BIGSUCCESS!
The 17th annual “Calls for Kids” Telecast was broadcast live from the Nashville Ronald McDonald
House on March 31, 2007. It is the largest annual fundraising event for the Nashville facility,
and monies generated through the event offset the day to day operating costs of the House.
In the two hours of broadcasting, WKRN News 2 focused on the mission of the House and the
people and companies that do so much to support us throughout the year. Some of the features
included families, past and present, which have called RMH a “home away from home” while they
were taking care of their critically ill child. This year the public had the opportunity to meet
some pretty amazing kids that have been hard at work fighting battles to save their lives.
Besides the family stories, the public also had the chance to take a look at some of the great friends
the Nashville Ronald McDonald House has in this community including Ronald McDonald himself
and Larry and Bob from the Veggie Tales! The Nashville Ronald McDonald House is very lucky
to have friends like this take such great care of us.
The co-chairs for the 2007 “Calls for Kids” Telecast, Susan Woodland and Mary Fox, were very
excited about this year’s event. “We wanted to show the audience just how important the house is
for those that call it home for awhile, Susan said. “From our committed staff to the devoted
volunteers, we wanted everyone to get to know the Ronald McDonald House family.”
The 2007 “Calls for Kids” Telecast was an enormous success. Thanks to our generous supporters
from the Middle Tennessee community, we raised more than $135,000 to benefit the programs
of RMHC. A huge thank you goes out to Nashville’s ABC affiliate, WKRN News 2 for all
their hard work and their constant support of the House. We would also like to thank our
generous sponsors.

LEAVING A LEGACY
Planned gifts are important for the future of the programs of RMHC as we are better able to plan aheadand know that we will be able to continue providing essential resources for families of children with criticalillnesses. The benefits to our donors are equally important, and many planned giving vehicles offer ways toleave a treasured memory of you and your family for the children and families we will continue to serve. There are many ways to consider leaving a legacy…
Consider a deferred gift, annuity, or trust to integrate your charitable gift with your overall financial, tax and estate planning goals.
• Leave a gift in your will to a charitable organization whose mission is important to you.• Consider using assets such as stocks, bonds, CDs, mutual funds or real estate as charitable gifts.• Encourage others to leave gifts to charities in their wills.
For more information on our planned giving opportunities, please contact us at 615-343-4000.

RONALD McDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF NASHVILLE House Notes
Volunteersare the Heart of Our House!
It’s been an eventful year at the Nashville
Ronald McDonald House with the arrival of
new staff and the departure of an old friend.
The Nashville Ronald McDonald House
welcomes Heather Corum our new
Development Director. Heather is origi-
nally from Illinois but has called Nashville
home for 51⁄2 years. When she is not at
work, you can usually find Heather in a
spin class at the Green Hills Y or going for
a run in Percy Warner Park. She also loves
hiking and just about anything outdoors.
The other thing keeping Heather busy
these days is her fiancé Jason. They are
planning their wedding and honeymoon
with help from everyone at RMH!
In this position, Heather spends her time
making requests for funds and researching
companies, foundations and new funding
prospects. She is also finding new ways to
raise awareness with people in Nashville and
surrounding communities so that we can
carry out our mission.
Our Laymon Curtis came to the Nashville
Ronald McDonald House as a temporary
maintenance man, willing to help out until
the position was filled - 14 years ago! After
all these years of keeping the House together,
he has decided it is time to relax. Laymon
did it all, from plumbing and electrical work
to woodworking and computer support. But
not to worry – he’s not going too far. He now
volunteers once a week!
We also welcomed Chris Curtis as the new
maintenance man. Chris is a native of Nashville
and is married with 3 sons. When he’s not
working at the House, he enjoys restoring comic
books and playing guitar.

RONALD McDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF NASHVILLE House Notes
Jacob Patton is an extremely energetic 3-year-old who
doesn’t look sick. In fact, if it weren’t for his older
brother Gideon, their parents, Steve and Tonya, would have never known anything was
wrong. Gideon’s headaches and seizures were treated incorrectly for years, only to find
out later that he was a victim of a vicious disease. Gideon and Jacob Patton have PGK
(Phosphoglycerate Kinase Deficiency), which is a metabolic disorder that interferes with the
body’s production of energy. Some of the symptoms of this disease are low levels of circulating
red blood cells, mental retardation and paralysis. Since it is a genetic disorder, the entire
Patton family needed to be tested. Steve, Tonya and Gideon’s twin sister Sarah all tested
negative - Jacob was not so lucky. “I was absolutely dumbfounded,” Tonya said when she
found out that both of her sons were affected. PGK has only been diagnosed in about 15
people in the world so far. “It’s a very scary situation when no one really knows what you
are dealing with,” said Tonya.
The doctors at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital decided on a bone marrow transplant to
attempt to stop the progression of the disease. Jacob and his Mom called our House their
home for 58 nights, starting in June 2005. “We couldn’t have done it without the Ronald
McDonald House. It became our home away from home and the staff became our extended
family.” There were a few times when Tonya urgently needed to get Jacob to the hospital
while they were staying at the house. “Being 5 blocks away from the hospital as opposed
to 11⁄2 hours was a sure blessing,” she said Jacob became a fixture in the House, visiting
everyone’s office and running up and down the hallways. His favorite past time was
conserving electricity by turning off everyone’s lights and terrorizing Amy’s pet fish.
Today Jacob is at home enjoying his favorite thing in the world – his red 4-wheeler! We
look forward to his visits when he runs through the door and brightens up the house.
Ann Ice is like a whirlwind when she is here in the House. She comes in and
immediately heads to the kitchens where she knows most of the early morning messes
are made. She isn’t afraid of what she might find there, she jumps right in and empties
and refills dishwashers, puts away food items in storage containers and makes our
housekeeper Paula’s job a little easier on Thursday mornings. After the kitchens, she
turns her attention to helping our Administrative Manager. Ann assists with making
copies, helping with weekly deposits and any other office project that needs to be done.
When the House Operations Committee learned of all the wonderful things Ann
does for our House, she was immediately recruited as president. In addition to all she
does while she is here for her regular House shift, she also scrubbed and shined on
Spring Cleaning Day, then she actually volunteered to help on basement cleaning day.
If that wasn’t enough, she also came and helped the night of our “Family Night Out.”
She’s unstoppable! Another little tidbit about Ann that we must mention, is on each of
these occasions, she brought an incredible dessert that would make your mouth water.
When Ann isn’t doing her all for the Ronald McDonald House, she enjoys
gardening, knitting, reading, and doting on her grandchildren. Ann is retired but you
wouldn’t know it by the pace she sets for herself. She is eager to help anyone in need
and is a wonderful asset to us. We are so glad that when she was looking to get
involved as a volunteer, she found the Ronald McDonald House!
The Nashville office of Colliers Turley Martin Tucker (CTMT) is a
true champion for RMHC. From participating for the past several
years as the Title Sponsor of our CTMT Golf Ball and helping
raise more than $127,000 in 2006 to benefit RMHC, to cooking
meals for our families on a monthly basis and providing all the
delicious food for our Holiday Open House, CTMT has been a
wonderful community partner. Companies like CTMT are critical
to the mission of RMHC because they provide the funds we need
to carry out our programs and continue to “keep families close” as
they are faced with the challenges of having a critically ill child.
Colliers Turley Martin Tucker – Nashville is the dominant player
in the Middle Tennessee commercial real estate market. In 2006,
CTMT Nashville completed more than $575 million in transactions
and leased and managed over 19 million square feet of office, industrial
and retail property. Colliers Turley Martin Tucker is also an owner/
shareholder of Colliers International, the largest real estate federation
in the world, with over 241 offices in 51 countries on six continents
with $37 billion in annual lease and sale transactions in 2005.
Throughout the year, there are many ways for businesses and
organizations to make donations and participate as event sponsors.
Because we must raise 100% of our operating costs, we count on
the support of the community. For more information about sponsorship opportunities or making a donation to RMHC, contact our
Development Director at 615-343-4000 or [email protected].

Local Students Celebrate WorldChildren’s Day by Raising Over $3000!Beginning in 2002 Ronald McDonald House Charities partnered with
McDonald’s Corporation to create World Children’s Day, a worldwide
fundraiser to raise money for RMHC programs around the globe.
With 265 houses, more than 100 family rooms and 29 care mobiles,
the $75 million raised through World Children’s Day has become a
huge contribution to RMHC.
In 2006, The Nashville
Ronald McDonald
House invited school
children from Tennessee
and southern Kentucky
to participate in our
own World Children’s
Day. Over 25,000
students from 56 schools were challenged to collect the aluminum tabs
for the 2nd annual Pull Tab Collection Challenge. Through this
exciting event we collected almost 8,000 pounds of pull tabs, and raised
$3,000 for operation expenses at the house. In celebration, we invited
all of the participating schools to visit the House for hot chocolate
and donuts; and to help fill the large recycling container with their
tabs. Richland Elementary School was the top collector this year,
and all of the top collectors were announced by Ronald himself
following the dumping of the tabs.
You can help children locally and around the world by participating in
this year’s World Children’s Day on November 20, 2007.
Lunch & LearnJoin us for an hour to Lunch & Learn!
Our newest initiative is a free, hour-long
lunch and tour focused on the programs
of Ronald McDonald House Charities and
how we serve children and families. RMHC staff and volunteers will
provide information about how our programs work and how to get
involved as an individual, group, church, organization, or company.
Anyone who would like to know more about the programs of RMHC
is welcome to attend. Longtime volunteers and supporters as well as
anyone who is unfamiliar with our programs are encouraged to attend.
Each Lunch & Learn event will be limited to 8-10 attendees. Lunch
& Learn sessions will be held on the third Wednesday of every month
from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. RMHC will provide the lunch and
materials, so we request that guests RSVP by 9:00 a.m. on the day of
the event. We are happy to schedule Lunch & Learn events for groups
of four or more people who cannot attend the regularly scheduled
sessions. These events are held at the Nashville Ronald McDonald
House, located at 2144 Fairfax Avenue in Nashville, Tennessee.
