A n estimated 1.1 million people in the USA are living with HIV, including around 166,000 who

are unaware of their status. It is estimated that 30% of new HIV infections are transmitted by people who are living with undiagnosed HIV, making increasing access to testing and counseling a fundamental priority for HIV prevention.

African Americans are more affected by HIV than any other ethnic group. This group accounted for 44% of all new HIV infections in 2014 despite only making up 12% of the population. At the end of 2014, an estimated 471,500 African American/black people were living with HIV, making up 43% of the total number of people living with HIV. One in six were unaware of their status. In an effort to inform, educate, and empower, Black Nurses Rock will host two booths during the Essence Music Festival “Nurses Trip 2018” with 25 nurses who will run the booth providing literature, education, and condoms to all who visit our booth. Black Nurses Rock is a national association, who addresses health and social issues important to the African-American community.

We are excited to invite you to sponsor and support this fun and educational event. This event will bring together nurses from across the nation to New Orleans as well our large

community of over 195,000 followers who look to New Orleans as a premier destination for universities, hospitals, and vacations. Not only will our events be educational, but fun for all the nurses who participate.

To make this event successful, we need your help. Partners like you, support our mission as volunteer workers in the community. Our nurses are dedicated to educating and promoting health.
