classtolearnallaboutbikemainte-
nance.
Muchtotheirdelight,thetalkwasgiven
byPinderSingh,awell-knownBMXrid-
er.Hegavethechildrenlotsofadvice
andtaughtthemhowtotightenthe
brakes,pumpupthetyres,repairpunc-
turesandaltertheseatheight.Before
leaving,hekindlysigneda
fewautographsforhisstar-
struckfans!Ahugethank
youtoHalfordsforsucha
generousdonation-allthe
childrenwillhavetheoppor-
tunitytousethesebikes
withinP.E.lessons.

schools.
They all tried their best and are looking

pulseanddiscussedthe
typesofinstrumentsused
inthepiece.MrsParry
alsointroducedthechil-
drentoafantastictune,
whichgoesbythenameof
LeanonMe.Thosefrom
karaokeclubarefamiliar
withthesongsoreallyen-
joyedsingingitwithcon/i-
dence.Theonlywayit
couldhavebeenbetterisif
ourfabulouslyfantastic
teacher,MrJohnston,was
teachingus(nooffence
MrsParry).

ticday!Firstwewenttovisitthe
meerkats;theyweremuchcuterthan
wehadexpectedthemtobe.Nextwe
wenttothepenguins.Theywereall
veryinterestingtowatch.At/irstthey
wereontherocksandthentheywent
intothewaterandwewatchedthem
swimunderwaterthroughaspecial
window.Itwasamazing!Theywere
veryfastanditlookedliketheywere
splashingtheir/lippersatus.
Thenwewenttoseethetapirs.We
wereveryinterestedinthemaswe
havebeenlearningabouttheminour
rainforestprojectsthistermandthey
didn’tletusdown.Theyweremuch
biggerthanweexpectedthemtobe!
Wethoughttheymightbeshyas
whenwearrived…theyleft!
NextwevisitedaBorneolonghouse.
Therewerelotsofbirdsandplants
thatmightliveintherainforest.We
alsosawadisplayofpeoplewholive
intherainforest.Itwasinterestingto
lookattheclothestheywear,theclay
potstheymakeandthebasketsthey
weave.Thenwewenttoseethespi-
der-monkeysaswehavelearntabout
themaswell.Therewasaladygiving
aninformationtalkandfeedingthem
andwelearntlotsofinterestingfacts.
AfterlunchwewenttotheDiscovery
Centreforarainforestexplorers
workshop.Nickyaskeduslotsof
questionsabouttherainforestand
wasveryimpressedwithour
knowledge.Shethentolduslotsmore
factsandweevengottotouchacock-
roachandtortoise.Someofuswerea
bitnervous(asyoucanseefromthe
photos!)butmostofushadatry.We
weresurprisedthecockroachfelt
smoothandsoftlikeanail.
Nextwewenttothebutter/lyforest.
Lotsofbutter/lieslandedonus.They
weresobeautiful.Thenwewentto
visitallthedifferentmonkeysthey
haveincludingtheOrang-Utansand
Chimpanzees.Thelargestchimpanzee
wasveryshybecausehekepthiding
fromthecamera!Thebabywasfunny
becausehekeptcoveringhimselfwith
hay.
Ourfavouritepartoftheafternoon
wasvisitingtheelephantsandgi-
raffes.Wewereamazedathowbigthe
elephantswereandhowtallthegi-
raffeswere.Theywereveryimpres-
sive.Aswewalkedthroughtheele-
phantforestwesawGanesh!Wehave
beenlearningabouthiminourRE
lessonssoitwaslovelytoseeareal
statueandtemple.
Overallwehadawonderfulday,even
theteachershadagreattime!They
wereveryimpressedwithourbehav-
