1. Sew (1) 2” x 9” Fabric B strip to each side of (1) 9” Fabric A square. Sew (1) 2” x 12” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A square to make (1) Unit 1 square (Fig. 1). Trim the unit to measure 10 ½” square. Repeat to make (4) Unit 1 squares total.

2. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 10 ½” Fabric C strip to each side of (1) Unit 1 square. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 12 ½” Fabric C strip to the top and to the bottom of the Unit 1 square to make (1) Unit 2 square (Fig. 2). Repeat to make (4) Unit 2 squares total.

3. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric E strip to each end of (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric D strip to make (1) Unit 3 strip (Fig. 3). Repeat to make (16) Unit 3 strips total.

4. Sew (1) 2 ½” Fabric F square to each end of (1) Unit 3 strip to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew (1) Unit 3 strip to each side of (1) Unit 2 square to make the middle row. Sew the (3) rows together to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 4). Repeat to make (4) Block One squares total.

Topper Assembly (Follow the Topper Layout while assembling the Topper.)7. Sew (1) Block One square to each side of (1) Unit 4 strip to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row.

8. Sew (1) Unit 5 strip to each side of (1) 6” Fabric I square to make the middle row.

9. Sew the (3) rows from Steps 7-8 together to make the Center Block.

10. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 38” Fabric B strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 1 ½” x 40” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

11. Sew (1) 5 ½” x 40” Fabric J strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 5 ½” Fabric H square to each end of (1) 5 ½” x 40” Fabric J strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the Topper.

12. Layer and quilt as desired.

13. Sew the (6) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric K strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

14. Bind as desired.

5. Sew together (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric G strip, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric D strip, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric C strip, (1) 4 ½” Fabric H square, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric C strip, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric D strip and (1) (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric G strip lengthwise and in that order from top to bottom. Sew (1) 1 ¼” x 16 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of the newly sewn strip to make (1) Unit 4 strip (Fig. 5). Repeat to make a second Unit 4 strip.

6. Sew together (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric G strip, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric D strip, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric C strip, (1) 4 ½” Fabric H square, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric C strip, (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric D strip and (1) (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric G strip lengthwise and in that order from left to right. Sew (1) 1 ¼” x 16 ½” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the newly sewn strip to make (1) Unit 5 strip (Fig. 6). Repeat to make a second Unit 5 strip.

3. Sew together (1) Fabric D-Template 1 triangle and (1) Fabric C-Template 1 triangle along the long sides to make (1) Unit 8 rectangle (Fig. 10). The unit should measure 3” x 5 ½”. Repeat to make (8) Unit 8 rectangles total.

4. Repeat Step 3 and refer to Figures 11-13 for fabric identification, placement and orientation to make (8) Unit 9 rectangles, (8) Unit 10 rectangles and (8) Unit 11 rectangles.

Sew (1) 3” Fabric E square to the top and to the bottom of (1) Unit 12 strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew (1) strip to each side of the Unit 6 square.

8. Sew (1) 2 ½” x15 ½” Fabric F strip to each side of the block from Step 7 to make (1) Place Mat 1 top (Fig. 16). Repeat to make a second Place Mat 1 top.

9. Repeat Steps 7-8 and refer to Figure 17 for component identification, placement and orientation to make (2) Place Mat 2 tops.

5. Sew (1) Unit 8 rectangle to the left end of (1) Unit 9 rectangle at the Fabric C ends to make (1) Unit 12 strip (Fig. 14). Repeat to make (8) Unit 12 strips total.

6. Sew (1) Unit 10 rectangle to the left end of (1) Unit 11 rectangle at the Fabric G ends to make (1) Unit 13 strip (Fig. 15). Repeat to make (8) Unit 13 strips total.

10. Layer and quilt as desired.

11. Sew the (8) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric B strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press. Cut the strip into (4) equal strips.

12. Bind as desired.
