Hoover Dam Built during the Depression; thousands of men and their families came to Black Canyon to tame the Colorado River. It took less than five years, in a harsh and barren land, to build the largest dam of its time. Now, years later, Hoover Dam still stands as a world-renowned structure. The Dam is a National Historic Landmark and has been rated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders.

Bryce Canyon National Park What is Bryce Canyon? Attempts at description lead to paradoxes. Cave without a ceiling? Forest of stone? Even canyon is misleading since Bryce is carved by freeze-thaw cycles, not a river. Yet, "world's largest pothole" is neither adequate nor flattering. Tour our Website. You'll be enticed to visit Bryce in person. Once here, maybe you'll agree with those who simply say, "Bryce is the Bryce!"

Zion National Park Massive canyon walls ascend toward a brilliant blue sky. To experience Zion, you need to walk among the towering cliffs, or challenge your courage in a small narrow canyon. These unique sandstone cliffs range in color from cream, to pink, to red. They could be described as sand castles crowning desert canyons.

IN MEMORIAM
GEORGE S. EAGER, JR., PH.D.
Dr. George Sidney Eager passed away on February 1, 2012 at the age of 96 in Upper Montclair, NJ. Dr. Eager hired me 50 years ago and remained my friend and mentor for all this time. Dr. Eager was born and educated in Baltimore, MD where he received his Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees at John Hopkins University. During World War II he became the youngest Lt. Colonel in the 141st Armored Signal Co. of the US Army, serving as Division Signal Officer throughout the African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. Dr. Eager took his last retirement in 1995 after being President and Director of Cable Technology Laboratories for 12 years. Prior to that, he retired as Director of Research at the old General Cable Corporation, where he worked for 34 years and was responsible for the direction of the laboratories staffed by 120 scientists and engineers working on power and communication cables. Dr. Eager gained worldwide recognition for his achievements in high voltage cable technology. He was a recognized authority on underground power cables. He was the author and co-author of 35 technical papers and was granted 22 patents. He was a Fellow of the IEEE, past Chairman of the Insulated Conductor Committee, as well as, past Chairman of the Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, National Academy of Engineers. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth, and three sons and their families. We are grateful for his presence with us and regret the passing of one of our outstanding technical members. Jukka T. Tiainen
Jukka Tiainen, passed away on November 7, 2011 at the age of 56 in Grapevine, Texas. Jukka was a competitor, colleague and friend for many years. A native of Finland, Jukka was a gradate of the University of Helsinki where he received his BS degree in electrical engineering. Jukka worked in the cable industry nearly all of his life. He worked in many phases of the business, the machinery field, high voltage cable and accessories, and installation services. Joining the late Jim Moran working for Nokia Cables, Jukka became an innovator and pioneer in the high voltage cable industry. Working diligently on behalf of his customers, he proposed solutions to their problems met challenges head on and introduced a technology in its infancy to the North American market, where he nurtured the high voltage XLPE cable business into the predominant High Voltage technology it is today. Jukka was a fixture at these meetings for many years, he loved the collegial sprit of the ICC, and enjoyed meeting with his many friends and acquaintances to catch up. We as an industry are better because of Jukka’s foresight and contributions. Jukka brought energy and light to cities throughout North America, and energy and light to all those whose lives he touched. Jukka is survived by his wife Helena, two daughters; Tanya and her husband Ryan, Nina, and his granddaughter Emersyn. With his ever-present smile, the quick outreach of his hand and the quick joke, he made you feel at ease. We will miss him. Presented by Frank McGovern on behalf of the ICC
