Smoking is not allowed in any part of the Pilbeam Theatre or other Council venues. The use of cameras and recording devices during performances is illegal and penalties for infringement of copyright in this way are severe. Please ensure all mobile phones are switched off before entering the auditorium. Crying or fidgety children can be a distraction to other theatregoers and performers, so if you bring your small child to the theatre, please book an aisle seat in case you need to exit the auditorium.

Friends of the Theatre is an organisation where members volunteer to work in various aspects of the theatre such as ushering, bar, candy bar and program selling. Friends receive discounts to many of the shows listed in Spotlight, and also receive this newsletter mailed direct to them. Each time a Friend of the Theatre works they receive a Performance Work Voucher, which is exchanged for tickets to events. Unlimited seats are available in exchange for Performance Work Vouchers on events in Spotlight bearing the blue star symbol. For other events, voucher seats are limited to a total of six seats per performance. Further details as well as membership forms are available from the Box Office.

Choral Festival 2012 Hundreds of children will come together in song for a night of delightful choral music in the 2012 Choral Festival. The children are chosen from more than a dozen state schools from Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast. Manhattan Short Fi lm FestivalFilmgoers in Rockhampton will unite with audiences in 203 cities spanning six continents to view and judge the next generation of filmmakers for the 14th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival.

Swan LakeAppearing for the first time in Rockhampton, the Russian National Ballet Theatre will perform the eternal classic, Swan Lake. Under the direction of Company Director Evgeny Amosov, the company has received a worldwide reputation for excellence in classical ballet. With its fairy tale story of a beautiful princess, a passionate prince, and the evil spell that threatens their happiness together, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake was composed in 1875 and is to this day one of the most loved classical ballets.

2012 Dance Festival Come celebrate with us at the tenth annual Rockhampton Dance Festival in September/October school holidays. Competition will run from Thursday 27 September to Saturday 6th October. The Festival Concert and Trophy presentation will be Sunday 7 October commencing 2pm. Everyone entering the theatre during the Festival and the Dance Festival 10 Year Celebration Concert must have a ticket (including competitors). Rockhampton Grammar School Music FestivalThe Rockhampton Grammar School Music Festival is on again in 2012 with some great performances by primary and secondary school students. Some of the highlights of this year’s festival include musical selections from Grease the secondary musical and Pirates of Penzance Jr, the primary musical, vocal items from the senior choir, chamber choir and the primary choirs, the memorable signing choirs, stage band, big band, symphonic band, concert bands, string orchestra, jazz ensemble, primary rock band and talented student soloists.

Our Priceless Past Exhibit ionIn 2012, this exhibition is a combined cultural project between The Rockhampton Mirror, Rockhampton Regional Council and the Girls’ Grammar School. It combines the artforms of storytelling, oral history interviews, writing and photography. Twenty local seniors generously shared their stories with student writers leading to a display which celebrates how individual lives impact on a community and makes Rockhampton the culturally vibrant city it is today.

HairsprayRockhampton Musical Union Choir presents the multi award winning feel-good musical Hairspray. Set in the early 1960s in Baltimore, the story centres around Tracy Turnblad, a plump girl whose dream is to dance on a TV music show. She makes it onto the show and becomes a celebrity overnight. The songs include 1960’s-style dance music and “downtown” rhythm and blues in a fast paced family musical that is sure to please.

Combined Schools Secondary ConcertThe 2012 Combined Schools Secondary Concert will showcase talented music students from State High Schools in Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast. The night will feature invited musicians in the Honours Symphony and Honours Stage Band as well as Concert Bands, String Orchestras and Chamber Ensembles. A highlight will be a performance by the winners of the Central Regional Education Queensland Fanfare Competition, Yeppoon State High School Concert Band.

Imperial Russian Bal let Sleeping BeautyFollowing their 2011 sell out performance of A Festival of Russian Ballet, the Imperial Russian Ballet company return to Australia with their presentation of the classic masterpiece Sleeping Beauty in three acts. The Imperial Russian Ballet Company combines the unity and integrity of the great Russian ballet schools where traditions are passed on from one generation to another.Sleeping Beauty is a ballet that has enchanted audiences for generations.

More than meets the eyeStanley Nichols writes successful children’s stories under the pen name of Grandma Letty but is desperate to be known in his own right as a serious author. When Grandma Letty is voted “Grandmother of the Year” and Stanley’s house is besieged by reporters and photographers, Stanley is afraid that the exposure will jeopardize the chances of his serious new novel, and so he has to produce a Grandma with farcical results.
