PB/BOP SURFINGIntermediate surf tag team members 2013 at Tay Street, Mt Maunganui for the PB/BOP Bay inter-intermediate schools competition on Friday 15th March 2013

The competition was held in small almost perfect offshore conditions at Tay Street. The conditions allowed the surfers who were at all levels from first time competitors to NZ Grom series competitors to show what they could do. The teams of four had 7 minutes each to run out and catch 2 scoring waves before coming in and running to tag the next team member. The last surfer had to nominate their best wave as a double whammy which meant they then had their points doubled. Our teams all pushed themselves to achieve their beyond their personal bests both myself and their parents were very proud of them. Ms. Young.

NZ CUP BOYS CRICKET

FUN DAY FLURO GOLF DAY

T.I.S. vs John Paul College - 14 March

We won the toss and elected to bat first. Taylor Bettelheim Rm 17 and Marcel Collett Rm 19 got us off to a healthy start with a 102 partnership. After they were retired the run rate began to pick up putting pressure back on their bowlers. Alex Smith Rm 37 and Wiremu Leef Rm 36 finished off the innings getting us to a total of 147/2. Marcel and Taylor top scored with Taylor getting 56 n.o. and Marcel with 37 n.o. Our bowling started with a wicket in the first over and it all went down hill from there for John Paul College. Finn Sears Rm 13 picked up 3 wickets and Wiremu got 4 wickets. Their batsmen only managed a total of 58 all out. That completed a 81 run win.

TIS v Te Puke - 25 March

After blow drying and sweeping our pitch Te Puke arrived for the last pool match. We won the toss and decided to put Te Puke into bat as the pitch was still quite wet. Their opening pair started slowly and it took a while to collect a wicket. Once we made that break through the rest fell in quick succession. Te Puke were 60/4 off their 20 overs. After lunch Marcel and Taylor opened the batting with Marcel getting 44 n.o. and Taylor 27 n.o. with our team comfortably winning without loss of any wickets.

Gone FishingOn March 22 2013 I went in a fishing competition. On Friday we left to the Tauranga wharf to where my Grandpa's boat is.  We left at 7:30am and went past Motiti Island to one of our favourite spots. We caught a couple of kingfish and snappers and then we moved on. We went past the town point in Whakatane and to the entrance to the boat club. We parked up and got ready for tonight. That night me, my brother and my friend Dylan put a line out and caught a few spotties. Dad’s work mates arrived to come in the fishing competition. We then filled up with water and set off. I had to drive the boat so my Grandpa could get the lures ready so we could catch a marlin. When Grandpa came back up I went down to the bottom to have a look at the lines. All of a sudden one of the reels started running, so I pull the lever and started reeling it in. It was so hard to reel in but I pulled it in. It was about 4 metres away from the boat when all of a sudden it ripped the line off of the swivel. I was so gutted and walked inside. After that day of fishing we came back to the harbour with 8 kahawai, 16 snapper, 3 kingfish and 3 cod. When we went to weigh in my kahawai it was 2.54 kgs and my snapper was 2.03 kgs. At the prize giving my brother Seth won a stainless steel smoker, my Dad’s friend Brett Wright won a cordless home phone, headphones and an alarm clock. I won a tool set and Dad won a gaff with an iki spike. After prize giving we went back to the boat and had a sleep. In the morning when I woke up we were already leaving and we were nearly to the fishing spot for the day. When we got to the last stop off the day we were pulling up so many fish that it wasn’t funny. We caught 13 trevally and 17 snapper. After that we left to the Tauranga harbour. We packed our stuff and went home.Kullen Burgess Rm 41
