Leaving his mark in the SJCC record book, Coach Gary Geller retired as the varsity girls’ basketball coach after an amazing 32 seasons. Coach Geller fin-ished his career with 452 wins as his teams dominated the MAL for many seasons. The Streaks were Sectional champions 17 times, District champions five times, and also made five appearances in the Regional tournament. He was also named MAL Coach of the Year for three seasons, twice named District 6 Coach of the Year, and once received the honor of being named the Division 4 State Coach of the Year. Coach Geller saw many changes throughout his career. The 3-point shot was adopted, the ball became smaller, and the level of play continued to improve each year.

“When I got into coaching I didn’t know what I was getting into. After 32 years I would have to say it was a lot of hard work but a tre-mendous amount of fun. Looking back, I would do it over again in a minute,” added coach Geller. Coach Geller’s enthusiasm, work ethic, and dedication to the girls’ basketball program was greatly appreciated and will surely be missed for many years to come!

Dear Friends and Supporters of Catholic Schools: As we move toward the completion of our third year as a consolidated school, we continue to balance the daily work of operating a K-12 school system while planting the seeds of innovation to meet future needs. We are blessed and thankful for all of the support we have had over the years and ask that you continue to pray and volunteer and donate to help us build our new future, our new beginning. The 2012-2013 year has been outstanding in many areas. We are doing great things. Our BHCS Governing Board has taken action to explore long-range strate-gic planning through a comprehensive and collaborative group of stakehold-

ers. We have initiated new marketing programs to “tell our story” and get the word out about our schools to retain and gain enrollment. We are exploring options to engage our Hispanic and Latino brothers and sisters to make our schools and churches more welcoming and supportive. We have put state and federal dollars into purchasing updated curriculum and technology resources for all classrooms. We are on the move. We also are addressing the tough issues of our economy, carry-over debt and loans and ways to cut costs where we can – the same issues we all face in our own homes. We know that our efforts and momentum will pay off for us down the road and that we must persevere and stay focused during the next few years. Our kids expect and deserve the best education possible and we all must commit to the effort and work that needs to be done. We need everyone to help. Each day we see the “miracles” of our Catholic schools through the words and actions of our stu-dents, staff, and parents. We are at a crucial turning point in our journey and through prayer, purpose-driven planning and personal commitment, we will be positioned for future generations to have the opportunity to attend our Catholic schools. We will succeed.

Thank you and God bless you and your families,

Tim Cullen

By: Jaeden Sherman(Class of 2015) 2013 March for Life JournalDay 1We all met in the SJCC cafeteria at eight o’clock pm to leave for Washington D.C for the 2013 March for Life. The group consisted of Matthew Boyer, Kendra Molyet, Mrs. Jane Molyet, Zak Molyet, Katerina Molyet, Sydney Honaker, Kelsey Nevius, Emily Anderson, Tricia Re-inhart, Father Jacob Gordon, and myself. We joined Fr. Jacob in prayer as we awaited the group from Lima Central Catholic to join us on the trip to Washington. Day 2At six o’clock am, we arrived at the University of Maryland’s Comcast Center for the Youth Rally and Mass. This arena was filled with students from schools all around the nation. Prior to Mass, we listened to a Christian band and motivational speaker. When Mass started, there was a long procession of priests, deacons, cardinals, and bishops. After Mass, we were dismissed by sections to proceed to the metro which took us to the National Archives. It was finally time for the March for Life! I felt both excited and nervous as I stepped off the metro. Not knowing what to expect, we made our way to ground level to the place where we would March for Life. We joined the longest line of people I have ever seen. People were chanting and carrying signs. Along the roadside were people speaking against abortion, holding graphic pic-tures of aborted babies, and women with signs that read, “I am a child of rape, and I love my life.” When we got to the top of the hill, I looked back and saw a seemingly endless line of people. It gave me a great feeling to know this many people came to support a great cause. The march ended at the Supreme Court building where people continued to chant and pray. After the March, our group visited the Holocaust Museum where we followed a holocaust victim’s experience during the Holocaust.Day 3The day began with Mass by Father Jacob followed by breakfast at the hotel. We then visited the National Mall where we split into groups of St. Joe and Lima CC students. Here, we toured several Smithsonian Museums and the Vietnam Memorial.Day 4We loaded the bus to journey back to Fremont, Ohio. We arrived home at four o’clock am, tired and full of stories to tell. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I will definitely attend March for Life as many times as I can until the terrible abortion law is overturned. I am sure anyone who attended March for Life would agree. I also encourage anyone who cares about the sanctity of life to attend the March and help end abortion!

Win ter Spor ts Wrap-Up

The varsity girls’ basketball team’s outlook changed dramati-cally with an early season loss of their two starting guards. While Josie Weickert was out for the season, sharp-shooter Cassidy Frank was able to return, guiding the team to 11 vic-tories. Frank was recognized as one of the top 3-point shoot-ers in the state while breaking many school 3-point shooting records as well. The girls were led by seniors Frank, Jensen LeJeune, and Brennan Reardon. They finished out their ca-reers as Sectional champions with many good memories.

Two strong senior bowlers, Katie Harmon and Logan Hartley, led the boys’ and girls’ bowling teams. Harmon, along with sophomore Tricia Reinhart, advanced to the Regional tournament for the first time in school history. Hartley averaged 201pins per game and almost scored a perfect game. There were many newcomers to the sport with 20 bowlers on the teams.

Records fell throughout the swimming season as the girls team had an impressive season. Led by senior Leah Bin-sack, the team shaved seconds off throughout the season and made another appearance at the District meet at BGSU. Kristin Sessler, Brigette Fulwider, and Caroline Darr competed with Binsack on two relay teams. The boys’ team was very young and has good potential for fu-ture seasons.

A fourth place finish at the State tournament by junior Corey Durbin highlighted a successful wrestling season. Durbin fin-ished the season with an impressive 43-5 record. Sean Vasquez and Jacob Widman also had winning records and senior Jacob Wurzel finished his wrestling career with a solid season.

A talented group of seniors led the boys’ basketball sea-son to a successful 18-6 re-cord. Jordan Sessler, Zack Yeckley, Connor Dudley, Luke Stierwalt, Matt Ma-cielewicz, and Sam Picciuto finished their careers with a shared MAL championship. One of the highlights of the season was when the team knocked off state-ranked New Riegel on Big Board Friday! Juniors Hunter Har-rison, Ryan Williams, and Marcus Kerr also contrib-uted to the team’s success and will have big shoes to fill next season.

The basketball season was fun-filled and spirited for the cheerleaders. With amazing flips, new cheers, and cute sideline dances, the girls pumped up the crowds! Seniors Grace Magro, Allison Batey, Lindsay Darr, and Leah Darr led the varsity squad and will surely be missed next year.
