Please join us for a very special evening on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the Portland Art Museum to celebrate Meals on Wheels People’s 50th Anniversary. This one-time event will provide an opportunity for friends of Meals on Wheels People to gather to reminisce about momentous occasions from the past 50 years and to help support the efforts of the organization for the next 50 years.

Meals on Wheels People has shown its commitment to enriching the lives of seniors by assisting them in maintaining independence, providing nutritious food, and the important social support they need to thrive. 45% of our homebound clients live below the poverty level. For many of those that we serve, the meal we provide them is their only food of the day and the Meals on Wheels People volunteer is the only person they see that day.

All proceeds from this event will be allocated to the Sustainability Fund which will support Meals on Wheels People’s mission for the next decade. As the generation of Baby Boomers hits age 65, it is projected that Oregon’s older population will increase nearly 100% by 2030, and 138% by 2050. Washington State’s senior population is projected to climb at a similar rate. The elderly population is living longer, but is also running out of money sooner. Current budgetary forecasts show that, even with successful growth of fundraising activities, our organization will be challenged to achieve the funding necessary to provide meals to the growing senior population and keep pace with the cost of inflation.

Together, we can change lives one meal at a time. Thank you for ensuring that Meals on Wheels People can continue to achieve our vision well into the future! We hope that you will consider joining our efforts to support this event.
