    Why HarborSprings ShouldHave A RecreationCenter

    Eric Thomas

Residents of the town wouldsurely pay a little extra taxes ifthey knew it was going where itwould do 'the most good, that isthe reason why we should have arecreation center in HarborSprings. Everybody is for the id eaand it should go over better thanit did before. Students would goto the center instead of hangingaround downtown thinking ofsome kind of mischief to do. Thisrecreation center would surely bean improvement for the Harb orSprings student body and grown-

Pro Or ConShall we or shall we not have

compulsory military training inthe United States? This was thequestion the speech class , had asits topic for its first panel discussion. t went after it with hammer and tongs,

Burt Lamkin, Eric Thomas andMel Johnston had the affirmativewith Allene Stolt, Roger Planck, and Garth Holiday on the negative side. Judges were: Linda,

    John and T h e r e~ a .The discussion started off rath

er slowly for it was our first panel and all participants were nervous and unsure of themselves. However, they soon warmed totheir subject. In fact, it becameso warm by the end of the period some people were nearlyscorched

The discussion was continuednext day and was opened to theclass who took full advantage ofthe opportunity. t was still goi.ngstrong when the period ended. Infact it was continued out in thehall However , it was decided the

discussion had gone far enoughand was dropped. While the classdidn't settle any weighty problems, it was exceedingly interest-

ing and started the class on discussions. We are to continue thistype of work in using problems ofteen-agers and sociological problems of adults.
