Selecting Teams:Teacher will choose one coach for each of the six teams outside of class, not in front of other students in class. The “Coaches” will be:John Jingleheimer- SmithHaymitch AbernathyLiam PayneKatniss EverdeenTaylor SwiftJennifer Lawrence

Method of Selecting Teams:

● Skill Level/ Fitness LevelThe teacher should make sure that the teams are as even as possible when it comes to skill level. There should be a mix of all skill levels on each team, so therefore none of the teams should be much better than any other team.

● GenderThe teacher should split the teams up with an even amount of ladies and gentlemen on each team.

● Leader or FollowerThe teacher should make sure that they choose the leaders to be the coaches of the team, so that student chosen knows how to lead a group of people. The coaches should also have confidence in themselves, and therefore the coach should choose them only if the person displays this.

● Personalities of StudentsThere should be a wide range of personalities on each team, so that everyone gets the chance to mingle and speak with others whom they usually wouldn’t.

● Absent OftenThe teacher should make sure that two or more people who are absent often are not placed on the same team.

● Friends with other StudentsThe teacher should split up friends so that each person can talk with others in the class and meet new people and new personalities.

Traditional Rules of Nitro BallObjectScore more points than the opposing team by passing, striking, or hitting the Nitro Ball over the net so the opponents cannot legally return the ball.DirectionsNumber of Players: General guidelines are 4 players per team for High School or College.Court Setup: A typical court measures 78’L x 36’W (the size of a doubles tennis court), with the service line 21’ from the net and the baseline 39’ from the net. The net should be 36” to 42” high. Play indoors with the Nitro Ball net for an official Nitro Ball court or outdoors on a tennis court.Games and Scoring: Nitro Ball uses rally scoring in which a point is awarded each time the ball is served. The first team to score 21 points wins (team must win by 2 points with 25 as the scoring cap). The team that wins 2 out of 3 games wins the match.Serving: Players take turns serving in a clockwise rotation, with the server standing at a pre-determined location (between the service line and baseline on a conventional tennis court). Other teammates must be on the court when the ball is served, with two players between the service line and the net and the other two between the service line and baseline. The server can hit the ball with a conventional underhand serve or bounce the ball on the court then hit with an underhand serve. Overhand and sidearm serves are not allowed. 1 serve for High School or College players, (No mistakes).Game Play: Once the ball is served, players can move in any formation on the court. The serving team continues to serve until the other team scores a point; the serve is then awarded to that team. A service fault occurs if the ball fails to make it over the net, touches a player of the serving team, strikes anything other than the net, lands out of bounds, or the server’s foot steps over the serving line. If this occurs, the serve is awarded to the other team.

Game Play:● The ball MUST bounce off the court before EVERY strike (except the serve).● A player may not hit the ball twice consecutively.● Each team is given three hits per side.● Kicking or heading the ball is not allowed.● Blocks are illegal as the ball must hit the ground before every strike (this includes

attempted blocks/passes and intentional/unintentional strikes).● The ball can be struck with one hand or two hands.

Scoring. A point is scored when:● The ball bounces twice on the opponents’ side.

Each team will stand on one side of the court outside of the boundaries, as if they were about to serve the volleyball over the net. Each person on a team will have five chances to hit the volleyball into one of the taped squares on the other side of the net. Newspaper Article:

UCONN Takes the CakeWritten By: E. DellaVolpe on December 8, 2014.

Team members, Liam Payne, Alex Pettyfer, Peeta Mellark, Selena Gomez and Nicki Minaj won the NCAA Nitro Ball Tournament this year. The average winning margin was twelve points per game. Team captain Liam Payne led the team with the most passes completed with teammates and over the net. Together, the team combined for a total of sixteen mistakes the entire tournament. That sets the tournament record by over ten mistakes.

When interviewed at the end of game two, Alex Pettyfer, the fitness instructor for the team, said, “Our team is completely ready to win every game. We have multiple strategies and tactics that we are going to use during different games, and we are prepared for whatever is thrown our way.” Alex’s comments held true throughout the entire NCAA Tournament.

UCONN seemed to always have the advantage in every game, winning key points throughout the matches. Making very few mistakes was the teams’ strong point. UCONN seemed to mesh very well, and were constantly talking and calling for the volleyball throughout every game and every point. When I spoke to coach Liam Payne he said that, “I am very proud of how well my team and I are working together and talking. It is great to see how all of our work in the pre- season is paying off.”

It’s safe to say that UCONN will be coming back next year as the number one team to beat!
