Baja SAEINDIA is a national level competition that simulates real-worldengineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students aretasked to design, build, test and race a single-seated off-road vehicle that willsurvive the severe punishment of rough terrain at Pithampur in February 2013.

The objective of the competition is to provide SAE studentmembers with a challenging project that involves the planning andmanufacturing tasks found when introducing a new product in the

consumer market. Students design the Baja car as if it is aprototype for a company, so cost, appearance, reliability, andperformance all become key factors in judging. Rule guidelinesplace restrictions on the engine and frame, testing the imagination,knowledge, and creativity of the students.

Annual Events Organized:

The organizing body, SAEINDIA, is India's leading resource for mobilitytechnology. It is an affiliate society of SAE International registered as an Indiannon-profit engineering and scientific society dedicated to the advancement ofmobility industry in India.

Its efforts are on now with a single minded purpose to propelthe automotive engineering profession by focusing on three trendsoccurring in the automotive industry today that affect all

automotive engineers and engineering societies. The first of thesetrends is simultaneous engineering the integration of the roles ofdesign engineer, manufacturing engineer, supplier, marketer, andplanner. The second trend is the increased reliance of automanufacturers on suppliers and design houses to support thedesign and manufacturing functions. A third factor crucial to aninternationalized auto industry is standards as communication, as a

basis for regulation, and as an aid to interchangeability.

IIT Indore has already emerged as a prime contender, being the first and onlynew IIT to qualify virtual Baja. Our team has made it through among 262 teams fromall over the country. We also beat notable colleges like IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IITJodhpur, etc. to move into the final round.

We are right on time with the procurement of equipment and parts and havealready finished fabricating our roll cage. The vehicle should be ready after all testingand inspection checks by 15thJanuary, 2013!
