Nightwood Theatre, Canada’s premiere women’s theatre company and one of the most vital theatre companies in the country, presents the 6th annual Lawyer Show! Supported by a team of professional directors, coaches and crew, 36 members of the legal community will take the stage in May 2015 to perform William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost. The Lawyer Show is a fundraiser for Nightwood Theatre, a registered charitable organization that forges creative alliances among women artists from diverse backgrounds in order to develop and produce provocative Canadian Theatre. Aside from learning new skills and having fun, participants build morale, network with colleagues in a unique environment and engage with the community. Nightwood Theatre’s Lawyer Show has seen unprecedented success over the past five years; each year performances consistently sell out, sponsorships increase, and more and more lawyers approach us to take part in this incredible show. In 2014 we were able to move our production into The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, which has greater seating capacity, a high level of prestige and a fantastic location in the downtown core. This growth, which was supported by our sponsors, allowed us to increase our revenue by 36%, all of which went towards Nightwood’s charitable initiatives.

I loved being part of The Lawyer Show. In addition to giving me a way to support Canada's premier women's theatre company, it introduced me to an incredible community of lawyers who demonstrate the best traditions of collegiality and creativity in our profession. I'd do it

again and again and again! - Sabrina A. Bandali, Barrister & Solicitor

NIGHTWOOD THEATRE

Nightwood: Audience, Exposure & Community

Nightwood’s 11,000+ audience is as multi-cultural and multi-faceted as Canada itself. With a high turnout and donor support base across the GTA (and across the country), the company is an ever-growing institution that cultivates audience loyalty through both its phenomenal record of top-quality productions and its commitment to development and community outreach.

The last national study concluded that approximately 59% of Canada’s theatre-going audience is female. Women aged 30-65 represent the largest demographic of Nightwood Theatre’s audiences. Nightwood has a growing base of community and professional partnerships, with increasing gains with women’s networking groups. Since 2006, over 50 women’s associations have partnered with Nightwood in events ranging from group sales to special events. Some examples include Women in Capital Markets, Women’s Executive Network, Canadian Association of Women Executives and Entrepreneurs, Company of Women, Women Entrepreneurs of Canada, and International Association of Business Communicators. In 2005 41.2% of the population 15 or older (15 million Canadians) attended a concert or a performance. Out of this group, 22.6% attended a theatrical performance. 17.4% of the population 15 or older attended theatre performances between 1-4 times per year (4.5 million Canadians).
