Highlights Human Rights
Kerry Kennedy, visited the Museum on
September 8 and gave an educational
tour of the Museum’s current exhibit,
Speak Truth to Power. Kennedy
is President of the Robert F. Kennedy
Center for Justice & Human Rights, who
organized and provided the exhibit.
A tribute to the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act,
the stirring and insightful, photographic exhibit features Eddie
Adams’ powerful portraits of human rights defenders from around
the world and interviews by Ms. Kennedy who calls the exhibition,
“a sympathetic and strength-giving portrait of the power of personal resolve
and determination in the face of oppression and injustice.”

45TH ANNIVERSARY FILM ON THE FIELD EVENT:
You Came ‘Up the Country’ and Raised $5,500
More than 1,000 of you braved a chilly
summer night on August 15 to celebrate
the 45th Anniversary of the Woodstock
festival by watching the four-hour
Director’s Cut of the 1970 Oscar®-winning
documentary Woodstock.
Festival alumni along with music and history
buffs of all ages gathered around a 30’x40’
foot screen and relived some of the greatest
rock ‘n’ roll performances in history. “It was
the closest thing to actually being at the
Woodstock festival, and a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to see it WHERE IT HAPPENED,”
said one attendee.
The funds raised that evening will be
directed to the preservation of the historic
Woodstock festival site.

Speak Truth to Power is on view through December 31, and is made possible in part with support from The Fishman Family and Majestic Drug Company.
Nick and Bobbi Ercoline, the famed couple on the Woodstock album cover, visit festivalfield on the 45th anniversary weekend.
Thank you for spending time with us at Bethel Woods this summer at
the Pavilion shows, in the Museum, and at the Event Gallery. It truly was
a season packed with entertainment, history, and special events as we
marked the 45th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair.
Our fall season features many more experiences in the arts & humanities.
Thanks to your continued generosity, we expect to build on our offerings
year after year.
On tap this fall season are a variety of folk, classical, reggae, country
and cabaret performances in the Event Gallery, education programs for
children, and film and speaker series.
We’re extremely proud to present the Museum’s newest Special
Exhibit from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights,
Speak Truth to Power. It’s a collection of seering large scale portraits of
human rights defenders around the world.
On the lighter side of life, our Harvest Festival, Wine Festival and
Craft Beer Festival bring us together in the splendor of autumn to
celebrate all that is good. I hope you’ll join us.
With your continued support we will draw even more inspiration from our
unique place in history to encourage individual creativity and expression.
Sincerely,
Darlene FedunDarlene Fedun

Saturdays at the Woods
YOU CAN HELP US CONTINUE TO INSPIRE, EDUCATE, AND EMPOWER MORE CHILDREN IN OUR REGION. PLEASE CONSIDER A CONTRIBUTION TO SUPPORT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING.
Education Manager, Mark Robinson is
taking Acting Out! to the Boys & Girls
Club at the RJ Kaiser Middle School in
Monticello, where Boys and Girls Club
Director Barbi Neuman expects between 30
and 40 kids will participate from September
30 to November 18.
The acting class will use improvisation and
acting games to empower participants
to build self-confidence, explore
creative expression, and give them
an opportunity to use their own voice to
inspire change. The program will
culminate with a November 18 visit to Bethel
Woods to see the museum and have their
final acting class in the Event Gallery.
Said Robinson, “Going to the Boys & Girls
Club rather than busing them to us every
weekend will create an enormous saving in
bussing costs. They will still get the Bethel
Woods experience through their final visit
and we can provide this great opportunity to
a wider range of kids.”
Students who participate in the arts are
four times more likely to perform well
in school. Donor contributions help us
develop and present programs that empower
childrens’ creativity.
Sixty-four young people took part in
this year’s Summer Stages programs
at the Conversatory. Broadway in
Bethel (grades 7-12), and Youth Opera
Experience (grades 2-6), culminated in
final performances of Godspell and
Rumpelstiltskin. The first ever First Bows
welcomed children (ages 4-6).
