InvitationThe Organising Committee of the 5th International Tracheostomy Symposium (ITS) is pleased to invite you to partner and participate in this exciting event on Friday October 11th 2019. The International Tracheostomy Symposium (ITS) is increasingly recognised as the premier event for tracheostomy specialists, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, patients and families and industry partners to grow and learn together.

Hosted by:

2

• Austin Health teams: • Tracheostomy Review and Management Service (TRAMS) www.tracheostomyteam.org• The Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS) • Intensive Care Unit • The Victorian Spinal Cord Service (VSCS)

• The Global Tracheostomy Collaborative (GTC) www.globaltrach.org

• The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne (RCH) www.rch.org.au

Background The highly successful inaugural (2011) and 2nd ITS (2014) were hosted by Austin Health in Melbourne with over 600 medical professionals from 11 countries attending. The 3rd ITS (2016) and 4th ITS (2018) were then hosted in the USA respectively by Johns Hopkins Medical Centre (Baltimore) and by UT Southwestern Medical Centre (Texas) together with the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative (GTC).

The GTC was formed in 2012 by Dr David Roberson, Harvard and Boston Children’s Hospital, together with leaders in tracheostomy to create the world first tracheostomy quality collaborative aimed at improving tracheostomy care around the world. Austin Health TRAMS is a founding member of the GTC and the lead Asia Pacific site. Around the world, there are now 48 member hospitals, 1500 professional and 130 family members of the GTC.

The ITS has grown to attract attendance from a diverse group of medical specialists, patients and families. It is an exciting and unique meeting that has high energy and high exposure to those interested in tracheostomy care and quality improvement.

Aims

The symposium themes of Innovate, Improve and Inspire will be reinforced through out all sessions. We aim to partner and promote safer tracheostomy care and to advance research in this specialty area. The meeting will consist of international keynote speakers, scientific papers, patient and family sessions, panel discussions and poster presentations. Both adult and paediatric topics will be addressed. The 5th ITS is offered as an adjunct meeting to the World Congress of Intensive Care 2019.
