The theme this year is Reading is my Secretand we have lots of excing acvies planned to com- memorate the week. We have been recruing teachers for next year to expand our team recently and I am delighted to say that we have some high quality candidates who will be joining our team in 2020. At the moment, it looks like we will have about 540 children at Oakwood next year as enrolments connue to grow. To help with planning, if you know you will be moving from our school next year, please let us know in the office. Swimming Lessons Swimming lessons commence on Monday for the next two weeks. We look forward to the children making the most of this opportunity. Whilst swimming does force us to make changes and be flexible, it is an important life skill and part of our curriculum. Thank you for supporng this im- portant as- pect of your childs edu- caon. We love that people are posive about our school, but I want to discourage you from making negave comments about other schools on social media. We dont make our candle shine brighter by blowing other peoples candles out!If you do have some feedback for us, which is less posive, please email or call us rather than posng this on social media. I thank you all for the support you give to our school and do appreciate when you share that posivity with your networks! Dates to Remember In the coming weeks, we will be creating a new Year 2/3 class to relieve the enrolment pressure in this area of the school. Whilst change is never easy, we will be working to minimise the disrupon to students and families. I think we all agree that classes of 20 are more desirable than classes of 26, which is the current situaon! All families of children moving will be consulted with personally and we will put things in place to make the transion smooth. We are in the closing stages of employing an amazing teacher for this new class and the class will be based in Room 13, which is a beauful space. A big thank you to Mrs Mathews who is giving up her Spanish room for this class – she is a valued member of the Oakwood team and has proved this with her flexibility and team focussed atude! Facebook Our school Facebook page is a posive page, aimed at highlighng the wonderful things that go on in our school and for keeping you up to date with events and informaon. We are very proud of our school and this page mirrors our posive school culture that is part of our school vision. Please be mindful of this when posng on the page and consider whether an email to the school may be a beer way to find the answer to your question. Recently, on a Facebook group not linked with the school, there were very positive comments made about our school, which is always nice. Some comments then went on to say negave things about other local schools and encouraged parents from other schools to enrol at Oakwood.

Dates to Remember

In the coming weeks, we will be creating a new Year 2/3 class to relieve the enrolment pressure in this area of the school. School Disco Our second school disco for the year was well attended last Friday with approximately 260 students grooving to the beats of DJ Drew. Despite the chill in the air the atmosphere was warm, and the students had such great fun. Thank you to our event coordinators and all those who volunteered to make it an amazing event.

Fathers’ Day Stall A stall will be running in Week 6 for all the children to purchase a gift for their Dad, Granddad or special loved one in time for Fathers’ Day. Each class will visit the stall on either Wednesday 28 or Thursday 29 August. There will be an initial limit of one gift per student. Once all classes have had the opportunity to visit the stall, we will open it up to any students who wish to purchase additional gifts. Each gift costs $5 and we kindly ask that the money for any gifts be handed to the class teacher in an envelope or zip lock bag on Wednesday 28 August. We have plenty of gifts that don’t specify dad and that are non-gender specific for those wishing to purchase for other special loved ones.
