ to bring a guest. Each member may bring one individual or family guest per visit. Guests may visit the YMCA of WNC with an
existing member for free only three times per calendar year (Jan. 1-Dec. 31). Once a guest has used all three free visits, the guest (whether an individual or
family), must either join the YMCA or buy a day pass. Day passes are $15 for an adult, $30 for a family or household.

YMCA OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA
OUR CAUSE
Strengthening the foundation of community
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. The Y supports youth through our athletics,
afterschool, and summer day and overnight camp programs.
HEALTHY LIVING
We strive to improve our community’s health and well-being. The Y offers programs such as LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA for cancer survivors, the
YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program to stop the onset of type 2 diabetes, and nutrition programs to serve those with food insecurity.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The Y believes embracing diversity and inclusion is essential to better understand, engage with, advocate for, and serve all people.
As neighborhoods change, societal perspectives and attitudes evolve, and communities become globalized, we promote social inclusion and create a safe, welcoming space for all. We reach out to diverse and
underserved communities and drive program innovation so that everyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from,
has an opportunity to reach their full potential.
OUR MISSION To put Christian principles into practice through programs
that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
WE’RE HERE FOR YOU
It is our belief that NO ONE should be turned away due to inability to pay.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization open to all people. If you or someone you know cannot afford the full cost of a YMCA program or membership, please request a Y-Access application.

Are you looking for a rewarding way to spend your free
time? Do you have a love for your community, but aren’t
sure how to get involved? The YMCA of Western North
Carolina has many opportunities for you to make an
impact. At the Y, we believe that when people come
together for a common cause, it strengthens the whole
community.
VOLUNTEER WITH THE YMCA
Togetherhood is the Y’s signature program for social
responsibility. This program meets the first Monday of
every month and invites Y members to lead and
participate in volunteer service projects that benefit
Western North Carolina communities.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Youth Mentor
The Y is partnering with local schools to provide much
needed volunteer mentors for students. You might BE THE
ONE who has just the right lens for listening or the right
story for sharing. A 2-hour training will be provided.
Meeting Schedule: Tuesday or Thursday
3:45-5 p.m.
at Estes Elementary School
ages 5-12
Meal Packing Event
The Y will host the Rotarians Against Hunger event on
Saturday, March 21.
