Statistics

•Birth length is 80-90cm

•Adults are about 2.5 m long and weigh 120 kg. •Sexual maturity is reached at 10 years in females and 12 years in males.

•Lifespan is approximately 40 years.

•Spotted Dolphins have a long thin beak. The upper and lower jaws are darkly colored but are separated by thin white “lips”.

Habitat

•Pan tropical Spotted dolphins live mainly in tropical or warm waters, and are found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans.

•They are often seen around islands and there are populations in the Eastern Tropical Pacific, the Western North Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico and around Hawaii.

Conservation Status

•Not endangered

•Hunted

•Pan tropical spotted dolphins are considered to be in Lower Risk according to Conservation Dependent in the IUCN Redlist.

•Spotted Dolphins consume mostly fish and crustaceans.

•They have a big appetite to consume

most things.

•When spotted Dolphins are born, they are born without spots. After they mature they get their spots!

•They usually swim along with Spinner Dolphins!

•They will form groups ranging from 5-15 or 1-50, although groups of hundred have often been formed!
