ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONComing home from war is not easy. Through a partnership with Weill Cornell Medical Center, the Headstrong Project provides cost-free, bureaucracy-free, and confidential mental healthcare treatment to Iraq and Afghanistan combat veterans.

THE NUMBERS ARE STAGGERING

Nearly 400,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans report symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as of December 31, 2015. The VA estimates we lose 22.7 veterans a day to suicide with 41% higher risk of suicide for deployed veterans compared to the general U.S. population.

Headstrong Project’s integrated individually tailored treatment program allows veterans to choose different modalities of treatment: individual, group, or online sessions. Not only does the veteran receive treatment but there is also support available for their loved ones. Headstrong Project practices state of the art therapy techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which employs bilateral stimulation while the patient is recalling traumatic memories, allowing the brain to process effectively. We also offer substance abuse treatment, psychotherapy, affect regulation instruction, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

To combat the growing number of veterans with PTSD the Headstrong Project continues to expand into different cities throughout the United States. Currently the headstrong Project has nine clinicians in the New York metro area and ten in the San Diego area. Clinicians range from psychologists, psychiatrists, and clinical social workers.

“”“”

The toughest thing about dealing with PTSD is admitting you have a problem. And thanks to Headstrong, once I did,

I’ve been provided with exactly what they promised - the cost, bureaucracy and stigma free treatment I needed...
