Subsurface hydrologic system is porous in nature. The understanding of fluids flow, heat and solute transport and poro-mechanics are important for sustainable recovery of various resources: fresh water, oil&gas, geothermal energy, minerals from subsurface reservoirs and using it as safe repository for, nuclear wastes and CO2.

THEME OF THE COURSE

The goal of this course is teaching the fundamental physics of flow and transport in porous media, and familiarizing with governing equations. The presence of multiple time and space scales, and the strong nonlinearities will be introduced. The evolution of reservoirs during recovery for resources and storage will be discussed. Open source or commercial codes will be discussed.
